Chapter 14: I Do Not Care About This
Caleb felt resigned. What is she so happy about? Looking at Raquel, he asked, “Aren’t you going to chase after him?”
Gianna retracted her smile. “No need. She needs to figure things out on her own.”
Caleb nodded, then turned and walked away. Gianna hurriedly followed. “Caleb, I have something to tell you!”
Caleb didn’t even turn his head back. “She’s right. I’m nothing more than a man with a criminal record. Being with me wouldn’t do you any good.”
Gianna became frantic. “What if I say I don’t care?”
Caleb abruptly turned around; it was the first time someone had said that to him since his release from prison. People had always tended to avoid those who were different, preferring instead to stick closely with their own kind. Due to his criminal record, even finding a job wasn’t that easy for him. As such, he was surprised that Gianna, a prominent young lady, would actually say such a thing.
Caleb’s voice deepened as he said, “Do you even know what you’re saying?” If her parents discover this, she probably can’t avoid a good scolding. Even the Quixall family has kicked me out of the civil register. There’s no way the Sherman family will accept me.
Gianna smiled shyly. “Caleb, I had made up my mind when I came to see you. You may not recall, but five years ago, you saved me on the street. However, you only had your eyes on Raquel back then, so I couldn’t do anything.” Her eyes seemed to twinkle. “Now that you’re out of prison, and Raquel is engaged to someone else, I can finally pursue you.”
That fervor was too much for Caleb to bear, and he turned his face away. “I’m sorry, I—”
Gianna interrupted, “There’s no need to rush! I understand that you’ve been deeply hurt by Raquel, and you’re not ready to open your heart to anyone else. It’s okay. I can wait! I’ll wait until you’ve established your own career, emerged from your trauma, then we can discuss this matter.”
She gently proposed, “Can we start off as friends for now?”
Caleb couldn’t bring himself to reject her outright. Regardless, Gianna was Raquel’s good friend, and having been involved with her meant that it was impossible to sever ties with the Quixall family completely.
Caleb turned his back, choosing not to see Gianna’s expression. “I don’t need friends. You should abandon that idea.”

Chapter 141: Do Not Care About This
When she returned to her senses, she caught up to him. “Why are you here again?” Caleb questioned in an annoyed tone.
Gianna, however, didn’t show the slightest hint of being discouraged. “Mr. and Mrs. Quixall asked me to take care of you. Your wound hasn’t fully healed yet. I won’t leave until you’ve fully recovered!”
Caleb’s headache worsened. Has a huge trouble clung to me? Gianna seems even more challenging to deal with than Raquel. Honestly, I’d prefer she, like everyone else, despised and disdained me. In that scenario, the situation won’t be so complicated.
“I’m heading to the hotel. Are you going to follow me there?”
Gianna felt a bit awkward. “I’ll send you there.”
Caleb knew he couldn’t shake her off, so he simply gave up. He found a secluded hotel, preparing to spend the night there.
Gianna, however, held him back. “Caleb, come with me. I know a cozy spot that’s safe and not too pricey. Mr. and Mrs. Quixall will be displeased if they learn you stay in a place like this.”
Caleb scoffed, “Why would they care where I live?”
Gianna paused momentarily, then displayed an expression of distress.
