Chapter 504 Playing Nice for Now

Seeing that Wyattโ€™s expression remained cold, Yuniceโ€™s smile slowly fell apart.

Watching her change, Wyattโ€™s heartbeat began to slow. Did I overdo it? Did she grow up trying to please me, once she realized it didnโ€™t work?

He frowned. All she has to do is lower her head and...

Wyatt froze. Something soft pressed against his lips.

Yunice had tiptoed up, stretching her neck to just barely reach him. She gave him a light kiss and then looked up at him, her eyes sparkling. โ€œOkay?โ€

Feeling awkward, Wyatt shifted where he stood. A few seconds passed before he looked away, then finally turned and left her standing there with a cold, โ€œWhatever.โ€

Yunice raised her brows slightly. As expected. Wyatt doesnโ€™t respond to force. He only softens when coaxed.

Better keep him appeased for now. Iโ€™ll deal with the Saunders and Powell family mess first, then Iโ€™ll deal with Wyatt.

After all, ever since the day she married him, sheโ€™d always planned to leave eventually.

Wyatt was far too controlling. She didnโ€™t want to be some caged bird.

That night, Wyatt didnโ€™t return to their bedroom, and he was nowhere to be seen the next morning either.

After breakfast, Yunice sent him a message reporting her plans, then headed out.

He didnโ€™t respond.

Her first stop was to pick up Gillโ€”she planned to bring her along to the Saunders house.

As Gill got in the car, Yunice noticed someone hiding behind an obstacle in the rearview mirror, watching her.

Probably someone Wyatt sent to keep an eye on me.

Pretending not to notice, she drove off and took Gill shopping at a luxury boutique, splurging left and right.

Gill was all smiles, juggling bags of clothes and jewelry. โ€œHey, did you win the lottery or something?โ€

โ€œOpen the wallet,โ€ Yunice said while driving.

Gill flipped it open and stared, jaw dropping at the neat rows of bank cards. โ€œDid Mr. Wyatt kill someone and you caught him in the act, or what?โ€

โ€œHis ex-girlfriend,โ€ Yunice said calmly. โ€œI found out about her.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re serious?โ€ Gill went quiet, then slowly shut the wallet. Her face darkened. โ€œSo itโ€™s trueโ€ฆโ€

They had suspected all along that Wyatt had skeletons in his closet.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry,โ€ Yunice said. โ€œShe canโ€™t touch me for now. And don't start thinking Iโ€™m the one getting the short end of the stick in all this.โ€

Because really, it was Nora who got the short end of the stick.

Seeing Yunice so indifferent, Gill patted her chest, โ€œThank God you donโ€™t have feelings for him. Otherwise, this would basically count as a breakup.โ€

Yunice gripped the steering wheel. โ€œI wouldnโ€™t say I feel nothing. Iโ€™m just forcing myself not to care.โ€

But logic only went so far. Her body and subconscious always gave her away.

From the corner of her eye, she glanced at her wallet full of Wyattโ€™s cards. I canโ€™t pretend Iโ€™m not jealous at all.

What Maine said yesterday still echoed in her headโ€”Wyatt taking Nora to see the aurora.

That mustโ€™ve been so romantic.

Driven by a vague resentment, she had deliberately spent Wyattโ€™s money today and spoiled Gill with it.

If Nora, as the ex, got to enjoy his generosity, then Yuniceโ€”his wifeโ€”had every right to as well.

If they wanted to treat her like an object, a stand-in, then fine. Sheโ€™d join them in degrading herself.

She and Wyatt were legally married. She hadnโ€™t wronged anyone.

At the gates of the Saunders estate, Yunice and Gill got out of the car.

Word of Yuniceโ€™s visit had gotten out early. Thanks to Peggy, the whole Saunders family had been dragged out to the front to greet her.

That was the only reason Yunice was being treated with such fanfare today.

But when Gill stepped out, decked in designer jewelry and bags, jaws practically hit the pavement.

โ€œYou-โ€

Seeing Lilyโ€™s stunned expression, Gill exaggeratedly flashed the gem-encrusted rings on her fingers. The brilliance of the stones was practically blinding.

โ€œThatโ€™s right! Youโ€™re not seeing things. Iโ€™m rich now! All of thisโ€”every pieceโ€”was bought by my lady here. Take a good look. Stones like these? Youโ€™d only see them in a museum!โ€

Lilyโ€™s face turned red. She glared at Yunice. โ€œIs that true? You bought those for her?โ€

Yunice smiled. โ€œYes, Gillโ€™s helped me through a lot. Of course I want her living in luxury now that I can afford it."

The Saunders family members all stiffened. Yunice had lived under their roof for years and never once gave them anything. Now that she had money, the first person she spoiled was a servant?

Lilyโ€™s eyes turned red with fury. She wanted to lash outโ€”sheโ€™d nearly died giving birth to Yunice, and what had she ever gotten in return?

Elsie, quick as ever, grabbed Lily's arm and gave her a subtle shake of the head.

Lily looked at her. For some reason, she actually held back.

Yunice noticed the exchange and thought, These women are definitely planning something.
