Chapter 467

โ€œAilam, please, just hear me out,โ€ Carly pleaded, trying to defend herself.

Adam stood motionless, his gaze unwavering. โ€œCarly, I donโ€™t want excuses. I just need to knowโ€”where is the emerald necklace?โ€ A cold, unsettling sickness curled at the corner of his lips. โ€œYou wouldnโ€™t be lying to me, would you?โ€

Carlyโ€™s breath hitched. โ€œLie to you? About what?โ€

โ€œThat the woman who saved me in the cave wasnโ€™t you. That all this time, youโ€™ve been deceiving me, pretending to be someone else.โ€

His eyes bored into hers, like a predator sizing up its prey. Carlyโ€™s spine tingled with a sense of dread. Adam had never looked at her like this before. Had he figured it out? Did he know she was an imposter?

His stoic expression unsettled her more than anything. She couldnโ€™t tell how much he knew. Despite this, she couldnโ€™t afford to confessโ€”not when everything she had was on the line. โ€œAdam, I donโ€™t understand. Why would you even think that?โ€

Her voice faltered, a trace of hurt in it. โ€œIโ€™m the one who saved you in that cave. You promised me youโ€™d take me with you, that youโ€™d be responsible for me. Have you really forgotten all of that?โ€

โ€œIf it really was you, that would be perfect. Iโ€™ve invested over a decade in you, Carly. But if youโ€™ve been lying to me, you know what the consequences will be.โ€

Leo had asked him who he wanted the woman from the cave to be; Adam didnโ€™t know. All he felt was a rising panic. He had given over ten years of his life to Carly and poured so much of himself into her. If it wasnโ€™t her who saved him, how naive would he have been? And even worse, what if the woman in the cave had really been Celine? If it had been her, then heโ€™d spent all this time hurting the very person who had once saved his life. That was a truth Adam couldnโ€™t bring himself to face.

Carly forced a smile. โ€œAdam, donโ€™t worry. Of course, I wouldnโ€™t lie to you.โ€

โ€œThen prove it. Show me the necklace tonight. Seeing is believing. That necklace is the only true proof of who you are.โ€

Carly knew there was no way out now. โ€œAdam, I have the necklace with me,โ€ she said quickly.

Adamโ€™s gaze sharpened. โ€œThen show it to me.โ€

โ€œI will,โ€ Carly said, her voice tinged with a hint of shyness. โ€œBut this necklace is our symbol of love. Iโ€™d rather show it to you tonightโ€”at your condominium.โ€

Adamโ€™s lips tightened into a thin line.
