Chapter 1616
Even Lord Wade was stunned. Stephen Thompson said coldly, “I never considered bringing Master Charlie Wade back. Objectively, today's Master Charlie Wade is no less powerful than Bruce Wade was in Eastcliff! As for the marriage proposal, it came from Master Wade, not me!”
“Furthermore, there’s no need for alarm. Master Charlie Wade has no intention of returning. Knowing him as I do, he wouldn’t come back even if I begged him, let alone abandon his wife for the Banks family.”
Relief washed over the room. Won’t come back? Good riddance! Lord Wade’s eyes narrowed.
After a moment's thought, he said seriously, “Even if Charlie Wade returned, I doubt he could successfully marry Zara Banks.”
“Impossible!” Corran Wade exclaimed. “The Banks family are incredibly discerning. Even Jon’s remarkable status might not suffice. Charlie is a commoner who’s been away for years. Why would the Banks family consider him?!”
Lord Wade gave Corran a cold, knowing look. Corran felt exposed.
Lord Wade understood: Corran belittled Charlie out of fear—fear that Charlie would return and marry into the Banks family. His belittling was a smokescreen for his panic.
Others agreed, citing Charlie’s humble upbringing as incompatible with Miss Banks.
Myles sneered, “Dad, Charlie, though my uncle’s son, has been a nobody for years. How can a nobody compare to a celestial being like Zara?”
Seeing the objections, Lord Wade snorted. “Do you know Zara’s mother, the Banks family’s eldest daughter-in-law, desperately pursued Bruce? She chased him for years. If he’d agreed, she would have been the second Mrs. Wade. She still mourns at Bruce’s grave annually. Do you understand that kind of devotion?”
The room erupted. Corran remembered: Bruce had been Eastcliff’s most prominent figure, desired by countless women, including Zara’s mother. Many men envied him, including his own brother. If Zara’s mother loved Bruce so deeply, perhaps Charlie and Zara’s marriage was possible
Chapter 1617
The Wade family debated how to dissuade Lord Wade.
He slammed the table. “If Charlie Wade agreed, the chances of success are very high!”
Cynthia Wade protested, “Dad, Charlie is married! Would the Banks family marry their precious granddaughter to a married man? Even if he were divorced, it would be a second marriage!”
Lord Wade shrugged. “With enough allure, what about a third marriage? Even if he weren't divorced, countless Eastcliff women would have gladly accepted Bruce as a lover. That was Bruce’s charm!”
Corran countered, “Dad! Times have changed! Young people are independent; they won't settle!”
Lord Wade retorted, “Will they or won't they? It’s not about our opinions, it’s about the facts! We won’t know unless we try!”
He turned to Stephen Thompson. “Stephen, go to Aurouss Hill immediately and tell Charlie about this.”
Stephen Thompson worried, “Master, I doubt Master Charlie Wade will agree.”
Lord Wade frowned, gesturing to the other heirs. “They don’t want Charlie back; don’t you?”
Thompson clarified, “Master, you misunderstand. I long for Young Master Wade’s return. However, based on my understanding of Master Charlie Wade, he won’t agree to marry into the Banks family. He’s devoted to his wife. And don't forget his engagement to Miss Sun—a binding contract. Master Charlie Wade is a man of his word. He wouldn't consider Zara over Miss Sun.”
A collective gasp. They’d forgotten his long-standing engagement to Stefanie Sun, the star.
Lord Wade’s eyes lit up. “I’m obtuse! The opportunity Orion spoke of lies with Charlie Wade!”
Lord Wade sighed. “The Sun family is less powerful than the Banks family, but less means more! Orrin owns 25.5% of Sun Group shares, plus other assets, potentially reaching trillions. He has only one daughter; everything will go to her, and therefore, his son-in-law!”
Envy filled the room. Charlie had a secret engagement all these years?!
Lord Wade instructed Stephen, “Stephen, your task is to ensure Charlie divorces his Aurouss Hill wife and returns to the family within six months.”
Stephen Thompson agreed. The other Wade family members were furious. If Charlie returned, he could become the Sun and potentially the Banks son-in-law, a powerful figure within the Wade family.
Chapter 1618
This was unacceptable to the other cousins. They frantically searched for countermeasures.
Lord Wade felt a sense of relief, finally understanding Orion’s prophecy. He laughed and declared the meeting adjourned. Everyone’s expressions were strained, but none dared to object, each harboring resentment.
Stephen Thompson received a call from Charlie Wade. He answered respectfully.
Charlie asked, “Steward Thompson, are you available?”
“Yes, Master. I'm in my office. It's secure and confidential.”
Charlie said, “I’m in Eastcliff and would like to see you. Are you free?”
Stephen was surprised. “Master, you’re in Eastcliff? When did you arrive?”
Charlie replied, “Two days ago. I’m leaving tomorrow. Let’s meet before I go.”
Stephen suggested Sweetwater Teahouse in Hillcrest Guild Hall.
Charlie agreed.
Hillcrest Guild Hall was an old building, once used for exam-takers, now a teahouse. Stephen Thompson owned a teahouse there.
When Charlie arrived, accompanied by a masked woman, Stephen was stunned. He recognized Stefanie Sun. Overjoyed, he exclaimed, “Master and Miss Sun, how did you meet?”
Stefanie smiled, “Uncle Thompson, even disguised, I can't hide from you!”
Stephen replied, “Ms. Sun has an extraordinary aura; no mask could conceal it.” He then invited them to the back garden.
Chapter 1619
Sweetwater Teahouse had a front, middle, and back yard, the last being Stephen's private area. He dismissed the staff, and personally served tea.
Stephen couldn’t contain his excitement. “Master, I never expected you to be in Eastcliff with Miss Sun…” He believed the best outcome for Charlie was to divorce his current wife, return to Eastcliff, and marry Stefanie. He saw them as perfect together—a marriage contract, Orrin’s uprightness, and the Sun family’s power.
Charlie explained he’d come to see Orrin, who had been unwell.
Stephen was shocked. “Master, Chairman Sun’s recovery was miraculous! Was it your doing?”
Charlie smiled and confirmed he’d given Orrin medicine.
Stephen was awestruck. “Master, your medicine is extraordinary! A miracle cure!”
Charlie offered Stephen a copy of the medicine.
Chapter 1620
Charlie knew offering the Rejuvenation Pill would increase Stephen's loyalty.
Stephen was stunned, overwhelmed with gratitude. “Master, with your words, I will face any danger without hesitation!”
He understood the pill’s significance. It was a miracle cure, potentially life-extending. The offer moved him deeply.
Charlie then asked Stephen about the details of his parents' death, particularly about the hidden figures behind it.
Stephen explained Charlie’s father had offended the Rothschild family and, by extension, the entire Eastcliff elite.
Charlie was confused. Why would his father offend them?
Stephen sighed. “Your father led the Wade family into international finance and trade, challenging the traditional, less lucrative methods of other families. He organized resistance against the Rothschild family’s financial exploitation of China, driving them out for ten years.” That's why the Eastcliff families resented him, not thanked him.
