Lydia swung a broom at Cain with no merry. Cain dodged frantically to avoid the blows. But when he saw the broom nearly hit Sienna, he immediately shielded her with his body, standing protectively in front of her.

“Mom, don’t do this,” Cain pleaded. “The hospital chairs were too hard, so I just lay down with Sienna to sleep. We’re fully clothed! You’re misunderstanding the situation!”

Sienna hid behind Cain, afraid that Lydia would turn her wrath on her. She hadn’t expected Lydia to storm into the hospital room in the middle of the night, dragging along the broom. If she had known, she never would have asked Cain to stay.

“You expect me to believe that!” Lydia spat. “If nothing was going on, would people see it that way? What kind of siblings hug like that and sleep in the same bed! You two are absolutely shameless!” She was beyond furious.

There were already online posts circulating about Sienna being too close with Leon and Jaghua, filled with suggestive implications. At least this was happening abroad, in a private hospital room. If they were in their home country, with paparazzi lurking around, the Jenkins family’s reputations would be in shambles.

Worn out from swinging the broom, Lydia finally threw it aside. Turning her sharp gaze on Sienna, she demanded, “Sienna, don’t you have anything to say for yourself?”

Sienna clutched the blanket to her chest, her eyes red-rimmed with tears. “Mom, you’re really misunderstanding us. Cain was just keeping me company, and there was nowhere else for him to lie down. He only squeezed in beside me for the night. There’s nothing going on between us—we’re innocent!”

Lydia’s rage flared up the moment she heard the word “innocent.” “Innocent!” she bellowed. “Do innocent people sleep like that? Hugging each other more intimately than a married couple!” Even she and Elliot had never been that close.

Lydia couldn’t hold back anymore. She stepped forward and slapped Sienna twice across the face. “Sarima, I raised you for over ten years, treating you as if you were my own daughter. And this is how you repay me—by seducing my sons, trying to turn your relationships with them into something twisted!”

“Stirring up drama and driving Phoebe away, cutting ties with the family? Are you my enemy? I devoted years of my life to raising you, and this is what I get in return?”

Sienna, shocked and in pain, whispered, “Mom, we didn’t do anything! You’re misunderstanding me!” Hate slashed through her heart, but on the surface, she sobbed pitifully.

Lydia refused to listen. She wasn’t done. Grabbing Sienna by the hair, she yanked her head and slapped her twice more.

“Shameless girl? What kind of sister deliberately seduces her brothers? Just seeing the way you were lying together made me sick! I must have been blind all these years to think you were a pure and kind-hearted girl. A good girl would never behave like that!”

Seeing his mother lashing out at Sienna, Cain immediately rushed over and grabbed her hand. “Mom, please calm down! This isn’t Sienna’s fault. I was the one who insisted on squeezing in beside her. I was the one who held her in my sleep. Please, just calm down. We really aren’t what you think!” He was the one who put his arm around her when she was asleep.

Lydia was so enraged she nearly lost her balance. Even now, Cain was blatantly lying to her face just to protect Sienna. As Cam pulled her away, forcing her to let go of Sienna, Lydia turned and slapped him across the face multiple times.

“You disgraceful fool! So what you’re saying is, you’re the one with improper thoughts about Sienna? How did the Jenkins family end up with a son like you?”

Joshua and Jamar had never seen their mother this furious before. For the first time, they felt a chill of fear. Looking at Cain, they could almost feel the pain of those slaps on their own faces.

Cain’s face stung as he snapped, “Mom, can you stop already?!” His patience had run out. “I’ve told you so many times, and you still refuse to believe me! I’ll say it again—Sienna and I have a pure sibling relationship. If you refuse to believe it, then that’s on you!” He had never been beaten like this before in his life. If it had been anyone else, he would have fought back by now. But this was his mother. What could he do?
