The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 906-910
Chapter 906
Greyson had been watching Matilda since entering the room. He found her as beautiful and captivating as ever, defying her fifty years. This reinforced his desire to pursue her. However, he was shocked to see her arrive with Jacob Wilson, the man who had wronged him years ago.
He angrily confronted Jacob: "Jacob Wilson, why are you here with Matilda? What you did to her, we all know. If it weren't for you, she wouldn't have lived in the US for so many years. You should be ashamed!"
Jacob, equally angry, retorted, "Greyson, enough. Anyone with eyes knows what happened. You can't blame me!" He added, "Do you think my life has been easy these past twenty years? I've regretted and felt ashamed more than anyone."
Greyson scoffed, "Ashamed? Then leave. You shouldn't be here."
Matilda intervened, "Let's not dredge up the past. I'm too old for this gossip. We're all here by my invitation, so let's keep it civil." She surveyed the room, adding, "There must be no unpleasantness."
Jacob sneered, "Did you hear that, Greyson? Even Matilda says so. What right do you have to make me leave?" He patted his forehead. "Oh, I forgot to mention, I picked Matilda up from her hotel this morning and we visited our alma mater. We reminisced and decided to come here. Any objections?"
Greyson felt uneasy. His feelings for Matilda were unrequited, unlike Jacob and Matilda's long-standing relationship. They had been a prominent couple in college. Their reunion at their alma mater seemedintimate. His depression grew as he struggled to respond.
Just then, Paul entered, announcing, "Mom, I've spoken with Oscar, the Moore family's steward. He'll take care of everything. You can relax and enjoy the reunion."
Everyone gasped upon seeing Paul. A woman exclaimed, "Matilda, is that your son? He's handsome!"
Matilda nodded. "This is my son, Paul Smith."
Another person added, "He's mixed-race. From your American husband?"
Matilda smiled, "Who else could he be from?" Everyone laughed.
Greyson inquired, "Matilda, does Paul have a Chinese name?"
Matilda nodded. "Of course, it's my surname."
Everyone eagerly asked for his name, but Matilda interrupted, "This is a reunion, not about my son. Let him go. Let's reminisce amongst ourselves."
Chapter 907
Paul, seeing his mother's wish, said, "Uncles and aunts, enjoy yourselves. I'll leave now."
Jacob quickly interjected, "Paul, where are you going? Stay for lunch!" He wanted to show his familiarity with Paul to suggest a prior relationship with Matilda, discouraging others interested in her.
The guests noticed their familiarity. Why was Jacob so close to Paul?
Paul explained, "I have a business appointment. Mr. Wade is coming to my company this afternoon to do feng shui."
Jacob nodded, "My son-in-law is skilled at feng shui. He'll do it for free. Don't forget yesterday's drinks!" He offered to call Charlie Wade to confirm.
Greyson was confused. Had Paul, Jacob, and Jacob's son-in-law been drinking together? Matilda had only just arrived yesterday! This preferential treatment bothered him. Did Matilda still have feelings for Jacob?
Paul said, "Uncle Wilson, no need to be so polite."
Matilda added, "Jacob, let's not interfere with the children's business."
Jacob, seeing Greyson's distress, ceased his efforts. "Okay, go ahead, Paul. Your mother's here to keep me company."
Greyson felt Jacob was acting like Paul's stepfather. A fire ignited within him. Jacob had taken Matilda twenty years ago, and Greyson wouldn't let him ruin his chances now. He loudly asked about Jacob's wife, Elaine Ma, insinuating infidelity.
An old classmate answered, "Elaine Ma!"
Greyson pressed, "Jacob, you and Elaine Ma are close, right? Why isn't she here?"
Chapter 908
Jacob's face changed. "Greyson, what are you talking about? Elaine Ma isn't in our class!"
Greyson warned, "Don't mess around with other women. Elaine Ma won't forgive you."
Jacob exploded. "Greyson, I haven't done anything wrong! Don't think your money gives you the right to insult me!"
Matilda intervened, angry. "Enough! This is a reunion, not a brawl! If you continue, I'm leaving!"
Jacob protested, "Matilda, it's Greyson stirring things up!"
Greyson, a successful Hong Kong businessman, was insulted being called an "old bastard." He slammed the table, "Who are you calling an old bastard, Jacob Wilson?!"
Jacob retorted, "You!"
Greyson threatened, "Don't think being an old classmate protects you. You annoy me, I'll make you regret it!"
Jacob felt guilty. Compared to Greyson's wealth, he was nothing. Paul quickly intervened, "Uncles, please give my mother some face. Don't quarrel."
Jacob seized the opportunity, "Paul, I'll give you face and won't argue further."
Greyson retorted, "You insult me and then say you'll not argue? Do you believe I'll punch you?"
Matilda's face hardened, "Greyson, what do you want? If you continue, I'll ask you to leave."
Chapter 909
A 60-year-old man entered, greeting Paul. "Mr. Paul, dinner is ready."
Paul was surprised. "Oscar? Why are you here?"
The revelation of Oscar, the Moore family's steward, stunned everyone.
Greyson immediately changed his demeanor. He knew the Moore family's immense power, even exceeding his own wealth.
Paul was flattered. Oscar explained, "The Moore family and your father's law firm have a long history of cooperation. We've had legal issues in the past that your father helped solve. Lord Moore had a great relationship with him. To the Moore family, you are like a son. We wouldn't dare neglect you."
Paul thanked him and promised to visit Lord Moore soon. Oscar said, "I won't bother you further. Dinner is ready." Paul asked Oscar to leave with him.
Greyson attempted to ingratiate himself, introducing his company, but Oscar was dismissive, stating the Moore family's high standards for partners, implying his company was insignificant. Greyson was humiliated, having not only failed to gain favor, but also lost face before his classmates.
Chapter 910
Paul said goodbye. Jacob wished him well. Oscar was surprised to see Jacob and acknowledged his status as Charlie Wade's father-in-law, citing Charlie's great kindness to the Moore family.
Jacob was astonished by Charlie's influence. Paul, equally shocked, wondered about Charlie’s connection to the Moore family, anticipating learning more during Charlie's upcoming feng shui consultation at Paul's company.
Oscar addressed Jacob respectfully, offering his service. Jacob's classmates were awestruck. Greyson was flabbergasted by Oscar’s deference towards Jacob, a man he considered insignificant. He questioned a classmate about Jacob’s son-in-law, Charlie Wade.
