Chapter 230
Jamar realized that Sienna was truly a skilled actress. It was impressive, the way she could summon tears and look pitiful on command. How blind had they been all these years to not see through her act! And honestly, werenโt they the ones who should feel wronged? After all those years of spoiling her, it felt like they had been feeding love to a stray. What had they ever done to deserve this? She was trying to drain them of their luck so she could be โfortunateโ herself, even if it meant making them suffer. Was this really their sister? Or some kind of lifelong enemy?
Before, he and Joshua had tried not to think too badly of her. They had half-believed what Leon said about her true nature. Now, she had completely shattered their trust. To her, they were just pawns in a game, easily manipulated with sweet words and empty promises. Not only had she never truly cared about them, but she was also actively trying to harm them.
Jamar kept his expression neutral. โThis is just a game?โ he asked.
Sienna nodded without hesitation. โOf course! Just a little game.โ She didnโt believe for a second that her brothers knew about borrowing luck.
Jamar let out a small laugh. โWell, if itโs just a game, then thereโs no need to take it seriously, right? Havenโt I always doted on you?โ His gaze darkened as he asked, โDidnโt I even cut ties with Phoebe because of you? Wasnโt that enough?โ That had been the biggest mistake of his life.
Siennaโs expression suffered. She hadnโt expected him to bring up Phoebe. Now she felt wronged. Did all the years of love and affection she shared with her brothers mean less than some outsider? Phoebe had left. But did they really have to keep bringing her up, knowing how it would hurt her?
Tears welled up in her eyes as she said, โJamar, donโt put that on me. What does your falling out with Phoebe have to do with me? I was always the one telling you not to push her away. I even said if she left, Iโd leave too. You were the ones who had a falling out with her. How is that my fault?โ Tears rolled down her cheeks as she added, โJamar, I canโt believe youโd say something so hurtful to me.โ
Jamar was speechless. Her ability to twist the situation and play the victim was truly next-level. He let out a frustrated laugh. โFine. Youโre the good one, and weโre all the bad guys. Happy now?โ Then he stood up, his face dark with anger, and stormed off.
Joshua was stunned. โSince when did Jamar get this smart?โ If he had known Jamar was going to walk away like that, he would have done the same. But unlike Jamar, he had a soft spot for Cain. He couldnโt just sit by and watch Sienna completely screw Cain over. Who knew what would happen once she stole someoneโs luck? Would they just become permanently unlucky? Or could it even affect their lifespan?
Sienna hadnโt expected Jamar to leave so abruptly. It was the first time he had ever treated her like this.
Calm, too, was confined: โWhatโs wrong with him? Overreacting like that just over a game?โ Hearing this, Sienna immediately threw herself into Cainโs arms and sobbed, โCain, I feel so wronged! Jamar was in a bad mood and took it out on me.โ Cain patted her back and comforted her. โDonโt cry. Iโll teach him a lesson later.โ Dura, sat watching this scene unfold, felt like his soul was leaving his body. You absolute idiot.
Going to Cain, she sniffled a few more times before finally stopping her tears. โCain is still the best.โ Then, as if she were getting back at Jamar, she pouted and said, โCain, why donโt you give me some of your luck! Thatโll really piss Jamar off.โ
Cain didnโt care. He didnโt think much of it at all. He lied and said, โItโs just luck, right? Lโฆโ Just as he was about to say โIโll give it to you,โ Joshua suddenly interrupted. He could see that this dumbass was about to fall for it.
Quickly, he looked at Sienna and exclaimed, โWait, Sienna, why do you look darker?โ He had noticed that the tear-streaked parts of her face were noticeably different in color. Cain instinctively glanced down at Sienna. Her skin didnโt look as good either. Now that Joshua mentioned itโฆ she did look darker.
Still, he didnโt want to say anything too bluntly, so he reassured her, โMaybe you got tanned while we were overseas? Your skin isnโt in the best condition, probably because you havenโt been sleeping well with your injuries.โ
Sienna, still in Cainโs arms, stiffened. Could these two idiots not insult her like this? Before coming downstairs, she had used a thick layer of foundation to cover the spots on her skin. But in all the crying, she had forgotten about that and ended up ruining her makeup. So now, she was even more desperate to get their luck. โThatโs exactly why I feel so unlucky,โ she said hurriedly. โI just want a little comfort from my brothers.โ
She turned to Cain, her eyes full of expectation. โCain, youโre willing to help me, arenโt you?โ Cain nodded and was about to speak whenโLydiaโs etiquette instructor walked into the room.
The woman frowned at the scene in front of her and said sternly, โWhat are you doing? Hugging like that in publicโwhat kind of behavior is this! Even a married couple wouldnโt embrace each other so casually in the living room.โ Then, looking at Sienna with disapproval, she added, โNo wonder your mother hired me to teach you. Your actions are completely inappropriate. Anyone who doesnโt know who you are might mistake you for a street girl soliciting customers.โ
Lydia had previously told her to be wary of Sienna. She had even warned her that Sienna might try to encourage inappropriate behavior with Cain and the others. And if she saw anything like that, she had full authority to discipline her. But the instructor hadnโt expected things to be this bad. People like her, who valued propriety above all else, found this kind of behavior absolutely unacceptableโso her words came out especially harsh.
Chapter 230
Hearing this, Sienna instantly pulled away from Cain. Then, as the instructorโs words fully sank in, her face turned red with fury. Not only had this annoying woman interrupted her at the most crucial moment, but she had also insulted her.
Sienna snapped. โWhat do you mean I look like a street girl? Thatโs way too harsh!โ
Cain also spoke up. โYeah, Sienna is the young lady of the Jenkins family. How could you say something like that?โ
The instructor remained unfazed. โIf you act improperly, donโt blame me for calling it out,โ she said coldly. She then picked up the ruler in her hand. โI was hired by your mother to teach you proper etiquette,โ she continued. โSuch behavior is unacceptable, and you need to be corrected for it.โ Looking at Sienna, she ordered, โHold out your hands.โ
Sienna nearly lost her mind. Ever since Lydia had brought this instructor into the house, her life had been miserable. Every day, she was subjected to endless lectures about how to act like a proper wealthy heiress. She had been driven to exhaustion. She had tried to resist, but Lydia had threatened to send her back to her biological family if she refused to learn. And while Sienna had a soft spot for her birth mother, she definitely didnโt want to go back to that powerless, poor household. So she had no choice but to endure it. But now, this instructor was escalating things.
โYou actually want to hit me?โ she asked in disbelief.
The instructor responded calmly, โItโs not hittingโitโs discipline. Ten strikes, so youโll remember not to have physical contact with men outside your family.โ
Sienna was speechless. Was this woman from the feudal era or something?!
