Listen to this chapter:

Celine wiped her hands clean with a handkerchief before turning to Benjamin. โ€œBenjamin, say whatever you want, but donโ€™t tell me youโ€™reโ€ฆโ€

Benjamin had been planning to apologize, but the words felt as if a bone were stuck in his throat.

Celineโ€™s voice was calm and cold. โ€œWhen you hurt someone, a simple โ€˜sorryโ€™ doesnโ€™t make things right. So donโ€™t bother saying it. I wonโ€™t forgive you.โ€ Benjamin was speechless. He was Mercityโ€™s โ€œLittle Tyrant.โ€ Aside from Adam, no one had ever dared to challenge his authority. This insolent Celine was testing his patience. His face turned ashen with rage.

โ€œBenjamin, you should close your eyes and rest. Save your energy so your leg can recover,โ€ Celine said.

Benjaminโ€™s face was pale, his body visibly weak. He couldnโ€™t muster the strength to argue. In the end, he obeyed her and closed his eyes.

Celine tucked the blanket snugly around him. She knew that Benjamin adored Carly and saw her as his beloved sister-in-law. The harsh words he had spoken earlier didnโ€™t surprise her; she was used to them.

Although she wanted to ignore him and walk away, she couldnโ€™t bring herself to do so. Her doctorโ€™s instinct wouldnโ€™t let her turn away.

At that moment, Wyatt entered with a set of clean clothes. โ€œMs. Tate, your clothes are soaked through. Here, change into these.โ€ Earlier, Benjaminโ€™s clothes had already been changed; Wyatt had brought him a set of menโ€™s clothes. Celine suddenly became aware of the cold that clung to her. She hadnโ€™t noticed it before because she was entirely focused on saving Benjaminโ€™s leg. The chill from her soaked clothes seeped into her bones, making her shiver.

She accepted the clothes with gratitude. โ€œThank you, Mr. Lawson. Iโ€™ll change in the other room.โ€

Celine entered the room and removed her damp clothes to change into the dry set. Suddenly, she heard footsteps outside. Someone was standing right outside the door while she was changing.

Celineโ€™s voice immediately rang out. โ€œWhoโ€™s there? Whoโ€™s outside?โ€

The person outside chuckled sheepishly when he realized he had been caught. โ€œMs. Tate, itโ€™s me.โ€

Wyatt. Celine had always been wary of him. Although he had rescued her and Benjamin, she knew he was only interested in her beauty. She couldnโ€™t afford to confront him outright; Benjamin was injured, and they were still on Wyattโ€™s territory.

Celine kept her tone neutral. โ€œMr. Lawson, what are you doing here?โ€

He remained at the door, pressing his face near the crack as if trying to peek inside. But Celine had anticipated this and positioned herself out of sight. He was thick with impatience. โ€œMs. Tate, have you finished changing? Do you need help?โ€ He was trying to find an excuse to enter.

Celine politely declined. โ€œThank you for your kindness, Mr. Lawson, but Iโ€™m fine.โ€

โ€œMs. Tate, youโ€™re a guest here. I need to take good care of you. Iโ€™ll come in now.โ€

With that, Wyatt pushed the door open and stepped inside. Celine had already finished dressing. She stood there, fully clothed, and met Wyattโ€™s gaze head-on. โ€œMr. Lawson, Iโ€™m done changing. Thank you.โ€

Relief filled Celine in disappointment. She had been too quick. He hadnโ€™t seen anything.

His gaze lingered greedily on her delicate, refined features. He stepped closer. โ€œMs. Tate, you must be cold. Why donโ€™t you come to my room? Itโ€™s much warmer.โ€

Celine staggered back, widening the distance between them. โ€œMr. Lawson, my brother-in-lawโ€™s leg injury is severe. I need to go check on him.โ€ Without giving Wyatt a chance to stop her, she walked past him and left.
