Chapter 966
The four Heavenly Kings of Aurouss Hill were prominent figures in their respective towns, Caesar Hilton being the most renowned. Jeff never imagined he'd rear-end Caesar's Phaeton while trying to avoid a Porsche Cayenne. He instantly regretted his actions, wishing he'd hit the Porsche instead. He muttered, "If I'd known, I wouldn't have raced Charlie Wade in any car!"
He blamed Charlie Wade for the incident, claiming his surprisingly powerful, modified BMW 520 was to blame. He believed his reckless driving stemmed from a desire to prove himself. Consumed by anger, Jeff intensely resented Charlie Wade.
Caesar, observing Jeff's terror, coldly demanded, "Show me your driver's license, registration, and ID card!"
Jeff, obeying without question, retrieved the documents from his car and handed them to Caesar respectfully. After reviewing them, Caesar pocketed the documents and said coldly, "Jeff? I've spent years navigating this world. I really don't want to make a fuss over this, but this Phaeton is less than a month old. Even if you fix it, it won't be new again."
Caesar continued sternly, "My solution is simple: the Phaeton is yours. Buy me a new one with the same specifications, and we'll call it even. Consider yourself lucky; I'm in a good mood. Otherwise, I'd have broken your leg!"
Jeff, stunned by the proposition, couldn't comprehend Caesar's offer. Caesar, with a grim expression, reiterated, "The car is yours. Replace it with an identical model, and I'll drop the matter. Otherwise…" he trailed off, adding menacingly, "…I will break your leg."
Jeff collapsed to his knees, overwhelmed by the prospect of replacing a two-million-dollar car. He couldn't afford it. Even selling both damaged cars wouldn't cover the costs. He'd bought his Mercedes-Benz with a loan, paying over $10,000 monthly for three years. His life savings were in the down payment; his salary barely covered his expenses. He despaired, crying, "Brother Caesar, I'm to blame! But I have no money!"
Caesar responded, "I don't care. Satisfy my compensation demands. No money? Figure it out. I'll give you a week. If I don't see a new Phaeton, I will have you 'taken care of.'" He added, "The car is yours. One week. Run, and I'll kill you!"
Chapter 967
Jeff trembled, paralyzed with fear. Caesar, dismissing further conversation, retrieved his belongings, tossed the keys to Jeff, and said, “This car has a spare key. I only want what's rightfully mine. In this world, we operate on two words: fairness. Fail to adhere to that, and you will face consequences."
He hailed a cab and departed, leaving Jeff's friends speechless. They marveled at Caesar's decisive, almost theatrical, display of power. Jeff, however, remained on his knees, weeping uncontrollably. He couldn't fathom how to acquire the money for a new Phaeton.
His friends, concerned, inquired, "Brother Jeff, what do we do now?"
Jeff, overwhelmed, cried out, "I don't know! I hit a Phaeton, a car that looks like a Passat, worth over two million dollars!"
Meanwhile, the orphanage's WeChat group exploded with messages expressing concern for Jeff. Charlie Wade, however, suspected foul play. He knew Jeff, unwilling to donate his Mercedes-Benz, staged the accident to avoid his obligation. The agreement stipulated that whoever arrived last lost, regardless of circumstances. However, given the accident, Wade knew pressing the matter wouldn't be wise.
In the BMW, Mrs. Lewis expressed worry, urging Charlie to contact Jeff. Lisa, however, believed Jeff deliberately rear-ended the car.
Chapter 968
Lisa called Jeff's friend in the passenger seat. Before the friend could fully explain, Jeff grabbed the phone, stating to Lisa, "I'm fine. I rear-ended a Passat; we're negotiating. Don't worry."
Lisa replied, “We’ll wait at the hotel entrance.”
Jeff quickly added, "Tell Charlie Wade I'm sorry; I'll apologize later."
Jeff's friend then asked, "Brother Jeff, are you still going to dinner?"
"Of course!" Jeff exclaimed. "I'll even treat Mrs. Lewis. I need to get more money."
He planned to inflate the dinner bill to recoup some of his losses.
Jeff then instructed his friends, "Don't tell anyone about the accident," and used the Phaeton, leaving the damaged Mercedes-Benz behind. His friends were awestruck by the luxury of the Phaeton. Jeff, however, felt more miserable than ever.
Jeff arrived at the Hyatt Hotel, parking the Phaeton discreetly before joining his friends.
Chapter 969
Upon seeing Jeff, everyone inquired about the accident. Jeff, playing it cool, casually said, "It's just a fender bender; insurance will cover it."
Charlie Wade questioned him, "Jeff, the race was only a few kilometers long. How did you manage to rear-end another car?"
Jeff retorted, "I wasn't afraid of you! If I hadn't, I would have won!"
Lisa countered, "You were far behind! You only lost because you rear-ended the other car!"
Jeff brushed this off, blaming his loss on forgetting to put the car in sport mode.
He quickly changed the subject, saying, "Let's go; I've reserved a table."
Charlie Wade didn't press further, entering the Hyatt Hotel.
Jeff pretended to be superior, boasting about his high-end surroundings to Charlie, who remained unfazed. This further fueled Jeff's resentment.
Jeff decided to humiliate Charlie Wade while impressing his friends, all in hopes of obtaining their help to offset his Phaeton debt.
Chapter 970
Mrs. Lewis arrived, and everyone sat down. She asked about their lives. They shared their stories, many revealing their struggles as ordinary people.
Someone mentioned Jeff's position as director of a listed group. Jeff boasted about his high salary and upcoming million-dollar bonus from a White Group project.
Charlie Wade noted that White Group was owned by Mr. Zeke White, finding it peculiar.
Jeff then taunted Charlie Wade about being a stay-at-home son-in-law and eating soft food.
Charlie Wade responded truthfully, stating that he enjoyed his life. This angered Jeff, who continued to mock him.
Jeff proposed that Charlie work as his assistant.
