The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 1036-1040 (Revised)
Chapter 1036
The Webb family are absolute accomplices. Charlie Wade knew Donald would be extremely uncomfortable after this video's release. Wouldn't he want to confront himself? Isn't he secretly seeking his enemy, preparing a united attack?
"I've waited long enough," Charlie Wade said impatiently to Cameron Isaac. "Put all these thugs into that Iveco and weld their hands to the vehicle's body!"
Cameron Isaac gave the order, and numerous men in black swarmed forward. Pairs of men seized each thug and shoved them into the modified Iveco. The children, already asleep in a helicopter, remained undisturbed. The men in black showed no mercy to the thugs' cries and howls. The electric welding machine sputtered, and steel bars were welded to the thugs' wrists, fusing them to the vehicle. The intense heat caused more screams. The scene resembled hell.
Charlie Wade turned to Ron's family. "Your family's underhanded, disgusting dealings are beyond redemption. You're worse than animals! You deserve everyone's scorn! I'm acting for justice; your family will die today!"
Ignoring their pleas, he ordered the men in black to weld the Richie family to the Iveco with the others. Only Jeff remained, terrified. His eyes were vacant, his body trembled, and he muttered, "Charlie Wade, we grew up together! Forgive me! I'm not a monster! Please, spare my life"
Charlie Wade noticed Jeff was incontinent. His face was grim. "Jeff, you should know your limits. Touching a high-voltage line kills you. Child trafficking is an untouchable line, especially for orphans like us. You didn't understand; what was the point of your life?"
Jeff tore at his hair. Bloodshot eyes fixed on Charlie Wade, he said, "Before I die, one question. Can you grant my wish?"
Charlie Wade nodded. "For old times' sake, I'll answer, but that's your final answer."
Jeff shuddered. "Charlie Wade… who are you? How do you have such power?"
Charlie Wade smiled. He expected this question. He squatted, looked Jeff in the eyes, and said, "Jeff, even my wife doesn't know this. This is your final answer; listen carefully."
Jeff nodded eagerly. "I'll listen. So I can seek revenge in my next life."
Charlie Wade smiled coldly. "I'm from the Eastcliff Wade family… the master."
Chapter 1037
"What?!"
For Jeff, this was the most shocking revelation of his twenty-plus years. He stared, muttering, "Impossible! I've known you since childhood! You're an orphan! Mrs. Lewis took you in when you were eight. You're like me—no family. How can you be a Wade family master?"
Charlie Wade smiled. "I know it's unbelievable, but it's true. Otherwise, how could I mobilize so many people? Look at the helicopters, the armed men—without my status, you'd have succeeded."
"But" Jeff sputtered. "Why did you grow up in an orphanage? Why didn't they take you? Why would an Eastcliff master live with us?"
Charlie Wade explained, "They didn't know my whereabouts. My father worked hard to hide my identity. Though they searched, they never expected an orphanage."
"They found you?" Jeff asked. "When? Why?"
Charlie Wade replied, "Recently. Before, I was like you, maybe worse. I was a penniless live-in son-in-law. I washed clothes, cooked, and saw no hope. Unlike you, you were at least a director."
"Knowing your identity," Jeff exclaimed, "why didn't you find them? You wouldn't have suffered!"
Charlie Wade smiled. "That's the difference. I came from privilege but chose humility; you came from humble beginnings, yet rejected humility. Had you been humble, you wouldn't have committed these crimes."
"I don't understand!" Jeff cried. "Is it because you saw money as a child?"
"Perhaps," Charlie Wade said softly. "I had riches as a child, a life unimaginable to you, but I wasn't happy. Neither were my parents."
Jeff was incredulous. "You chose poverty? You miss that life, don't you?"
Charlie Wade sighed. "Jeff, you take money too seriously. There are things money can't buy—ideals, love, principles, conscience. If you misplace your priorities, you'll do wrong. Some wrongs are fixable, some aren't."
Jeff finally grasped the vast chasm between them. The child he’d known was the Eastcliff Wade family master! He was a peasant compared to a phoenix, a minnow compared to a dragon. He'd lost this life, and the next. He was as insignificant to Charlie Wade as an ant.
Chapter 1038
The most agonizing thing is realizing you'll never surpass your enemy. Jeff was ashamed.
Tears streaming, he choked, "Charlie Wade, I admit it. I'm tired of life, of myself. Kill me"
Charlie Wade nodded. "Jeff, your crime is the least severe among those dying today, but it's still a capital offense. I hope for a better life next time."
Jeff smiled miserably. "After your story, I feel cursed. In another life, I'll still be an orphan, a nobody"
Charlie Wade nodded. "Then be a good person next time."
Jeff nodded solemnly. "I hate myself. I hope to be good."
He calmed down, no longer incontinent. He stood before Charlie Wade. "Charlie Wade, let me go. Send those children back safely. Tell Mrs. Lewis I'm sorry. I regret it. I'll atone with my life."
Charlie Wade nodded. "I'll grant you a quick death." He instructed Cameron Isaac, "Weld everyone in the Iveco and throw it in the river."
"Yes, master!"
The helicopter took off. The thugs and Ron's family cried out in despair, welded to the vehicle, unable to escape. The helicopter dropped the Iveco into the river.
Charlie Wade turned to Jeff. "I promised a painless death."
Jeff smiled miserably and nodded. "Thank you, Charlie Wade."
Charlie Wade told a man in black, "Take him to the bridge and give him a simple death."
Before the man acted, Jeff stumbled towards the bridge. He climbed onto the railing. "Charlie Wade, a quick death!"
Charlie Wade nodded. The man in black shot Jeff in the head. Jeff fell into the river.
Chapter 1039
Jeff's death saddened Charlie Wade, not from sympathy, but because a man had become his own worst enemy. Jeff was young, had potential. He might have become CEO and reached the peak of life, but life has inescapable pitfalls.
Addressing Cameron Isaac, Charlie Wade said, "Take the children to the hospital. Check them, then notify the welfare institution."
Cameron Isaac asked, "Master, what about the remaining beggars?"
Charlie Wade sighed. "You can't kill them all. I hope the leaders' deaths serve as a warning." He added, "Make everyone here keep quiet."
"Yes, Master!"
Charlie Wade boarded the helicopter and, at a low altitude with a good signal, uploaded the edited video to Facebook, altering his voice to be unrecognizable. The graphic video quickly went viral.
The loss of ten children had already captured national attention, but this video surpassed all other news. The entire country watched the shocking video. The bad guys were punished, the children rescued. The public clamored to know who was responsible. But Charlie Wade left no trace.
Donald's involvement with the gang was revealed. The Webb family faced widespread online condemnation, and their reputation was ruined.
The beggar gang imploded. They hadn't expected their leaders' demise, causing mid-level leaders to flee.
Chapter 1040
Donald and Xenia were comforting Kian. Sean, carrying dinner for his grandfather, found him on the floor, convulsing, foaming at the mouth, his face pale. He appeared to have suffered a stroke. He clutched his phone, a video playing. It showed his uncle murdering his aunt.
Sean dropped the phone in shock. By the time he got help, the old man was dead. Donald and Xenia arrived, frantic.
The doctor stated the old man had been severely agitated, similar to last time.
Sean, having seen the viral video, approached his parents, pale and trembling. "Dad, Mom, Uncle killed Aunt, then he was killed. Uncle and the beggar gang's leaders… a dozen were welded to an Iveco and thrown in the river!"
"What?!"
They couldn't believe it. Who had the audacity to do this? And to the powerful beggar gang?
Xenia thought Sean had a fever.
Sean insisted, "It's on the internet! Before he died, Uncle admitted the Webb family were his backers. The whole internet is condemning us!"
Donald snatched the phone. He knew his brother-in-law's actions; the Webb family's reputation was ruined.
Xenia's heart pounded. She couldn't believe her brother and sister-in-law were dead.
