Chapter 698 Confession and Correction
Owen wanted so badly to be close to Yunice again, but he knew heโd lost that right long ago. Even if he cried now, to Yunice, theyโd be nothing but crocodile tears.
After a long silence, he forced out a smile more bitter than a sob. โWith Carl and Wyatt protecting you, I feel at peace.โ
Yunice replied, โOscar too. Heโs looking out for me.โ
Owenโs lips quivered. He lowered his voice with shame. โRightโฆ Oscar tooโฆโ
She still called Oscar her big brother. But she would never call Owen that again.
Beneath the table, Owenโs fingers clawed at his pants. โI know thereโs no escaping my sentence, but I still have thirty billion left in my accountsโfrom selling the familyโs mansion and the hospital. You know that, donโt you?โ
Yunice nodded. โWhat are you trying to say?โ
โI wonโt live much longer,โ Owen said. โBy the time the verdict comes down, Iโll probably die in prison.โ
He let out a bitter laugh. โYouโre probably enjoying the irony, huh? I am too. I chased all that power and moneyโฆ only to end up with nothing. Not a damn thing. That money shouldโve belonged to you and Oscar.โ
Yunice said nothing.
Owen paused, then spoke with a heavy gaze. โYunice, I want to give that money back to you. I know you donโt need the thirty billion, but itโs eating me alive. Lily and Elsie led me around by the nose, and I hate them for it. Iโd rather hand that money to you than let either of them touch a cent.โ
As long as it made them suffer, heโd do it.
He didnโt expect Yunice to forgive himโbut heโd make sure the ones who betrayed him paid the price.
Yunice didnโt reject him. She only answered calmly, โBut Iโm no longer part of the Saunders family. No one can prove who I am. How can I legally take your money?โ
Owenโs eyes were resolute. โIโll handle it. Just leave it to me.โ
Yunice nodded, then turned and left the detention center.
That night, Owen confessed everything to the police.
But he also lied.
He claimed Lily was his accomplice in the abuse and unlawful imprisonment. He said he didnโt know anyone named Elsieโclaimed she was already dead. He admitted to forging psychiatric records to have Yunice wrongfully committed.
He also confessed to orchestrating the identity swap between Yunice and Elsie, providing details of the forged documents and even tying Yuniceโs new identity into his web of lies.
โWhy did you let Elsie take your real sisterโs identity?โ the officers asked.
Owen replied with unwavering conviction, โBecause Iโm not Willโs son. Elsie and I share the same mother. Weโre Lily and Timothyโs children. Lily was never kidnapped into the mountainsโshe was having an affair with Timothy. She had me first, then Elsie. Elsie is my biological sister. I threw Yunice out to take her place, for the money and power. Oscar was always away from home, so he couldnโt threaten my position. They all thought I was being a dutiful son and a good brother, but they had no ideaโI didnโt share their blood. How could I ever truly be one of them?โ
The officer frowned. What a twisted web.
Owen went on. โThe DNA test results from the original identity swap already showed itโElsie and I are siblings. Even if Elsieโs dead, the blood doesnโt lie.โ
Now that both Elsie and Will were gone, Owen could deny everything else.
If the dead could be used as solid evidence, then Yunice wouldโve already reclaimed her identity.
Timothy had vanished again. It could take over a year to find him. In the meantime, Owen insisted that he was Timothyโs sonโand no one could prove otherwise.
Even Lily would have no way to refute it.
When the police repeatedly asked him to confirm his claims, Owen stood firm each time.
On the seventh day after his arrest, Owen signed the official property transfer documents, formally relinquishing all rights to the Saunders Corp inheritance.
The case, due to special handling, was never made public or discussed online.
Everything moved forward quietly.
At last, the identity certification signed jointly by Owen and Oscar was handed over to Yunice.
After cross-referencing testimonies, evidence, and archived records, the police confirmed that Yunice had, in fact, been a victim of identity theft. Given the severity of the administrative errors in the registration system, they officially approved the process to restore Yuniceโs rightful status.
At the same time, Owen agreed to remove himself from the Saunders Corp.
