Chapter 206
At that moment, Jamar and his team had just finished assisting a tour group and received their translation commission. Jamar turned to Reece and Andrea and asked, “Shall we call it a day? Do you guys want to grab some afternoon tea?”
Reece and Andrea were puzzled. “Afternoon tea?” They weren’t particularly interested and were about to decline when Jamar casually added, “I heard Phoebe and her group went to a specialty restaurant for afternoon tea, so we thought we’d check it out too.”
The moment they heard Phoebe would be there, Reece and Andrea immediately changed their minds.
“Oh, in that case, let’s go!” Andrea smiled and added, “We’ll have a simple dinner later and stay at the same hotel as last night. That way, we can afford the afternoon tea.”
Reece agreed. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”
Another day of trying to catch a glimpse of Phoebe.
So, the four of them took a taxi to the restaurant. As they arrived downstairs, Cain had just entered the restaurant upstairs. From where he stood, he could see Phoebe sitting with her group, chatting and laughing.
As a well-known rising director, Cain didn’t want to appear on a live stream, so he contacted Sebastian and asked him to have a staff member call Phoebe over. Sebastian agreed to ask her but made it clear that if Phoebe was unwilling, they wouldn’t force her.
Soon, a female staff member walked over to Phoebe and whispered something in her ear. Phoebe looked up toward the entrance and saw Cain standing there, looking all proper. When he noticed her gaze, he even had the audacity to wave.
Phoebe wasn’t surprised that Cain had shown up. This guy had always been the one who doted on Sienna the most. In the past, he was also the one who targeted her the most—because of Sienna. Now that Sienna was injured, of course, she’d have called Cain to come and accompany her.
As for why he was here, she didn’t even have to guess. It was either to question her or lecture her.
Phoebe thought for a moment, said a few words to Maddox and the others, then got up and walked over. Since Cain had delivered himself to her, she wasn’t going to hold back.
Standing before Cain, she coldly asked, “What do you want?”
Cain hated this indifferent attitude of hers. Back home, it was always the same. Whenever she bullied Sienna and he called her out, she gave him the cold shoulder. But to the others? She made medicinal dishes, crafted special lozenges for their throats, and sent them thoughtful reminders. With him? She’d eat the medicinal food with others but wouldn’t even bother giving him a single thing.
In an attempt to mend their relationship before, he had even asked her to help pick an auspicious date for his film’s Ravana character. But after another argument about Sienna, things had only worsened.
“I just wanted to ask why you—” Before he could finish, Jamar suddenly ran over and interrupted.
Jamar quickly rushed forward and asked, “Cain, what are you doing here?” Cain looked at him, baffled. Hadn’t they just spoken on the phone?
Chapter 205
He was about to respond when Jamar threw an arm around his shoulder and said, “It’s been a while since we’ve caught up! Let’s go over there?” Then he turned to Phoebe with a smile. “You’re busy, so we won’t disturb you.”
Cain tried to say something, but Jamar forcefully dragged him away. Because he had run upstairs first, the live stream cameraman was still behind. Jamar felt relieved; if he had been even a second late, Cain would’ve blurted out his nonsense in front of the camera.
Phoebe watched Jamar drag Cain away and smirked. “That was good timing.” But she wasn’t worried—there would be plenty of chances to deal with Cain later. So, she simply returned to her seat and carried on as usual.
In a quiet corner, Cain shook off Jamar’s grip, frowning. “What are you doing?”
Jamar pulled him behind a large potted plant, successfully avoiding both Phoebe’s live stream and the incoming cameraman. In a low voice, he said, “Stopping you, obviously.”
Cain scowled. “Stopping me? Are you out of your mind?”
Jamar rolled his eyes. “No, but you sure are. Dad sent me.”
Cain was stunned. “Dad sent you? Are you serious?”
“Of course. Would I dare make something like that up?” Jamar scoffed. “And not just Dad—Mom’s on her way, too. She should be landing soon.”
Cain’s face darkened. “How did they even know I was here?” He narrowed his eyes at Jamar. “Did you guys rat me out?”
Jamar answered confidently, “Of course not.” He would never admit it.
“Sienna gets injured and hospitalized, and suddenly you decide to go on a trip? The timing was way too suspicious—did you really think Dad wouldn’t figure it out? He even guessed you’d come here to cause trouble for Phoebe. That’s why he told me and Joshua to stop you.”
Cain’s expression turned awkward. “Dad sure is good at guessing.” Then he asked, “Why is Mom coming?”
Jamar replied, “To take Sienna back and take care of her.” Though the real reason was to drag Cain back, but he left that part out.
Cain sighed in relief. “So Mom still cares about Sienna.”
Jamar casually responded, “Obviously. She raised her, after all.” Then he grabbed Cain’s arm. “Come on, I’ll take you downstairs. You can pick up Mom from the airport and then take her to see Sienna.”
If it were just his brothers stopping him, Cain would have ignored them and gone to see Phoebe anyway. But with their parents involved, he had no choice but to back down for now. Still, he figured if he couldn’t talk to Phoebe this time, he’d wait until he was on the variety show and deal with it then.
So, he followed Jamar downstairs and was shoved into a car. As he watched Cain leave, Jamar finally let out a sigh of relief. “Finally, he’s gone.” Now wasn’t the time for him to get scolded—Phoebe would deal with him on the show soon enough. Considering how much trouble Cain could stir up, his fate would probably be even worse than Joshua’s.
Jamar went back upstairs. By then, Andrea had already joined Phoebe’s table. She was sitting right next to Phoebe, acting like a total fangirl. Meanwhile, Reece and Joshua were sitting at their own table, each holding a cup of coffee, looking a little dejected as they watched.
Jamar sat down and exchanged a knowing nod with Joshua—Cain had been dealt with. So the three of them just sat there, sipping their coffee and occasionally glancing over at Phoebe’s table, listening to the laughter and chatter with a hint of envy.
At the airport, Cain arrived at the airport and first spotted Elliot’s assistant. After waiting for a while, Lydia appeared with her personal assistant. Cain smiled and greeted her. “Mom.”
Lydia glanced at him coldly and ignored him completely. The four of them then headed to the hospital. In the car, Lydia still didn’t speak to Cain, making him uneasy.
At the hospital, as soon as Sienna heard the door open, she immediately put on a pitiful expression. But when she saw who had arrived, she froze.
“Lydia… came in person? And Elliot’s assistant too?” She quickly put on an obedient and delighted smile. “Mom! What a surprise! Why are you here?”
Lydia’s attitude had noticeably cooled. “I heard you were injured, so I came to take you back home to recover.” Then, in a firm tone, she added, “It’s late now, but I’ve already booked tickets for tomorrow. We’re all going back.”
Sienna didn’t really want to leave, but she didn’t dare refuse. So she pretended to be touched. “Mom, you’re so good to me. I’m so happy you came for me.”
Lydia forced a smile. “I raised you. Of course, I care.”
After sitting in the hospital room for a while, Lydia excused herself, saying she was too exhausted from traveling and needed to rest at the hotel. She forcibly took Cain with her, leaving only her personal assistant behind to care for Sienna.
Meanwhile, Phoebe and the others had moved to yet another luxury hotel for the night. Upon hearing about their new location, Lydia instructed her assistant to book a room at the same hotel. She even went the extra mile—watching their live stream and calculating the timing so that she could be waiting in the hotel lobby just minutes before their arrival.
Seated gracefully on a plush sofa, Lydia adjusted her expression, making sure she looked warm and approachable. As soon as Phoebe and her group walked in, Lydia stood up and headed straight toward her.
