Chapter 360

Hans stood there, puzzled. He had no idea what had just happened downstairs. Freya was sitting on the couch, tucking away the ointment she had been applying. In no time, Neil had returned from his grocery run.

As Neil walked in with two heavy bags, Freya said, โ€œJust leave the stuff in the kitchen; Iโ€™ll start cooking now.โ€

โ€œAre you sure you can handle the knife with your hand like that?โ€

Neil spoke up, โ€œFrom a doctorโ€™s perspective, Iโ€™d really suggest you get someone else to chop the veggies. What if your hand slips and you cut yourself?โ€

Freya hadnโ€™t considered this before Neil mentioned it, and suddenly realized she indeed needed someone to help her chop the vegetables. So, naturally, her gaze fell on Neil.

When Neil saw Freya looking his way, he quickly said, โ€œMy knife skills are pretty trash compared to Prestonโ€™s. Iโ€™ll get him to come down and give you a hand.โ€

Saying this, Neil quickly made his way upstairs, eager to avoid kitchen duty at all costs. Upstairs, Neil knocked on Prestonโ€™s door. After knocking for what felt like an eternity without a response, he just called out, โ€œPreston, get down here! Ms. Dawson needs help with chopping!โ€

After saying that, Neil didnโ€™t forget to whisper at the door, โ€œThis is your chance to shine! Iโ€™ve set this up for you, so hurry up and open the door!โ€

Hans came out of the opposite room, seeing Neil hovering at the door, and asked, โ€œDr. Anderson, what are you up to?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m trying to get yourโ€ฆ brotherโ€ฆ out,โ€ Neil explained. โ€œIโ€™ve finally found a perfect opportunity for him to showcase his charm to Freya. Her hand is injured, and she canโ€™t hold a knife properly. Prestonโ€™s knife skills are exceptional, so heโ€™s the perfect man for the jobโ€ฆโ€

Before Neil could finish, a sharp noise from downstairs interrupted him. The sound of a knife hitting the floor was unmistakably loud. Preston almost instantly opened his door and rushed downstairs.

Neil realized what might have happened and muttered, โ€œOh no!โ€ They all hurried down. They found Freya bending over to pick up the knife she had dropped.

As she looked up at the group rushing down, still bent over, she said, โ€œI just didnโ€™t grip it properlyโ€ฆโ€

Silence fell. Neil was speechless, having thought she had actually hurt herself! Preston stepped forward, picked up the knife, and moved to the chopping board. Seeing the vegetables Freya had already washed and the recipe lying beside them, he didnโ€™t utter a single word before starting to process the ingredients.

Freya had always cooked alone, never expecting to be flustered with help. Yet, to her surprise, Preston was systematic and organized, needing only a glance at the recipe to understand Freyaโ€™s cooking sequence.

Neil watched the two from outside the kitchen, smiling like a proud matchmaker. To him, they were the perfect couple, even if a bit of scheming was involved.

Hans brought the apron in, but Freyaโ€™s hands were busy, so Preston naturally took the apron and tied it around Freya for her.
