The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 1626-1630
Chapter 1626
The sales associate frowned. "Sir, this bag costs 580,000."
Charlie Wade hummed. "No problem. I'll take it."
"Sir," the associate replied, "purchasing this bag requires allocation."
Charlie Wade was surprised. "Allocation? Can't I buy it directly?"
The associate smirked contemptuously. "Sir, is this your first time at Hermès? Have you never purchased anything from us before?"
Charlie Wade nodded. "No. Why? What's the issue?"
"Many Hermès bags aren't available for direct purchase," the associate explained. "You can freely choose and buy basic items under 300,000. But items over 300,000 are limited editions."
"This bag's retail price is 580,000, but it could resell for 700,000 to 800,000. To buy it, you need to be a senior member and make an appointment with the store manager, or purchase 500,000 worth of other items—not bestsellers."
Charlie Wade frowned. "So, I have to buy 500,000 worth of other things first?"
"Exactly," the associate said, laughing. "Hermès worldwide follows this rule. Or are you trying to cheat the store out of the bag for profit?"
Hermès' limited-edition handbags maintain incredibly high resale value. Many styles fetch more on the secondhand market than new, due to Hermès' strategic scarcity. Other brands are transactional; Hermès is not. The high resale value means that to purchase at retail, one must buy hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars worth of goods. This means acquiring a limited edition bag could cost over a million dollars. Hermès cleverly restricts allocation purchases to slower-selling items. These items—such as an 18k gold ring marked up from 1,000 to 50,000, 80,000, or even 100,000—are difficult to resell.
Charlie Wade, understanding the rules, didn't get angry. He said, "In that case, I can buy 500,000 worth of other items."
The associate's eyes lit up. She hadn't expected him to be so wealthy. Her demeanor changed instantly. "Sir, I'll show you our allocation-eligible items."
Charlie Wade nodded. "I saw a handbag—a common style—for around 160,000. Can that be used for allocation?"
"Yes," the associate replied immediately. "It's 158,888. You'll need another approximately 340,000."
Just as Charlie Wade was about to look at other items, a woman's voice came from the door: "Koichi, I want to see Hermès!" A man's voice followed: "Let's not. We're going to the gate." The woman pleaded, "We have half an hour before boarding! Just a quick look." The man sighed, "Fine, twenty minutes." "Koichi, you're the best!"
A young couple entered. Charlie Wade recognized the man: Koichi Tanaka, who had been with Nanako Ito.
Chapter 1627
Koichi Tanaka was engrossed in his stylish companion, and didn't notice Charlie Wade. Since they spoke Chinese, Charlie Wade assumed she was Chinese. She pointed to the limited-edition handbag Charlie Wade had purchased. "Koichi, I want this bag!"
Tanaka said awkwardly, "Dear, we're in Eastcliff to find a doctor for the young lady, not shopping. If you want something, wait until we return to Japan."
The woman insisted, "I want this one! It's fate! I might never find it again!"
Tanaka explained, "I have a crucial task. Bringing you here is already breaking rules. High-profile shopping would be impossible to explain!"
The woman countered, "I'm originally from Eastcliff. Tell your boss I'm visiting family. Say I bought this myself." She pleaded, "Koichi, I really like this bag. Please?"
Tanaka hesitated, then sighed, "Fine, but don't show it off, and don't say I bought it in Eastcliff."
The woman smiled and waved to the sales associate. "I'll take this bag!"
The associate apologized, "I'm sorry, miss. It's already sold." She gestured respectfully towards Charlie Wade.
Charlie Wade ignored them, selecting two 30,000 scarves and a 20,000 men's belt.
The woman exclaimed, "He hasn't even checked out! We can pay now!" She urged Tanaka, "Koichi, your card!"
Tanaka suggested, "He's already committed, let's choose another."
"No!" the woman insisted, "I want this one! I saw it first!" She pointed at Charlie Wade. "Koichi, bribe him. Let him give us the bag!"
Tanaka, unable to resist, offered Charlie Wade 100,000.
Charlie Wade waved him off.
The woman protested, "100,000 for nothing? He won't even negotiate!"
Charlie Wade continued shopping. "Bring me this 58,000 wallet."
The woman raged, "My boyfriend is a senior assistant to the Ito family! He's close to the head of the family. Offending him will have consequences!"
Chapter 1628
Charlie Wade scoffed. "A Japanese family trying to act tough on Chinese soil? Even Ito Takehiko himself would kneel and beg if he crossed me."
Tanaka, feeling some guilt for his girlfriend's rudeness, became angry. "You dare disrespect Mr. Ito?"
Charlie Wade smiled, "Tanaka? Long time no see."
Tanaka was shocked, remembering Charlie Wade's defeat of Yamamoto Kazuki. His legs went weak, and he knelt, approaching Charlie Wade respectfully. "Mr. Wade! I'm so sorry!"
Tanaka's fear was palpable. Yamamoto Kazuki, a national treasure-level master, had been crippled by Charlie Wade. He pulled his girlfriend down, yelling, "Apologize to Mr. Wade!"
The woman cried out, "Koichi, what are you doing?!" Tanaka slapped her, "Apologize!"
The woman, terrified, apologized to Charlie Wade.
Charlie Wade said coldly, "Remember, in China, keep a low profile. The saying goes, 'The raptors cannot cross the river.'"
Tanaka nodded frantically. "Mr. Wade, I was wrong. We'll be low-key."
Charlie Wade dismissed them with a wave of his hand, "Go."
Tanaka, relieved, thanked Charlie Wade profusely before hurrying away. Charlie Wade stopped him. "Wait."
Tanaka trembled. "Mr. Wade, what else?"
Charlie Wade asked coldly, "How is your young lady?"
Chapter 1629
"Miss Ito?" Tanaka's expression dimmed. "Mr. Wade, Miss Nanako was seriously injured in the battle with Miss Quinton. They saved her life, but she's not as strong. She's recuperating in Kyoto"
Charlie Wade felt a pang of concern for Nanako Ito, but maintained his composure. "Can she still compete?"
Tanaka sighed, "No. She's very weak. She could barely stand a few days ago, now she's mostly bedridden, sometimes using a wheelchair."
Charlie Wade imagined Nanako Ito in a wheelchair, his heart aching. "How's her mood?"
Tanaka shook his head. "She seems fine, happy, but I think she's depressed. She asked me if there are people we may never see again"
Charlie Wade sighed, "She shouldn't have participated in that competition."
Tanaka sighed, "The president and I tried to dissuade her, but she insisted." He continued, "We sought famous doctors in Japan, but none could treat her injuries. That's why we came to Eastcliff."
Charlie Wade hummed. "And?"
"No luck," Tanaka said dejectedly. "Mr. Ito offered a high fee, but the doctors refused."
Charlie Wade knew Nanako Ito's injuries were beyond the capabilities of current medicine. Perhaps only he could heal her. He remembered his upcoming trip to Japan and wondered if he'd see her.
He decided to visit her, to heal her injuries. He waved Tanaka away, "I won't pursue this. You can go."
Tanaka bowed profusely, thanking Charlie Wade before leaving.
Chapter 1630
Charlie Wade sighed, melancholically purchasing allocation items from Hermès. After reaching 500,000, he paid, carrying several Hermès boxes to the VIP lounge.
Loreen was already there. Seeing his Hermès purchases, she asked, "Did you buy a gift for Claire?"
Charlie Wade nodded, "I had to buy souvenirs for my wife."
Loreen said, "You're secretive. You know Stefanie, but never mentioned it."
Charlie Wade replied, "I wouldn't use others as bragging rights."
Loreen nodded. "True." She then asked, "Did you know Stefanie since childhood?"
Charlie Wade said, "No, I didn't want to tell anyone, but you saw us yesterday."
Loreen happily said, "I know a secret you didn't even know yourself! Our friendship is getting closer!"
Charlie Wade said, "It was a coincidence that you saw us."
Loreen snorted, "Regardless, I know one more secret than before! How many secrets do you have? You're mysterious."
Charlie Wade deflected, "That time in the hot springs? You saw my swimming trunks. You can't see the rest."
Loreen blushed, picturing his physique. She whispered shyly, "Why can't I see the rest"
Charlie Wade awkwardly replied, "We're friends, and you're my wife's best friend. I can't show you the rest."
Loreen pouted. "Why treat me like this? You let me show you when I was injured. Did you take advantage?"
Charlie Wade said, "That's different! I was saving you."
Loreen rolled her eyes. "Who knows? Maybe you save people and take advantage at the same time!" She added more seriously, "Actually, I don't mind you taking advantage. Even if you want to"
