Chapter 624 Jealousy Has No Reason
Yunice noticed the subtle shift in Wyattโs mood and moved her gaze away from Tommy and the two girls.
It didnโt take much for her to guess what Wyatt was thinkingโself-doubt, most likely falling into that familiar spiral.
The girl had kept trying to get Wyatt to chime in and solve a problem that clearly hit one of his weak spots.
People hated comparisons โ and Wyatt had always seen Tommy as a rival. Losing to him in front of others? Of course heโd feel humiliated.
Yunice leaned slightly toward him and said in a low voice, โIโm hungry.โ
Her voice wasnโt exactly quiet โ Tommy heard her too.
Sensing Yuniceโs obvious lack of interest in the two girls, he quickly realized he had overstepped.
This wasnโt a tutoring session โ Yunice and Wyatt had come here to eat, not to sit through his little show.
โWe have plans. If you want to keep working on the problem, do it at school,โ Tommy said before the girls could even protest. Then, turning to Wyatt, added, โIโll go check on the food.โ
As Tommy left, the two girls realized they had worn out their welcome. The one with the book snapped it shut with a dramatic clap and gave Yunice a sharp side-eye on her way out. Weโll see you at school, her look seemed to say.
Once the room was finally quiet again, Yunice muttered, โThree rude little pests. What a pain.โ
Wyatt raised a brow. โThree?โ
Yunice sighed. โMy senior โ brilliant academically, zero emotional intelligence. Being around him is exhausting.โ
Wyattโs brow arched even higher. โBut heโs really good at exams โ a total test god.โ
Yunice shrugged. โOnly because heโs never competed with me. If he did, Iโm not sure whoโd win.โ
Wyatt blinked, then turned his head away โ unable to keep from smiling.
Guess heโd been overthinking things. Sure, Tommy was impressive โ but not enough to make Yunice idolize him.
Because Yunice herself was impressive.
Tommy soon returned, sincerely apologizing. โSorry about that, it wonโt happen again.โ
Wyatt replied, โNo worries. Next time, we just wonโt eat together.โ
Tommy glanced at him, expecting a flash of anger โ but Wyatt only looked amused, like none of it had fazed him.
A moment later, the food arrived.
Meanwhile, outside, those two girls were grumbling as they stomped down the street.
โWhat kind of stupid question was that? How is she solving it so easily?โ Wendy muttered, looking ready to rip the book in half.
Her sidekick quickly stopped her. โWendy, donโt! We still need that as an excuse to go see Tommy again!โ
Wendy fumed. โYou still donโt get it? Tommy is obviously into that little bitch!โ
Then her tone suddenly shifted. She turned to her friend with an edge in her voice. โTell me โ whoโs prettier? Yunice or me?โ
Wendy had once been voted the prettiest girl in the med school. But Tommy, and even Yuniceโs boyfriend, hadnโt spared her a glance.
The sidekick hesitated before replying unconvincingly, โOf course itโs you, Wendyโฆโ
โYou hesitated!โ Wendy snapped. โSo you think sheโs prettier, donโt you?โ
โShe wasnโt even in the running when they did the campus beauty rankings!โ Wendy hissed. โWhere the hell did she even come from?โ
โSheโs that SAT top scorer Tommy mentioned, right? There was a cheating scandal around the SATs โ her name was involved. She hasnโt really shown up on campus beforeโฆโ
Wendyโs expression darkened.
โSo what, now that Yunice has finally made an appearance, Iโm not the top beauty anymore? Whatโs next โ is she going to steal the campus queen title too?!โ
She shouted that last part so loudly that several heads turned in her direction.
A hesitant voice cut in. โExcuse meโฆ were you talking about Yunice?โ
Wendy turned to see a tall, slim woman in a soft gray wool hat, long hair falling over her shoulders โ someone who bore a striking resemblance to Yunice.
โAnd who the hell are you?โ Wendy snapped instinctively.
Hands tucked in the pockets of her coat, the woman stepped forward. โI suppose Iโd beโฆ a relative of the Yunice youโre talking about.โ
Wendy scanned her. There was no denying the resemblance.
The woman smiled politely. โDid Yunice offend you somehow?โ
Wendyโs friend looked nervous, but Wendy lifted her chin. โSo youโre her relative? Then tell me โ do you guys not teach your kids about self-respect? That girlโs out here eating with two guys. Doesnโt she know what self-control is?โ
The woman tilted her head thoughtfully and glanced at the restaurant. โSheโs eating here? With two men?โ
โYeah,โ Wendy sneered. โOne of themโs our senior, and the other oneโs her boyfriend.โ
โAnd how do you know one of them is her boyfriend?โ
Wendy scoffed. โPlease. The way they were sitting โ waitโฆโ
So close, whispering and flirting, itโs obvious theyโreโฆ
