Listen to this chapter:

I think the heavens heard my prayer. Four years have passed so quickly, and now Declan's an adult. I know my time is almost up. "How much time do I have left, Hailey?" Pamela asked.

Tears welled up in Hailey's eyes. "Mrs. Zamora, you have about two months left."

Pamela mumbled, "Two months Looks like I won't get to see Alleen take her high school examinations."

Hailey tightened her grip on Pamela's hand. "Don't worry, Mrs. Zamora. I've asked Dr. Lynn to prescribe the best medication. We'll do our best to give you more time."

Gazing at Hailey, Pamela said gratefully, "Thank you for getting me admitted. We owe you a favor. Our family might be poor, but we don't like owing others."

"I'll get myself discharged today. We won't trouble you anymore."

"Mrs. Zamora," Hailey's voice trailed off. She knew nothing she said would convince Pamela. Just like Declan, Pamela had a proud spirit, too. Although Hailey said nothing, she would still secretly help Pamela. Imported medication would not only relieve the pain but would also prolong her life.

"Please don't tell Declan and Alleen about my condition," Pamela said.

Perplexed, Hailey said, "Why? I think—"

"Hailey, if Declan finds out about this, he will sell off everything he has to pay for my treatment. I know my body best, and there's no point wasting money on me. I don't want to burden him even more. Declan has never lived a good life with parents like me and his dad."

Seeing that Pamela had made up her mind, Hailey decided to respect her decision. "All right. I'll keep it a secret."

"Thank you so much, Hailey."

With her nose red from sniffling, Hailey said, "You're being too polite, Mrs. Zamora. Declan saved me. I wouldn't be here if not for him." Hailey's innocence made Pamela smile. Suddenly, Hailey asked, "By the way, where's Declan?"

"He's taking a shower. He should be done soon," answered Pamela.

Declan rushed to the hospital from the construction site. He was so dirty that he caught everyone's attention in the building. Usually, he would go home and clean up before going to the hospital; he didn't want his family to see him disheveled. Since the VIP room had a bathroom, Declan had gone in to shower.

Thinking Declan's shoulder would be hurting from lifting so many cement bags that day, Hailey hurried off to get the best medication from Oscar.

Soon, Hailey arrived at the bathroom with the medication. She raised her hand to knock, but the door was slightly ajar. Pushing it open, she said, "Declan, are you—"

In the next second, she saw Declan. He had just finished showering and was wearing only a pair of black pants. Hailey had seen his physique before in the dressing room—broad shoulders and distinct muscles. The sight of his damp physique made her shriek. She quickly covered her eyes, stuttering, "W-why aren't you wearing a shirt?"

Declan, unprepared for her sudden entrance, hurriedly put on a clean, white singlet. "Why didn't you knock?"

Little did he know that Hailey had wanted to knock, but the door was open. Hailey parted her fingers slightly and saw his arm tattoo—an eagle. Feeling a rush of heat to her nose, she reached for a tissue. She was having a nosebleed again.

"My nose is bleeding again!" she shrieked.

Declan immediately produced a tissue and held it to her nose, saying, "Tilt your head."

Hailey obeyed. "Why does this always happen whenever I'm with you?" she asked.

Declan merely looked at her and said, "All right. You're fine now."

Since there was no further reply, Hailey fixed her gaze on him, questioning, "Why aren't you saying anything?" However, Declan didn't know what to say.
