Adam hadn't expected Randall to show up. He instantly sensed Randall's feelings for Celine. Randall biked with her often.
Celine glanced at Adam, then turned to Randall. "Randall, would you mind giving us a ride?"
Without hesitation, Celine chose Randall. Adam's sharp, handsome features darkened.
Thrilled, Randall stepped forward and politely opened the back door of his car. "Celine, please."
Celine got in, followed by Hailey. From her seat, Hailey threw Adam a look of sympathy and smug satisfaction. "Serves you right for treating Celine poorly. Now she doesn't want you anymore." She smirked inwardly.
Adam instinctively moved to follow, but Carly grabbed his arm tightly. She clung to him, tilting her head in what she hoped was a sweet smile. "Adam, were you waiting for?"
Adam didn't answer. His gaze remained fixed on the car as it pulled away, carrying Celine and Randall. Celine was gone.
Adam's gaze dropped. Slowly, he pulled his arm free. "I'm heading to the office. Go home."
Ignoring her, he strode toward his car. Carly's face paled. Desperate, she stepped in front of him. "Adam, take me home."
Adam's face remained calm and expressionless. His strained relationship with Celine, worsened by his entanglement with Hailey, weighed heavily on him. His voice was distant.
"I need to go to the office," he said flatly.
"That's an excuse! I overheard everything. You and that tech tycoon were arguing about who would take Celine home. Now, when it's my turn, you have to work?" Carly retorted.
Adam's expression darkened. His voice dropped, sharp and cutting. "Carly." His tone was a warning. He didn't want a public scene.
Carly fell silent.
Without another glance, Adam walked purposefully to his car. Left standing, Carly glared at his back and shouted, "Adam, don't tell me you've fallen for Celine! It makes sense. Celine's a genius, born with everything. Yet she humbled herself to marry you, a man who was a vegetable, and stuck by you for three years, living like a housewife. If it were me, I'd probably fall for her too!"
Her words stopped Adam. He turned, his cold eyes locking onto her furious face.
"You've said everything. Yes, Celine is a genius. She put her pride aside to care for me and make me happy. She's far more enjoyable to be around than you. So tell me, Carly, why would I waste my time with you when I could be with her?"
For the first time, Adam spoke his truth. Celine did make him happy. It had always been obvious that his feelings for Celine were romantic.
Carly's cheeks flushed, tears welling in her eyes. Adam's lips curled into a slow smile. "You're the last person to say anything about this. You pushed Celine to me in the first place."
The color drained from Carly's face. If she hadn't left Adam after his accident, Celine never would have entered his life. This was all her fault.
Without another glance, Adam climbed into his Rolls-Royce Phantom. Moments later, the car sped away, leaving Carly behind.
In the president's office at Alvarez Group, Adam sat in a sleek black leather chair. Leo entered, his tone low. "Mr. Alvarez, we've completed the investigation into Mrs. Alvarez'sโno, Ms. Celine's background. After Ms. Celine sent her abusive stepfather to prison, she was sponsored by an anonymous benefactor who paid for her education. Ms. Celine excelled academically, skipped multiple grades, and graduated from Harvard University with dual master's degrees at sixteen."
