Chapter 238

“This woman… I have no idea where she learned all these tricks. She’s constantly coming up with something new.”

At that moment, Haynes suddenly spoke up. “She said she wants a divorce.”

Jasper couldn’t help but roll his eyes at the news. “How long has she been talking about divorce now? Every time it’s the same old story. She threatens you with it whenever she wants something. Honestly, I’m getting tired of it, aren’t you?”

“Remember last time she said she’d meet you at the courthouse to finalize it? That was just because you didn’t show up. If you had gone, it wouldn’t have been about divorce at all.”

Besides, with the cool-off period for divorce these days and having to book an appointment, it’s not that easy to just split up. I know a buddy who tried to book a cool-off period with his wife, and they were told the slots were full. He couldn’t even get a date until next month.

“And then add a month for the cool-off period itself… You’re looking at at least two months before anything happens.”

“Stella knows it’s not an easy process now, so she’s just trying to scare you.”

Jasper’s chatter was abruptly cut off by Haynes. “She’s already filed a lawsuit against me.”

Jasper froze for a moment, disbelief etched across his face, before bursting into laughter. “Haynie, you can’t be serious! Filing for divorce through the court takes even longer! My God, Stella’s such a drama queen. She’ll do anything to get your attention, won’t she?”

Haynes said nothing, his handsome face clouded with concern. Was she really just putting on an act? If it was an act, she was certainly convincing.

Jasper, wiping tears of laughter from his eyes, noticed Haynes’ serious demeanor and stopped laughing. “Alright, Haynie, don’t look so grim. She claims she’s filed, right? If she’s telling the truth, you’ll be getting a call from the court soon enough.”

“And if you don’t get a call, well, you’ll know she was bluffing.”

Haynes turned his gaze away, choosing silence over further conversation.

Back at the clinic, Marvin and Rachel were busy learning how to identify different herbs. Stella watched them for a moment before turning to Mr. Burton. He gave her a knowing look, nodding towards the back room for a private chat.

Once inside, Stella couldn’t hold back any longer. “Mr. Burton, what’s going on here?”

Mr. Burton sighed. “That Jasper fellow came here a while back. I didn’t know who he was and turned down his request for a house call.”

“Then yesterday, he shows up with your no-good husband and his mistress.”

Mr. Burton had never had much patience for Haynes. The man’s escapades with that mistress were always making headlines, and Mr. Burton had long wanted to give him a piece of his mind. But as a recluse, tending to his little run-down clinic, he never had the chance.

Now, with age catching up to him, his children were urging him to retire. His eldest son had even given him an ultimatum: come home this year, or they’d drag him back by force if they had to.

The Bunion family had made waves in the business world, though few knew they owed their success to Mr. Burton’s legendary skills as a young doctor. Emma General Hospital, one of the world’s leading private hospitals, was founded by the Burton family. Named after Mr. Burton’s late wife, Emma General Hospital had been around for years, with branches across the globe. Yet, not many realized it was part of The Burton Group’s empire.

And even fewer knew that this unassuming old man was the real major shareholder of The Burton Group.
