Chapter 675 The Arrow in Her Hand
When Yunice caught the excitement flashing in Wyattโs eyes, she tilted her head and said coolly, โShut up. I havenโt decided how to punish you yet.โ
โEven if I told you to wait until I was in danger to step in, those Johnson mother and son only came because of you in the first place.โ
Wyatt said without resistance, โ...not wrong.โ
Yuniceโs smile vanished. Her expression turned cold โ and when she wasnโt smiling, she was honestly quite terrifying.
She asked, โSo whatโs the connection between Nora and my brotherโs case?โ
Wyatt explained, โI havenโt said anything directly because itโs only my suspicion.โ
โTell me anyway,โ Yunice demanded.
โโฆI think the video your brother destroyed at the end may have contained compromising or criminal footage of Nora. But he mistook the woman in it for you. Someone used that video to lure him to the hotel where Elsie was found. After Oscar was arrested, he was afraid telling the truth would expose that video and hurt your reputation, so his explanation never quite made sense.โ
Yunice said, โIf thatโs true, then the person who texted my brother was Paul. If Paul got him to that hotel, that means he knew what was going to happen. Elsieโs death might not be so simple either.โ
Wyatt had come to the same conclusion.
Yunice pressed further. โSince you already suspected all this, why did you let Nora go instead of arresting her and forcing answers out of her?โ
โIf she was willing to work for Paul, that means he has something on her. If sheโs the one in the video, then she doesnโt have the original footage in her possession. Even if I grabbed her, it would be useless. And more importantly, I donโt want that video to spread. Even your own brother was fooled by it. If the footage ever leaks, it could ruin your name.โ
It was just like that celebrity once ruined by a leaked scandal โ the trap was the same.
If that was why he didnโt arrest Nora, then letting Paul go was probably for the same reason. If Paul was pushed too hard, he might go down swinging and burn everything.
Yunice frowned. โSo youโre saying I canโt get my brother out unless I take care of Paul first?โ
Wyatt corrected her, โWe.โ
He knew Yunice preferred handling things on her own, but he still wanted her to lean on him โ at least a little.
He had known from the start that Madam Mary and Shane were coming to the school. Thatโs why he warned Yunice in advance not to come alone.
But Yunice wanted to give the old witch an emotional rollercoaster. She deliberately came by herself and even threatened Wyatt not to come in too early โ otherwise, no touching her tonight.
Heโd nearly kicked the door open when Shane tried to hit her.
But Yunice had said: Listen to your wife, or you donโt get one.
Yunice said now, โNot everything should be solved by leaning on a man. If theyโre not afraid of me, they wonโt respect me. So Iโll handle my own problems. Iโm not going to live in a cage, no matter how safe it is.โ She had once relied on others โ and learned her lesson well.
She would borrow power, yes โ but it had to be like wind in her sails. The arrow should always be in her own hand.
Wyatt didnโt see a problem with that. โThatโs easy. Make me your subordinate. Just give me orders โ get it done. Stop using those unreliable underlings of yours.โ
Yuniceโs cigarette bent slightly between her fingers as she narrowed her eyes. โSo youโre the one who replaced my guy inside the Saunders family?โ
โYou figured it out?โ
Yuniceโs voice was sharp. โThe writing style didnโt match my people. Your guy wasnโt very good.โ
Wyatt raised a brow. โThatโs because youโre too sharp. But you should also know โ Iโve already sent your original guy back.โ
Yuniceโs tone turned serious. โSomething happened to the Saunders family, didnโt it?โ
Otherwise, he wouldnโt have cut off her access to them.
Wyatt nodded. โA few days ago, Owen submitted a sample to the hospital for a transplant match. I was worried he mightโve used your sample. If the match succeeded, I was afraid youโd sacrifice your health to save him. So I detained your guy to keep you in the dark.โ
Yuniceโs face turned cold. โThat was unnecessary. I wouldnโt damage my own body for someone like him.โ
โI realize that now,โ Wyatt said. โOwen didnโt use your sample. He used Lily and Oscarโs. Seems he already knew โ even if the match succeeded with you, heโd never get what he wanted. So he didnโt even bother trying your name.โ
Yuniceโs expression darkened. โDid the match succeed?โ
Wyatt nodded.
Yuniceโs voice dropped. โWho was the match?โ
He noticed the cigarette between her fingers bending slightly again. Then he answered, โLily.โ
The flicker in Yuniceโs eyes shifted several times before she calmed.
โOwen did the rest behind Lilyโs back, didnโt he? So it wasnโt Lily crying and begging to donate โ he did it without her even knowing."
