The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 1821-1825
Chapter 1821
Hearing Nanako's words, Charlie Wade immediately said, "Tell me. If I can, I'll agree."
Nanako Ito hesitated, looked at him expectantly, and said seriously, "I want to ask you to stay a little longer"
"Longer?" Charlie Wade was surprised. "How much longer? To be honest, I plan to return to China tonight; my plane is waiting in Osaka."
Nanako Ito's eyes welled up. Her eyelids drooped as she whispered, "It it depends on your schedule. If you're pressed for time, a few hours would be fine"
She quickly added, "Don't misunderstand, Mr. Wade. My father and Mr. Tanaka are seriously injured and hospitalized. My aunt is busy with family matters and their care and I'm a little overwhelmed. I need you to stay with me for a few more hours"
Charlie Wade considered this, then nodded. "I'll stay until afternoon. It'll take four hours to drive back to Osaka."
"You booked a flight from Osaka?" Nanako Ito asked.
"No," Charlie Wade replied truthfully. "A friend arranged a private jet, parked at Osaka Airport."
Nanako Ito tentatively suggested, "Mr. Wade, could your companions fly to Tokyo, and you could meet them at Tokyo airport before flying back to China? That would save four hours of driving."
She quickly added, "If it's inconvenient, don't worry about it."
Charlie Wade's original plan was to drive back to Osaka, meet Cameron Isaac, Don Albertt, and Liam, and fly from Osaka. Nanako's suggestion was good; it eliminated the drive. Plus, Nanako's distress was understandable after the Ito family's accident. Staying another day would also allow him to investigate the Banks family's activities in Tokyo.
He told Nanako, "In that case, I'll wait until dawn to contact my friends and check on them."
Nanako Ito excitedly exclaimed, "That's wonderful!" She invited him to her family restaurant, which she described as larger than a medium-sized restaurant.
Charlie Wade felt like he was in a Japanese buffet. Several chefs were preparing various Japanese dishes.
Nanako Ito asked, "Mr. Wade, is there anything you'd like? Just tell the chefs."
Chapter 1822
Charlie Wade surveyed the food, but didn't feel drawn to any of the delicacies. He smiled and said, "Thank you, but I'd like a bowl of ramen."
Nanako Ito immediately instructed the ramen chef, "Yokoyama-san, please make two bowls of ramen. Mr. Wade's should have double noodles!"
The chef respectfully replied, "Certainly, please wait a moment."
Meanwhile, in the St. Regis Tokyo presidential suite, the fifty-something Zayne Banks was awake.
Holding coffee and a cigarette, he gazed at the pre-dawn Tokyo streets. His cigarette finished, he stubbed it out, lit another, and asked his confidant, Mr. Palmer, "How are the young masters and young ladies?"
Mr. Palmer checked the time. "Their plane should land in Eastcliff in half an hour. I've informed the family. Your wife and the doctor are at the airport. They'll take Fitz and Zara to the family hospital for a checkup immediately after landing."
Zayne nodded grimly. "This was dangerous. I almost lost Fitz and Zara in Tokyo! That damned Matsumoto—may his entire family be annihilated! It won't quench my anger!"
Mr. Palmer said, "Sir, the Matsumoto family is gone. You shouldn't be so angry."
Zayne gritted his teeth, taking another drag of his cigarette. "It's Tokyo. If it weren't so inconvenient, I'd personally cut Matsumoto a thousand times!"
Mr. Palmer said, "Sir, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department suspects the Banks family's involvement. While you rest, they've been protesting with me. They say we caused a huge disturbance without notice, threatening to report this matter to the Homeland Security Council, claiming a breach of national security."
"Breach of national security?" Zayne scoffed. "Matsumoto's actions warrant that? I think they're just upset we killed so many people in Tokyo."
"Yes, sir," Mr. Palmer said. "The Tokyo government is also dissatisfied. They see it as cruel and damaging to Tokyo's image, and are determined to investigate thoroughly. Tokyo's international airports and surrounding ones are under emergency status. They're strictly screening departing foreigners, even grounding private jets and charter flights. Our private jets are being monitored. Things are tricky."
Zayne asked, "Which airports are less restrictive?"
Mr. Palmer said, "Only Osaka Airport, hundreds of kilometers away."
Zayne nodded. "Have them disperse, take public transport to Osaka, and catch another flight from China. Avoid Eastcliff, and use a sea route to China to avoid Japanese customs. Get Ruoli and the others back tonight."
"Yes, sir!" Mr. Palmer bowed. "Sir, when do you plan to return?"
"No hurry," Zayne said coldly. "The Takahashi family suffered heavy losses, the Matsumoto family is destroyed, and Ito Yuhiko is disabled. Tokyo is safe now. I'll stay two more days." He checked the time. "Mr. Palmer, prepare gifts for visiting patients. At noon, we visit Takehiko Ito—our only current partner."
Chapter 1823
Dawn broke as Charlie Wade and Nanako Ito finished breakfast.
Nanako Ito said, "Mr. Wade, I'll have a servant prepare a guest room for you. You need to rest. You haven't slept all night."
Charlie Wade smiled, shaking his head. "Don't bother. I'm not tired."
"How can you not be tired?" Nanako exclaimed. "You've had two battles and driven hundreds of kilometers since last night's fight with the Tenglin Ninja."
Charlie Wade smiled and asked, "Aren't you tired?"
Nanako looked startled, then said, "I don't feel tired at all! I feel incredibly strong! I'm in great shape" She quickly asked, "Mr. Wade, is this the effect of the medicine you gave me?"
Charlie Wade nodded. "Yes, it heals injuries and improves strength and endurance, reducing fatigue."
Nanako marveled, "This medicine is amazing! Oracle Pharmaceutical will become a world leader, right?"
Charlie Wade smiled. "It can't be mass-produced. It's rare; a formula from ancient Chinese doctors. Once it's gone, it's gone"
He explained that the ingredients were readily available, but the pill required reiki (spiritual energy) for refinement, a powerful energy similar to that used in steelmaking. Without it, mass production was impossible. He wouldn't mass-produce such a potent medicine; it was too powerful for ordinary people and could cause global chaos.
Nanako Ito, having heard this, felt a pang of regret but didn't dwell on it.
Charlie Wade checked the time. "I'll call my friends and tell them I'm in Tokyo."
Nanako Ito nodded expectantly.
Charlie Wade called Cameron Isaac.
Cameron Isaac asked, "Master, where are you? We haven't seen you all night."
Charlie Wade said, "I'm in Tokyo."
Cameron Isaac was confused. "You said you were going to Kyoto. Why Tokyo? That's hundreds of kilometers away!"
Charlie Wade explained, "A friend's family had an emergency, so I'm here to help." He asked, "How are things in Osaka?"
Cameron Isaac replied, "Things are progressing well, Master. We should be done today. When are we returning to Aurouss Hill?"
Charlie Wade said, "I called to discuss this. I have things to do in Tokyo. After you're done, fly to Tokyo. I'll meet you at the airport, and we'll fly together to Aurouss Hill."
Cameron Isaac said, "Master, private jets can't fly out of Tokyo! It's restricted!"
Charlie Wade was surprised. "Why?"
Chapter 1824
Cameron Isaac explained that due to recent serious violent crimes in Tokyo, possibly linked to foreign forces, Tokyo had tightened customs and private jet controls. Only Osaka Airport was open for departures.
Charlie Wade understood; the Banks family's actions against Ryoto Matsumoto were the cause. He realized the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Japanese Homeland Security Department wanted to catch the Banks family to restore order and save face.
Charlie Wade sighed. "Forget it. You wait for me in Osaka. I'll drive there this afternoon."
Cameron Isaac urged, "Master, driving is too difficult! It's snowing heavily in Osaka, and the highway is closed. It'll take six or seven hours. Leave your car at Tokyo Airport and let my staff drive it. You fly to Osaka. It'll be faster."
Charlie Wade confirmed, "There are no restrictions on flights from Tokyo to Osaka, right?"
Cameron Isaac said, "No restrictions on domestic flights yet, but it might tighten."
Charlie Wade said, "Let's leave tonight. I'll aim for Osaka Airport at 7:00 PM, and we'll depart at 8:00 PM."
Cameron Isaac said, "Good, Master. We'll be at Osaka Airport before 7:00 PM."
Charlie Wade hung up and explained the situation to Nanako Ito.
Nanako Ito said, "I'll help you find a flight." She found a 5:40 PM flight, arriving in Osaka at 6:40 PM.
Charlie Wade agreed and gave her his passport number for booking.
Nanako Ito asked, "Mr. Wade, would you like to bring gifts for your family? Tokyo is great for shopping. If you want to go shopping, I can have lunch with you."
Charlie Wade decided to buy gifts for his wife and mother-in-law. He said, "I'm not familiar with Tokyo, so please take me around."
Nanako Ito agreed, suggesting Ginza. She also asked, "I want to take lunch to my father at the hospital. Would you like to come?"
Charlie Wade agreed.
Chapter 1825
After breakfast, Nanako Ito took Charlie Wade to her boudoir. She burned incense, prepared matcha, and said, "Mr. Wade, I'll review the family's financial statements and get familiar with the business. Tell me if you're bored."
Charlie Wade said he'd check his phone. He wasn't interested in games, but wanted to see Tokyo news for information.
Nanako Ito reviewed confidential family data without hiding it from him.
Charlie Wade found a news article about recent violent incidents in Tokyo. The Yakuza, Japan's largest gang, had issued a statement vowing to use violence to curb violence and maintain order, implicitly targeting the Banks family for their excessive actions. They had angered both Japanese authorities and criminal organizations. Future Japanese operations would be difficult.
Meanwhile, at the Wade family mansion in Eastcliff, Nathaniel Wade called a family meeting about the same news. Lord Banks was pleased, commenting on the Banks family's troubles, their failed cooperation attempt, and the near deaths of Fitz and Zara. He pointed out that the Banks family had angered all of Japan, making future expansion there difficult. His sons gloated. Myles regretted that Fitz and Zara had survived; their deaths would have crippled the Banks family. Lord Banks sighed, noting Zayne's lack of skill compared to Bruce, and lamented Bruce's death. He mused that if Bruce were alive, even the Banks family would not stand a chance against the Wade family.
