Leland’s face turned ashen when he heard those words. “Mom! What are they talking about? Debt? Ninety million what?”

Johanna had hoped to keep her financial troubles from her son, but now that their creditors had shown up at their doorstep, she had no choice but to bite the bullet. “Son, please, get the money I saved for your future wedding!”

“Mom! What are you talking about? That’s my money! Didn’t you say that money was for me to buy a house when I get married? How can you just take it away?”

Leland was visibly upset, but seeing his confusion, Johanna slapped him across the face, saying, “What’s more important, money or your life? Listen to me and get that money now!”

Ever since Johanna had married into the Dawson family, she had been saving money for Leland every year, amassing over thirty million in over a decade. Though it wasn’t enough to clear all their debts, using the thirty million could buy them some time.

Leland, realizing how serious the situation was as he faced the threatening group, reluctantly went upstairs to get his bank card.

The leader of the creditors glanced at Leland’s bank card and sneered, “So you still have money, huh? Playing poor with us! Listen, lady, you owe us another forty million! If you can’t pay up, I’m going to make sure your son won’t be able to walk again!”

“I’ve already given you thirty million! That’s over sixty million in total! I really don’t have any more money! Please, just give me three more days, I swear I’ll gather the money to pay off the remaining forty million!”

Johanna pleaded earnestly; having already sold almost everything she owned, she was virtually penniless. Now, even the money she had saved for her son’s future was gone.

“We’ve already given you extension after extension. You want three more days? Then your debt will increase to fifty million!”

As the threats grew worse, Leland was about to throw a punch but was quickly subdued when someone hit him in the back with a baton. The attack left Leland crumpled on the floor, unable to get up.

“You think you can stand up to me?” the leader mocked mercilessly as Leland lay on the ground.

Seeing her son in pain, Johanna panicked. “I—I have another five million! And some family heirlooms, even the deed to one of the Dawson family’s houses. It should all add up to forty million! I’ll give it all to you now!”

Desperately, Johanna called Freya. At that moment, Freya was seated in the Dawson family’s office. Johanna’s call came through, and Freya answered leisurely, hearing Johanna’s frantic voice. “Freya, didn’t your dad leave us an inheritance? I remember there being five million and a bedroom, right? I want to sell the house and get the money. Can you transfer it to me now?”

“Johanna, this is so sudden. What happened?”

Johanna dared not reveal her dealings with loan sharks to Freya. The Dawson family had a strict policy against such dealings. If the word got out, Johanna was afraid she would lose her dignity and possibly get kicked out of the family by Freya.

Knowing Johanna wouldn’t disclose her dealings with loan sharks, Freya smiled slightly and said, “I’ll send the contract to your phone right now. Once you sign, it will take effect immediately, and I’ll have our finance team transfer the funds to you. But this also means you and your son will renounce any claim to my father’s estate.”

Faced with the dire situation, Johanna didn’t hesitate. “Okay! I’ll sign it! Sending it now!”

Soon after, Johanna received the contract from Freya on her phone.
