Chapter 115
Frank stared at the surveillance footage in disbelief. He couldnโt accept what the others behind him were saying.
Iron said, โSomeone must have tampered with this video?โ
Leonโs expression darkened further. โThatโs obvious.โ
โPhoebe and Brenda must have a pro working for them,โ he added, recalling how Gwenโs evidence had been restored similarly. He turned to the manager. โIs this the original surveillance footage?โ
The manager looked perplexed. โYes, itโs the original.โ He pulled it up right in front of them. โIt couldnโt be fake.โ The footage looked normal to him, and the timestamps were consistent. The manager couldnโt see any problems at all. Leonโs frustration only grew as he regarded the manager. He was frustrated after being played by โsoebeโ again and again. The more he thought about it, the more irritated he became. He decided to call Reece.
Reece was at church with his grandmother, praying. He saw a call from Leon and hung up without answering. But Leon didnโt give up and kept dialing. Frank joined Leon to bother with the prayers. Go sort out your mess.
Reeceโs grandmother finally snapped, โYouโre clearly distracted. If you canโt focus, donโt bother with this.โ
Reece stood up. โYes, Grandma!โ As he walked, his grandmother looked at his back and sighed. Then, she shook her head.
Once outside, Reece picked up the call again. Leon got straight to the point. โFrank and I got attacked. They had someone erase the footage of us getting hit, and now we canโt find any evidence.โ
โI thought you knew someone good at this sort of thing. Can you bring him down to the bar to help us?โ
Leon didnโt mention that it was Phoebe and Brenda who had attacked them. He knew Reece might not help if he knew the full story.
Reece was taken aback. โYou and Frank got attacked? Who has the nerve to do that?โ
Lean wanted to point out it was Reeceโs sister and crush. But instead, he said, โNeither of us saw it coming. Their boldness surprised us. Just come and help us out.โ
Reece had a good relationship with them. He agreed without hesitation. โIโll be right over.โ He knew where they had been gathering, so he made a quick call to his tech-savvy friend and headed to the bar.
When Reece arrived at the monitoring room and saw Frankโs bruised face and hands, he was stunned. โDid they really beat you up?โ
โYeah, itโs pretty rough,โ Frank replied, managing a weak grin. โBrenda really went all out.โ
Reece glanced at Leon. โYou didnโt get hit?โ
Leonโs chest and stomach were still hurting badly. Upon hearing this, he said angrily, โIโm even more serious than Frank.โ He planned to go to the hospital with Frank after they sorted out the surveillance issue. Phoebe had gone too far this time, and he wondered how bad his injury actually was.
He turned to Reeceโs friend, who was wearing a cap and a mask. โThis is your friend, right? Please take a look at this. We need to restore the original footage.โ
The friend nodded without speaking and pulled out a laptop. He began copying the surveillance footage onto it. After about ten minutes, he finally spoke. โThe footage is fine.โ
Iron frowned. โThat canโt be right. We got attacked, but thereโs nothing in the video. The footage was culโฆโ
The guy shrugged. The person who did this has some serious skills. I couldnโt find any data or signs of tampering in the footage! He said truthfully, โThe tech behind this is top-notch.โ โTheyโre definitely in the top three of intentional hackers.โ
โYouโd need to find the best one out there to restore this footage. Otherwise, good luck.โ
Leon didnโt doubt the guyโs word. Top hackers could pull off these kinds of stunts. While he could do some impressive things himself, he certainly wasnโt at that level. Restoring the original footage seemed impossible.
Leonโs expression darkened. โAre you saying it canโt be restored at all?โ
The man nodded. โNo way.โ He couldnโt do anything more and left after saying goodbye to Reece.
Reece was astonished. His friendโs hacking skills were among the top ten in the world, and yet he couldnโt help them.
Curiosity got the better of him. โWho exactly attacked you two!โ Not only did they have the guts to hit them, but they also had a skilled hacker backing them.
Leon pressed his hand against his chest, wincing. โYosi probably wouldnโt want to know?โ He then asked others if anyone had recorded the moment they were attacked. Everyone shook their heads. Phoebe and Brenda had caught them off guard, and their swift actions left everyone dazed. No one thought to grab their phones to record the incident.
After some thought, Leon said, โLetโs head back upstairs and ask if anyone has footage from before the attack. Iโll pay a high price for it.โ
So, they returned to the second floor. His two friends went to check with other tables, but their experiences were the same. Everyone was still in shock from the sudden assault, leaving no one with the presence of mind to record anything.
Hearing this outcome, Leon and Sienna felt utterly frustrated. Losing the evidence meant they couldnโt take revenge.
However, Frank was not surprised. โIf Phoebe can hire someone to mess with the footage, she definitely considered this possibility.โ
โIf anyone did manage to record it, the hacker might have deleted that too or altered the content. So finding evidence is impossible.โ
As Frank said, Phoebe had indeed checked the surveillance footage to see if anyone had recorded the incident. After confirming that no one had, she only tampered with the original footage.
Leon was furious. โShe thought of everything.โ He pointed at the people around. โShould I call the police and have them testify?โ
Frank raised an eyebrow at him. โYou really think that would work! The surveillance video shows no evidence of us getting attacked.โ
โIf you report it, Phoebe and Brenda could easily claim that you two conspired to frame them.โ
โWithout evidence, itโs just your word against theirs. They might even counter-sue for defamation.โ
Frankโs words hit hard. โThe footage is the evidence. Without it, you couldnโt do anything.โ
Leon was at a loss, thinking Frank was not a good friend at all. He offered no solutions and also threw salt in his wounds. He said angrily, โYou got beat up by Brenda too. Donโt you want her to apologize?โ
Frank gave him a pointed look. โIโm not as foolish as you and Reece?โ Using such tactics to make Brenda yield would only push her further away. He might even end up getting another beating, Reece was a perfect example of that.
In recent years, Leon had neither grown nor learned. If anything, he had become more foolish.
Frank shrugged dismissively. โBesides, I enjoy being hit by her. Whatโs wrong with that? Are you jealous!โ
Leon scoffed. โJealous of what? Iโm not sick.โ
Unable to hold back, he exclaimed, โYou must be a freak to like getting hit. Thatโs just messed up.โ
Reece, utterly confused, interjected. โWhat did you say?โ
Frank glanced at him. โYou just figuring this out now?โ
Leon, in a fit of anger, kicked the table. He instantly regretted it, clutching his chest and abdomen as the pain intensified.
After witnessing their exchange, Reece finally pieced it together. โSo youโre saying the attackers were Phoebe and Brenda!โ He could hardly believe it.
