Celine wiped her hands clean with a handkerchief before turning to Benjamin. โBenjamin, say whatever you want, but donโt tell me youโreโฆโ
Benjamin had been planning to apologize, but the words felt as if a bone were stuck in his throat.
Celineโs voice was calm and cold. โWhen you hurt someone, a simple โsorryโ doesnโt make things right. So donโt bother saying it. I wonโt forgive you.โ Benjamin was speechless. He was Mercityโs โLittle Tyrant.โ Aside from Adam, no one had ever dared to challenge his authority. This insolent Celine was testing his patience. His face turned ashen with rage.
โBenjamin, you should close your eyes and rest. Save your energy so your leg can recover,โ Celine said.
Benjaminโs face was pale, his body visibly weak. He couldnโt muster the strength to argue. In the end, he obeyed her and closed his eyes.
Celine tucked the blanket snugly around him. She knew that Benjamin adored Carly and saw her as his beloved sister-in-law. The harsh words he had spoken earlier didnโt surprise her; she was used to them.
Although she wanted to ignore him and walk away, she couldnโt bring herself to do so. Her doctorโs instinct wouldnโt let her turn away.
At that moment, Wyatt entered with a set of clean clothes. โMs. Tate, your clothes are soaked through. Here, change into these.โ Earlier, Benjaminโs clothes had already been changed; Wyatt had brought him a set of menโs clothes. Celine suddenly became aware of the cold that clung to her. She hadnโt noticed it before because she was entirely focused on saving Benjaminโs leg. The chill from her soaked clothes seeped into her bones, making her shiver.
She accepted the clothes with gratitude. โThank you, Mr. Lawson. Iโll change in the other room.โ
Celine entered the room and removed her damp clothes to change into the dry set. Suddenly, she heard footsteps outside. Someone was standing right outside the door while she was changing.
Celineโs voice immediately rang out. โWhoโs there? Whoโs outside?โ
The person outside chuckled sheepishly when he realized he had been caught. โMs. Tate, itโs me.โ
Wyatt. Celine had always been wary of him. Although he had rescued her and Benjamin, she knew he was only interested in her beauty. She couldnโt afford to confront him outright; Benjamin was injured, and they were still on Wyattโs territory.
Celine kept her tone neutral. โMr. Lawson, what are you doing here?โ
He remained at the door, pressing his face near the crack as if trying to peek inside. But Celine had anticipated this and positioned herself out of sight. He was thick with impatience. โMs. Tate, have you finished changing? Do you need help?โ He was trying to find an excuse to enter.
Celine politely declined. โThank you for your kindness, Mr. Lawson, but Iโm fine.โ
โMs. Tate, youโre a guest here. I need to take good care of you. Iโll come in now.โ
With that, Wyatt pushed the door open and stepped inside. Celine had already finished dressing. She stood there, fully clothed, and met Wyattโs gaze head-on. โMr. Lawson, Iโm done changing. Thank you.โ
Relief filled Celine in disappointment. She had been too quick. He hadnโt seen anything.
His gaze lingered greedily on her delicate, refined features. He stepped closer. โMs. Tate, you must be cold. Why donโt you come to my room? Itโs much warmer.โ
Celine staggered back, widening the distance between them. โMr. Lawson, my brother-in-lawโs leg injury is severe. I need to go check on him.โ Without giving Wyatt a chance to stop her, she walked past him and left.
