Chapter 667 Web of Shadows
Laurie scratched her nose and said with feigned awkwardness, โOh no, Iโve been so busy prepping for class these past few days โ I totally forgot.โ
Wyatt was so furious he could barely speak. โYou didnโt bother remembering something this important? Do you want me to tear up your prep notes?!โ
Laurie burst out laughing. โThis is your problem, not mine. If you think Iโm unreliable, why donโt you go talk to Yunice yourself?โ
That clearly hit a nerve โ Wyatt choked on his words before snapping impatiently, โWhere did you hide the recorder?โ
Laurie examined her nails lazily. โInside a rainbow-colored rose bear. Her roommate shouldโve left it on her bed.โ
Wyatt figured Yunice hadnโt returned to the dorm last night, so she probably hadnโt discovered the bear yet.
He hung up without another word.
Laurie raised an eyebrow. โNo goodbye?โ
She slipped her phone away and looked at Yunice. โThatโs what he gets for yelling at me last time.โ
Yunice, truth be told, was also dragging her feet. She hadnโt promised Wyatt anything, so going to him directly felt like admitting she knew about his confession.
And that would mean having to make a choice.
Instead of rushing into a decision, Yunice preferred to buy time โ one day at a time.
Just then, her phone rang.
Laurie grinned. โBet itโs Wyatt.โ
Sure enough, it was.
โBabeโฆโ
Laurie heard the sudden softness in Wyattโs tone and immediately winced. Talk about a total attitude switch.
โAre you back at the dorm?โ Wyatt asked.
โJust finished class. Not yet.โ
Knowing exactly what Wyatt was stalling for, Yunice deliberately teased, โAre you waiting for me outside campus?โ
Wyatt quickly changed the subject. โIโm back in Silverburgh. You should stay at the dorm for the next few days. Oh, and I had Nora sent away, but she snuck back, so I need to explain that.โ
Yunice raised an eyebrow. He was coming clean that easily?
She already knew Nora had returned โ but she hadnโt expected Wyatt to be the one to confess.
Wyatt explained, โI let her go on purpose. She might be linked to your brotherโs case, so I canโt move against her just yet.โ
Laurie shot a glance at Yunice, surprised there was still more going on with Nora. Sheโd assumed Wyatt let Nora go just to look like a good guy.
Yunice had thought the same.
Wyatt claimed Nora might be connected to Oscar? That didnโt make any sense. They had nothing to do with each other.
Wyatt continued, โYour brotherโs case shouldโve been closed a long time ago, but heโs refused to explain why he was at Elsieโs hotel that day.โ
Yunice already knew this part. She couldnโt figure out what Oscar had been thinking either.
Wyatt fell silent for a moment before suggesting, โI think it has something to do with you.โ
Yunice frowned.
โThe police found that on the night he went to the hotel, Oscarโs phone shredded a file from an unknown source. Thereโs no way to trace it now. That file is probably the key.โ
Yunice still didnโt understand โ what did any of that have to do with Nora?
Wyatt said, โIโm only speculating for now. Whether Iโm right depends on what Paul does next. Anyway, be careful. Check your dorm thoroughly โ donโt let anything suspicious slip by.โ
Laurie rolled her eyes. All that buildup just to get Yunice to discover the recorder?
What a scheming man.
Yunice had been lost in thought ever since she hung up.
She came to a stop and turned to Laurie. โIโm going back to the dorm.โ
Laurie nodded. โGo on.โ
At the dorm, Jennie and Lena were both around.
Yunice climbed into her bunk and pulled the curtain shut. Once sheโd confirmed there were no surveillance devices nearby, she lay on her desk with a notebook and began sketching out a relationship map.
Nora. Paul. Oscar. Elsie. Morgan.
Yunice wrote their names down one by one.
Nora had no direct ties to either Oscar or Elsie.
She was Morganโs sister and Paulโs subordinate.
Morgan and Paul couldnโt stand each other, while Nora clearly cared a lot about her brother.
Elsie, meanwhile, had improper ties with both Morgan and Paul.
What a mess.
Yunice couldnโt figure out what role Nora could possibly play in Elsieโs case.
Just then, Laurie messaged her: โDonโt overthink it.โ
Wyatt only said all that to set up his little recorder stunt. There might not even be anything to it.
But Yunice was a stickler for details.
She immediately called Taylor to ask how Paul was doing.
