Chapter 263

All of Rachel’s doctors and medical team had been meticulously selected and arranged. There was no way Haynie could find anything amiss. However, if she were to die unexpectedly, it could become quite troublesome. This time, the charlatan they encountered seemed like the perfect opportunity to alleviate the burden of her “death” that was supposed to occur a few months later.

Even if Stella exposed her, Haynes and Jasper wouldn’t believe it. Instead, they might accuse her of being malicious.

Stella’s voice cut through Rachel’s thoughts. “Mr. O’Brien sacrificed his marriage and a billion dollars to save Ms. Pearce’s life. Given Ms. Pearce’s gentle and kind nature, she might feel guilty and think she’s a burden to you.”

“What if she can’t bear the thought and chooses death over taking the medication because she doesn’t want to owe you?”

Jasper paused, murmuring, “That’s true… Haynie made such a huge sacrifice, and with Rachel’s benevolence, she might indeed feel overwhelmed.”

“No way, from now on, I personally make sure Rachel takes her medicine!”

Rachel was so furious she nearly fainted. Did he really believe that nonsense? If the pills Stella had were slow-acting poison, was Jasper trying to kill her? What a fool.

Haynes wasn’t as easily fooled as Jasper. He gazed at the pills in Stella’s hand with eyes as deep and inscrutable as an abyss.

“Could I take one of those for testing?”

Stella handed the bottle to Haynes without hesitation. “Sure, pick whichever one you like.”

Stella agreed so readily and allowed Haynes to choose himself. Her openness left Rachel with a flicker of doubt. Could the quack doctor have misdiagnosed and prescribed something else entirely?

After wrapping up the pill, Haynes said, “I have work this afternoon, so I’m heading out now.”

Jasper, eager to return and tend to his own matters, added, “Haynie, I’ll go back with you.” Haynes gave Stella a long, searching look before turning to leave.

The next day, the test results for the medication reached Rachel promptly. “Ms. Pearce, we’ve analyzed the pill. It contains no toxins and doesn’t really treat any illness. It’s likely just an innocuous health supplement.”

Rachel finally breathed a sigh of relief, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes. It has slightly higher protein content. Stella had truly outdone herself, hyping up the pills as some miraculous cure. Rachel had almost believed it, thinking Mr. Burton was a miracle worker. But it was just her overthinking. Stella, the fool, had been duped by an old con artist.

Once Haynes sent the pill for testing, Rachel quickly contacted her insider to ensure she was the first to know the results. If it was toxic, she would immediately inform Haynes. If not, she would keep it to herself.

Managing to navigate through the terminal illness facade, she didn’t mind collaborating with the old fraud. Plus, Haynes and Stella’s divorce over the ‘miracle drug’ was an unexpected bonus. As for the billion Stella held…

Rachel’s lips curled into a sinister smile. Once Haynes was divorced, she would make sure Stella didn’t walk away with a cent.

In a private room, Foreman Richards, just back from a business trip, nearly dropped his wine glass when he heard about Haynes and Stella’s divorce. A bit of wine splashed onto his crisp white shirt.

“What? Stella and Haynie have finalized their divorce?!”

Foreman was visibly shocked, his voice betraying his surprise. He had been abroad for a while and never imagined that so much had transpired in his absence.
