Charlie Wade slowly rose as everyone gasped in disbelief. The entire banquet hall instantly focused on him.
"Charlie Wade, what are you doing! Sit down!" Elaine Ma shrieked in horror. He was in the presence of powerful employers! None of them would dare stand at a moment like this, yet he was trying to steal the spotlight!
Gerald and Kevin exchanged glances and whispered, "Damn, is he actually the chairman of Emgrand Group?"
They immediately shook their heads. If he were the chairman, why would his mother-in-law be scolding him?
"Loser, what do you think you're doing? Sit down!" Harold shouted angrily from the stage.
Charlie Wade glared coldly. He then ignored the curious stares and left the hall to find Claire Wilson.
Doris took the stage and grabbed the microphone. As everyone stared blankly, she announced, "Hello, I'm Doris Young. Mr. Wade spoke with our chairman outside and delivered a message."
Hearing that Charlie Wade wasn't the chairman, everyone sighed in relief.
Kevin muttered spitefully, "It was a chance encounter. How immoral to curry favor with his assistant! He's hopeless."
Gerald shrugged and smiled. "That's just not done."
Meanwhile, on stage, Doris glared at Lady Wilson.
"The chairman has instructed me to inform youthat Emgrand Group is terminating its cooperation with Wilson Group, effective immediately. The agreement is void!"
"What!"
A yell echoed through the hall. No one expected this. Shock and confusion rippled through the crowd.
Lady Wilson's face drained of color. She rushed towards Doris, pleading, "Miss Young, what do you mean? Why this sudden decision? Did we do something wrong?" She had invited esteemed guests hoping to elevate the Wilson family's standing. This news would be disastrous!
Doris stated firmly, "This cooperation was based on our chairman's respect for Miss Claire Wilson. You arbitrarily appointed an unqualified individual to manage the project. We cannot accept such a ludicrous arrangement!"
Doris put down the microphone and left. Lady Wilson slumped onto the stage, her face ashen. If she'd known this would happen, she wouldn't have replaced Claire with Harold as project manager, not even under duress.
He approached his grandmother and asked gravely, "Granny, the project manager's replacement has been announced; you won't regret this decision, will you?"
Lady Wilson struggled to her feet. She slapped him and scolded furiously, "You bastard! You still think about your position? Come with me! We need to find Claire Wilson now!"
