The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 1731-1735
Chapter 1731
Hearing that voice, Tenglin Quintongtian's liver and gallbladder felt as if they'd burst! This confirmed his worst fear: the Chinese man had been there the entire time, never leaving. He hadn't detected the man's breathing or heartbeat. How was that possible?! The man had even slapped his shoulder twice, proving proximity, yet Quintongtian hadn't heard a sound—not even footsteps!
He instinctively wanted to whirl around and throw his shuriken, but hesitated. He only had two left; four were already gone. What if these last two missed? His opponent was too close to allow retrieving more weapons. These two were his last chance. A rash move could be fatal.
He swallowed nervously, then said humbly, "Sir, there must be a misunderstanding. I'm not a ninja, just an enthusiast of shuriken."
Charlie Wade smiled playfully. "If you're not a ninja, what are you doing here?"
Quintongtian stammered, "I wasn't following you. I just finished dinner and came here to practice."
Charlie Wade sneered. "Do you think I believe that?"
"I I'm telling the truth!"
Charlie Wade scoffed. "You're with the Takahashi family, aren't you? I'll give you a chance. Tell me everything, and I might let you go."
Quintongtian knew denial was futile. "Sir, I'll tell you everything! The Takahashi family sent me to follow you from Tokyo"
"What's their plan?"
"Mr. Takahashi Machichi wants us to follow you, then wait for his instructions. He's negotiating with a major Chinese family and doesn't want to act until afterward."
"And your four ninjas?"
"We're all from the Tenglin family, a major ninjutsu family in Japan."
"Why work for the Takahashi family?"
"Post-war, ninjas and samurai have become less relevant. The underworld's rise, with their powerful weapons, has reduced our options. We have no other skills; we're not good at business, so we depend on powerful families for survival"
Quintongtian pleaded, "Sir, I've told you the truth. Please let me go."
Charlie Wade smiled. "I still have questions."
Quintongtian's mind raced. "Sir, may I turn around? I'm nervous facing you like this."
"Yes."
Quintongtian slowly turned, shuriken still in hand. His toes subtly moved—a seemingly insignificant detail, but Charlie Wade noticed it. His shoes, specialized ninja footwear, concealed daggers in the soles. A special mechanism, activated by an S-shaped movement of the sole's slider, would eject the blades. This was a common cold weapon, even in 19th-century China, often depicted in films, but the mechanism—a simple mechanical code—was rarely explained.
Chapter 1732
Though thermal weapons made this type of weapon obsolete, Japanese ninjas still used it. Charlie Wade saw Quintongtian was about to deploy the blade; his toes were eighty percent through the S-shape.
Quintongtian decided to attack. He'd use his shuriken to distract Charlie Wade, then deploy the daggers. The simultaneous attack from above, below, and sides, could be fatal, despite Takahashi Machichi's orders not to kill Charlie Wade. Self-preservation took priority.
"Sir, ask anything. I'll answer truthfully!"
Charlie Wade asked, "Are you four the strongest under Takahashi Zhenzhi?"
"Yes."
Charlie Wade frowned. "Your skills are pathetic! Throwing knives? In China, you'd be street performers. You're nothing special."
Humiliated, Quintongtian retorted, "Nonsense! My shuriken is deadly accurate! I can cut the wings off a fly at 100 meters!"
"Oh really?"
"Of course! I'll show you!"
"Let's see this performance."
Quintongtian, sensing his chance, attacked with his shuriken, and simultaneously activated the daggers in his shoes, kicking at Charlie Wade.
Chapter 1733
Charlie Wade, unimpressed, deflected the shuriken with two fingers using an invisible force. The shuriken missed him. Quintongtian's kick failed; Charlie Wade's grip was too strong.
Charlie Wade sneered. "Since you like using daggers, I'll grant your wish."
With a sickening snap, Charlie Wade broke Quintongtian's leg. Then, the ninja's own dagger, aimed at Charlie Wade, pierced his mouth, exiting through his neck.
As Quintongtian died from the poison, Charlie Wade asked, "How did I do it?"
Quintongtian, dying, could only nod. He didn't understand Charlie Wade's strength or his ability to control sound.
Charlie Wade smiled. "Do you know sound needs vibration to travel? Control the vibration, and you control the sound. Even the keenest ears won't hear it."
Quintongtian, eyes wide, could only make sounds.
Charlie Wade smiled. "The same principle applies to the shuriken. Chinese martial arts far surpasses Japanese ninjutsu."
Quintongtian's face turned black and purple as the cyanide took hold.
Charlie Wade felt no sympathy. This man carried numerous poisonous weapons; his death was fitting punishment.
A slight vibration came from Quintongtian's pocket, detected only by Charlie Wade's keen senses. It was a modified mobile phone, designed to minimize vibrations. A message from Teng Lin Zhengzhe read: "07."
Chapter 1734
Charlie Wade, reviewing previous messages, realized this was a coded communication. "07" was likely an inquiry about Quintongtian's status. He gently bent the phone to power it off, then pocketed it.
He called Cameron Isaac: "Isaac, get a refrigerated van to the park on the outskirts of the river. We're making a popsicle."
Isaac was shocked. "Master, were you attacked?"
"I'm fine. Just get the van, I'll send the address."
Meanwhile, in Nagoya, Teng Lin Zhengzhe was about to bug Charlie Wade's room. He'd texted Quintongtian to check his progress, but received no reply. His two subordinates were worried. Quintongtian never missed a communication.
Zhengzhe muttered, "Was Quintongtian discovered?"
His second subordinate disagreed, "No, brother! Quintongtian's concealment skills are unmatched. How could the Chinese find him?"
Zhengzhe insisted, "The lack of response is abnormal. We need to find him."
He sent another message, "10" (for urgent help), but still no reply. Their faces paled.
The third subordinate suggested searching.
Zhengzhe pointed out, "We don't know where to look. Even if we find him, it might be too late. We risk exposure."
"Then what?"
Zhengzhe said, "We can't wait. You two watch downstairs. I'll bug Wade's room. If he returns, alert me immediately."
The second subordinate argued, "What's the point of bugging the room? We need to find Quintongtian!"
Zhengzhe coldly replied, "If Quintongtian is in trouble, only Wade knows. Monitoring him is our only lead."
He sighed, "You must prepare for the worst that Quintongtian may be dead."
The other two were devastated. Finding him in Nagoya would be impossible.
They divided their tasks.
Chapter 1735
Teng Lin Zhengzhe's hope was that Quintongtian was merely engaged with Wade. The second subordinate tried calling Quintongtian; the phone was unreachable.
His cold sweat poured out. "Brother, Quintongtian's phone is unreachable"
Zhengzhe stood up, "Quintongtian's phone is always on. This is abnormal"
The third panicked, "Brother, has Quintongtian had an accident?"
The second agreed, "Something's wrong! Quintongtian would never act this way!"
He urged Zhengzhe, "Brother, we have to find him!"
Zhengzhe's expression was grim. "We don't know where to look. Finding him after an accident might mean finding a corpse. We risk exposure if we search."
The third asked, "Then what do we do?! We can't wait for death!"
Zhengzhe gritted his teeth. "We can't wait. You two watch downstairs. I'll bug Wade's room. If he returns, tell me immediately."
The second asked, "Brother, what is the point of installing a bug now? What we are looking for now is the whereabouts of Quintongtian!"
Teng Lin Zhengzhe said coldly, "If Quintongtian really encounters an accident, then only the Chinese will know his whereabouts. Only by closely monitoring him can we know the whereabouts of Quintongtian!"
He sighed, and said: "Second, third, you two must be mentally prepared that Quintongtian is not alive"
The two were heartbroken. They'd grown up together. Zhengzhe's words were true. Their only lead was Charlie Wade.
They divided their tasks.
Ten minutes later, Cameron Isaac and Don Albertt arrived at the park with a refrigerated truck. They found Charlie Wade standing over Quintongtian's corpse. Albertt was shocked.
"Master Wade, who is this?"
Charlie Wade said calmly, "A Japanese ninja from the Takahashi family."
