Chapter 2039
Charlie Wade drove straight to Shangri-La, where men arranged by Cameron Isaac were waiting at the gate with a trolley. Seeing Charlie arrive, they hurriedly pushed the cart forward and said respectfully, “Mr. Wade, Mr. Cameron asked us to prepare some fireworks for you. Would you like us to help you carry them to your car?”
Charlie Wade nodded, opened the trunk, and said, “Thank you for your hard work.”
They quickly waved their hands, replying, “Mr. Wade, you’re very kind. It’s our pleasure.”
They then loaded several large boxes of fireworks into the BMW’s trunk. Charlie Wade thanked them and drove back to the villa. He then called Claire Wilson, asking her and her parents to prepare themselves; he would pick them up soon to find a suitable fireworks display location.
Claire Wilson was delighted. She and her parents quickly donned their thick down jackets and waited at the gate of Thompson First.
As soon as Charlie Wade’s car arrived, the three of them got in.
Claire Wilson asked, “Honey, where are we going to set off fireworks?”
Charlie Wade smiled. “Anywhere outside the city limits is fine. You can decide.”
Jacob Wilson suggested, “Why don’t we go to the river? The view will be beautiful, and the fireworks will reflect in the water, making it even more special!”
Claire Wilson smiled. “Dad, that’s a great idea! Let’s go to the river!” Jacob Wilson added, “I know a lovely spot with a wide riverbank!”
As Charlie listened to his wife and father-in-law discuss the river, he was suddenly reminded of Jasmine from the Moore family. She had once taken him to the Yangtze River and suggested a stroll along the bank. He’d readily agreed, not thinking much of it. He hadn’t expected that after their walk, she would drop him off at Thompson First and then unexpectedly kiss him in the car. The memory remained vivid, bringing a sense of warmth whenever he recalled it.
Lost in thought, Charlie drove towards the Yangtze River, following Jacob Wilson’s directions. Unbeknownst to him, his father-in-law was leading him to the very same spot Jasmine had taken him to.
It being New Year’s Eve, the area was deserted. After parking, Charlie and his father-in-law carried several boxes of fireworks to the riverbank. On the concrete embankment, Charlie placed the fireworks at regular intervals. Jacob Wilson, unable to contain his excitement, immediately set off a couple of firecrackers.
The festive sound of firecrackers echoed along the river, instantly creating a New Year atmosphere.
Once the firecrackers were finished, Charlie said to Claire Wilson, “Claire, I’m going to prepare the fireworks!”
Claire Wilson immediately pulled out her phone, exclaiming, “Honey, wait a moment! I’ll start recording!”
Charlie took her phone and activated the camera before lighting the fireworks fuse. The colorful fireworks soared into the sky, exploding over the river, their reflections dancing on the water’s surface. Claire Wilson danced with joy.
Charlie set off a second, third, and fourth set of fireworks until they were all gone. Claire’s cheeks flushed with excitement. It had been a long time since she’d enjoyed setting off fireworks so freely; she felt like a child again.
Jacob Wilson and Elaine Ma were also overjoyed. This Lunar New Year was incredibly meaningful for their family of four. The perfect evening brought them an unprecedented sense of happiness. At midnight, as the new year began, Charlie set off the final fireworks, and Jacob Wilson lit the last firecracker.
Claire Wilson clasped her hands over her mouth and shouted, “Happy New Year, husband, parents!”
