The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 1636-1640
Chapter 1636
Charlie Wade nodded. "Twenty to thirty thousand."
Elaine Ma gasped. "Oh! My son-in-law is so generous! A scarf that expensive? Twenty to thirty thousand could buy a mink!"
She opened another gift box. "Oh! This is the classic Hermes women's belt! My son-in-law, I've wanted this for years but couldn't afford it. You made my dream come true!"
Jacob Wilson looked on, a little sour. "Good son-in-law, didn't you bring anything for Dad?"
Charlie Wade smiled. "Of course, Dad. I have several things for you." He handed Jacob two Hermes gift boxes.
Jacob slapped his thigh. "Oh, there really is! My good son-in-law!" He snatched the boxes and opened one, revealing a men's belt with a gold "H."
Jacob clapped his hands. "This is the same Hermes belt Tom Cruise wore! It was hugely popular!"
Charlie Wade nodded. "It's the standard for successful men now."
Jacob sighed. "Old Wilson is successful! Thompson First mansion, BMW 5-series, Hermes belt… next, a gold chain and gold watch! A true high-roller with three barbecues a day!"
Claire Wilson said helplessly, "Dad, who wears gold chains anymore? That's for young people."
Jacob chuckled. "I was just kidding." He winked at Charlie. "Good son-in-law, when can I get that gold watch? I've had my eye on a Rolex."
Charlie Wade thought, Matilda gave him a Rolex! Three or four hundred thousand dollars. He hid it, afraid Elaine would be jealous… Now he wants another one. He probably wants my approval to wear Matilda's gift.
He'll tell Elaine I bought it. Charlie thought, This old man is sly. Let's help him!
"Dad," Charlie said, "Don't worry. Rolex it is!"
Jacob beamed. "My good son-in-law, you understand me!" He grasped Charlie's hand.
Elaine Ma scowled. "Jacob, you shameless old thing! A Rolex? Don't bleed my son-in-law dry!" She quickly turned to Charlie. "Good son-in-law, I don't have a decent watch. How about one for me?"
Chapter 1637
Claire knew Jacob only wanted a Rolex as an excuse to wear Matilda’s. While feeling uncomfortable, she overlooked it, considering her parents' past. But Elaine's request surprised her.
"Mom," Claire said, "Rolexes are for men. You wouldn't look good in one. I'll get you a Tissot if you want a watch."
Elaine scoffed. "Don't insult me! Those are cheap! I want a Rolex!"
Charlie smoothly replied, "Mom, I bought a lot in Eastcliff. A gold watch for each of you would drastically lower our living standards. I know someone who sells perfect replicas. How about fakes for now?"
Elaine, softened by Charlie's generosity, agreed. "Oh, good son-in-law, I was just joking. Don't worry about me. Get Dad a fake first." She added, "But don't forget me if you make a lot of money from that feng shui job!"
Charlie nodded. "No problem." He winked at Jacob. "Dad, what about a replica Rolex? Most people can't tell the difference!"
Jacob readily agreed. He just wanted an excuse to wear Matilda's watch.
Charlie continued, "It's settled. I'll get one." He then presented Jacob with some high-quality tea from Stephen Thompson.
Charlie then gave Claire her remaining Hermes gifts.
Chapter 1638
Claire gratefully thanked Charlie, but cautioned him about overspending.
Elaine immediately displayed her Hermes gifts on social media, boasting to her friends. She felt triumphant, envisioning her future in luxury.
Jacob opened the tea leaves from Stephen Thompson, the aroma filling the room. He compared it to his WeChat purchase, finding a vast difference in quality and fragrance. He brewed the high-quality tea, the scent enchanting everyone.
Chapter 1639
Charlie sighed at Jacob's naiveté, reflecting on his humble position in the family. However, he admired Jacob's resilience. Meanwhile, next door, Hannah prepared lunch, feeling isolated and resentful of the Wilson family's newfound wealth and their cold treatment of her. She scrolled through Elaine's social media post, further fueling her discontent. She reflected on her difficult life and lack of support.
Chapter 1640
The Wilsons returned home, boasting about their financial success thanks to the Webb family's project. Hannah, overhearing their conversation, resented their lack of gratitude towards Donald and his role in their turnaround. A confrontation ensued between Hannah and Mrs. Wilson, revealing their strained relationship. Hannah stood her ground, threatening to involve Donald if mistreated. While a truce was called, Hannah remained resentful, anticipating Mrs. Wilson's continued cruelty.
