Chapter 218
Brenda had celebrated Frankโs birthday a few days before, so she knew what to do. Phoebe asked, โDo you know Frankโs exact birth time? If you do, I can make a prediction.โ
Brenda shook her head. โI donโt know the exact time. Should I ask him?โ Even though she had decided not to love him anymore, she couldnโt just stand by and watch him get harmed. She figured that if she warned him and he still didnโt listen, then his fate was on him. It had nothing to do with her.
Phoebe nodded. โGo ahead and ask him. Also, see if he knows about Edithโs situation.โ Then she called Frank at the bar. Frank and Reece were drinking and venting their frustrations, while Leon sat beside them, occasionally throwing in some jabs.
Suddenly, Frankโs phone rang. When he saw the caller ID, his eyes instantly lit up. He picked up and, in an unusually gentle tone, said, โBrendaโฆโ
Leon couldnโt help but comment, โDamn, that gave me goosebumps.โ Reece was also speechless. โI got chills too.โ
Frank ignored them and spoke even more softly, โDid you need something from me?โ Since Brenda had returned to the country, this was the first time she had called him on her own.
Brenda, on the other hand, wasnโt used to Frank speaking so tenderly. She rubbed her arms and said bluntly, โCan you talk normally? Youโre making me cringe.โ
Frank was speechless. Adjusting his tone back to his usual one, he repeated, โBrenda, whatโs up?โ
Brenda asked, โAre you in a place where you can talk?โ
Frank thought for a second and replied, โWhat counts as a place where I can talk? Iโm at a bar, and there are two people with me. Does that count?โ
Brenda responded, โDefinitely not. Hold on.โ She turned to Phoebe. โHeโs at a bar. Should we not talk about this now?โ
Phoebe thought for a moment. โWhy donโt you ask him to come here? Iโve set up protective wards in the apartment, and we have anti-theft, anti-eavesdropping, and anti-surveillance systems. Talking here would be completely safe.โ
Brenda gave her a thumbs-up. Then she said to Frank, โPhoebe and I need to talk to you about something. Do you have time now?โ
He added, โWhenever you need me, Iโll always have time.โ
Brenda rolled her eyes. โCut theโฆโ
Frank chuckled indulgently. โAlright, Iโll listen to you.โ
Brenda interrupted. โFrank, youโre acting so cheesy.โ
Frank was speechless. That hurt. โIf youโre free, come to our place now?โ
Frank agreed without hesitation. โOkay.โ After hanging up, Brenda realized she had blocked Frankโs number. So, she unblocked him and sent him the address.
After ending the call, Frank smugly turned to Reece. โBrenda asked me to come over. Reece, from now on, youโll have to drink your sad, lonely drinks by yourself.โ
Reece was speechless. This guy was such a jerk. He asked, โBrenda called you over this late? Just you?โ Brendaโs personality was actually somewhat like Phoebeโsโstraightforward and decisive. She had already dumped this guy, so why would she ask to meet him alone? Something didnโt add up.
Frank finally explained, โThorben is there too. But still, Brenda reaching out to me is a good start.โ
Reece perked up. โPhoebeโs there too! Then Iโll go with you.โ
Frank looked at him strangely. โBrenda asked me to come for something. Why are you tagging along? Do you just want to annoy Phoebe? Even if you try, you wonโt get in.โ
Reeceโs face darkened. โIf you donโt have anything nice to say, just shut up. Iโll just keep you company, whatโs the big deal?โ
Leon chimed in, โIโll come too.โ He was bored anyway and wanted to watch the drama unfold.
Frank groaned. โYou guys need to chill. Iโm going there for serious businessโฆโ
Reece and Leon replied in unison, โWeโll go with you for serious business.โ
Frank didnโt bother arguing. Seeing Brendaโs message with the address, he got up and said, โYou guys go ahead and drink. Itโs on me.โ Then he started walking out.
Reece followed immediately. โDo I look like I care about that little bit of money? Iโd rather go with you.โ
Leon also stood up. โIโll pay for the drinks. Letโs go!โ
Frankโs face darkened. โAre you guys serious?โ
Both of them nodded. โAbsolutely.โ Leon actually paid. Then, the two of them followed Frank outside.
Once they got a cab, the moment Frank got in, Reece and Leon quickly jumped in too. For the first time, Frank realized just how shameless these two were. Seeing that he couldnโt shake them off, he messaged Brenda: (Brenda, Reece and Leon are being clingy and wonโt leave me alone. They want to come too. What should I do!)
Brenda saw the message and was just as speechless. Since when did Reece get so thick-skinned? She turned to Phoebe. โPheebs, Reece and Leon are tagging along. Should we let them come? Or have Frank come another time?โ
She personally didnโt mind. But Phoebe was the one who had no patience for those two. Phoebe thought for a moment. โLet them come.โ She had a question that only the Jenkins family could answer, and since Leon was coming, it was perfect timing.
Brenda nodded. โAlright.โ She replied to Frank: (Up to you).
Frank sighed in relief. (Brenda, youโre the best). Brenda wasnโt used to this clingy version of Frank at all. (Donโt make me cringe). If Frank had treated her this well from the start, they probably would have been together by now, but now, it was too late. She wasnโt going to change her mind just because his attitude had.
Frank saw her reply and his eyes dimmed slightly. He turned to Reece and Leon. โFine, you guys can come.โ
Reece was thrilled. โSo Phoebe is actually letting us come?โ
Frank glanced at him. โDonโt get too excited. I doubt sheโll be happy to see you.โ
Leon agreed. โYeah, I think so too.โ
Reeceโs face darkened. โScrew you guys.โ Still brothers! Couldnโt they just wish him well for once?
When the three of them arrived, Phoebe had already informed security, so they were let in. At the door, they saw that it was open. Frank still knocked. โBrenda.โ
Brendaโs voice came from inside. โCome in. There are shoe covers by the cabinet, put them on.โ
Frank smiled. โGot it.โ The three of them put on the shoe covers and closed the door behind them.
Inside, they saw Phoebe and Brenda sitting on the couch, scrolling through their phones. โHave a seat.โ
Phoebe looked up. โDo you guys want anything to drink?โ
Frank smiled. โWater is fine.โ
Phoebe nodded, got up, and brought three glasses of water, placing them on the table. Then she turned to Frank. โWe need to talk to you about Edith. But can your friends listen in? Are they trustworthy?โ
Reece and Leon felt attacked. So now, to Phoebe, they were just Frankโs friends! And whether they were trustworthy depended on Frank!
