With pen and paper in hand, Melody chirped, โThatโs great! I finally get to see the legendary Dr. C! Iโm her biggest fan! I want her autograph!โ She looked around as she spoke. โWhereโs Dr. C? Huh? Orline?โ
Melody, Adam, and Carly saw Celine walking in. Surprised, Carly asked, โCeline? Why are you here?โ
Melody glanced at Celine with distaste. โCeline, Iโll make you pay for hanging out with Nate last night. Get out of here. Weโre all waiting for Dr. C. We donโt want to waste time on you!โ
Adamโs gaze fell on Celine, and he frowned. Although he didnโt speak, his expression clearly showed his displeasure. It seemed he thought she was there to cause trouble.
Celine wasn't angry to see them. Amused, she looked at the three, batted her eyelashes mischievously, and said, โI know youโre all waiting for Dr. C.โ
โThen get out of my face,โ Carly spat.
Celine straightened, a small smile forming. โIโm the person youโre waitingโโ
โCeline? Why are you here?โ someone asked.
Celine turned to see Tracy Tate. Tracy's paternal grandmother, Sonila Johnson, had three sons: Aaron, Hayden, and Wayne. Tracy was Wayne's daughter.
Tracy was an outstanding woman with higher academic qualifications than Carly's. A doctor of medical science, she had furthered her studies abroad and participated in several major surgeries. She was more self-assured than Carly. The two were considered the jewels of the Tate family, and both looked down on Celine.
โTracy? Why are you here?โ Carly asked.
Tracy stood before Adam and, with a confident smile, said, โPleased to meet you, Mr. Alvarez. Dr. C sent me here.โ
Celine was dumbfounded. Since when had Dr. C told Tracy to come?
Tracy continued, โIโm Dr. Cโs assistant now. She assigned me to help treat Carlyโs heart condition.โ
Celine remembered Perry mentioning this last night. Heโd said heโd sent Dr. C a diligent assistant eager to expand her horizons. That assistant was probably Tracy.
It was a small world.
Carly gasped after learning that Tracy was Dr. Cโs assistant. โTracy, we havenโt seen each other in two years. Who knew youโd become Dr. Cโs assistant right after coming home?โ Melody turned to Tracy, eager for gossip. โTracy, is Dr. C really a woman? What does she look like? Iโm so curious!โ
Tracyโs eyes lit up with admiration. โDr. C is the epitome of medical expertise. All the medical staff in the country admire her. For the past few years, Iโve tried really hard to get closer to her. Iโve finally become her assistant, but I havenโt met her yet.โ
Melody exclaimed, โWow! Thatโs awesome! The women in the Tate family are all extraordinary except forโฆโ She glanced at Celine disdainfully. โCeline, youโre a part of the Tate family too. But why are you such a disappointment? Tracy and Carly are way better than you.โ Melody gestured emphatically.
Tracy then turned to Celine. โCeline, Iโve heard about the problems with your marriage. You and Mr. Alvarez should just get divorced. You can then head home and stop being an embarrassment to our family.โ
Carly laughed. โYou neednโt tell her that. Celine dropped out of school at sixteen.โ
Celine was speechless at the two womenโs behavior.
Adam remained expressionless. He turned to Tracy and asked, โWhereโs Dr. C? We agreed to meet at nine here.โ
