Chapter 21: You Are Unworthy
Caleb’s heart skipped a beat. He wants me dead! As long as I’m still alive, he’ll never let me go! He lived in great misery and suffering every day in prison. Under such intense pressure, he managed to survive for five years. Thus, Jesse, a scion who had never experienced the harsh realities of society, couldn’t possibly be his match.
Caleb wasn’t going to sit back and await his doom! An idea sparked in his mind as he immediately grabbed the pill from the bedside table and hastily shoved it into Jesse’s mouth.
“What are you doing?” Despite his desperate struggles, Jesse was no match for Caleb’s overwhelming strength.
“You’ll reap what you sow!” Once Caleb was sure the pill had slid down Jesse’s throat, he withdrew his hand. “Enjoy the drug you brought yourself!”
Having thoroughly fallen out with the Quixall family, he decided to escape through the window. He was on the third floor, but if he climbed down from the balcony, he might escape unscathed.
Caleb had just opened the window, preparing to jump, when Jesse shouted, “Caleb is trying to escape… again! Come quickly!” The Quixall family members arrived faster than Caleb had anticipated. In less than three seconds, the door was already open.
At that moment, Caleb had only extended his left foot out, and his right foot hadn’t yet had the chance to follow. A piercing scream tore through the air.
“Caleb, what are you doing?” Deborah looked terrified. “Please, don’t do anything rash! If there’s something on your mind, come down and let’s talk about it. You mustn’t ever consider taking your own…”
Caleb had been looking down, searching for a way out, when suddenly, someone seized him by the neck. Following that, he was dragged away from the window.
George was displeased as he said, “What nonsense are you up to now? You’ve just returned and can’t keep… Atl. Perhaps it was a mistake to bring you back from prison!”
With a hint of sarcasm, Caleb smirked. “It’s not too late to send me back.”
George erupted in fury: “What did you say?” He raised his hand, but he lowered it again due to Deborah’s persuasion. “Caleb had just returned home, so he’s not emotionally stable yet. Once he has gotten used to being home again…”
“…about leaving. 21:42 Mon, Apr 7”

George scoffed. “There’s no need to indulge him! He doesn’t even acknowledge himself as a member of the Quixall family, so the Quixall family has no room for him.”
With an apologetic glance toward Caleb, Deborah was about to push George out of the room. Suddenly, Jesse’s face turned pale as he said, “Mom, I feeling dizzy.” A moment later, he fell straight to the ground.
Shocked, Deborah hurriedly rushed over to examine Jesse. “Jesse, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me!” Jesse’s fingers trembled slightly as he pointed at Caleb but he couldn’t speak.
Deborah was both flustered and puzzled. “What does that have to do with Caleb?” She paused for a moment before her expression turned into one of disbelief. “Caleb, could it be that you…”
Caleb didn’t care what she or the others were thinking, maintaining his silence throughout. George was so furious that his chest heaved. In a swift motion, he slapped Caleb. “How dare you harm your own brother!”
Caleb remained unmoved. Jesse was the one who tried to harm me. Had I not done anything, who knows what would have happened? He said indifferently, “I did nothing wrong.”
It was clear as day that Jesse would never spill the truth, so he could only insist on his stance. That was his final act of defiance. George didn’t have time to deal with him. Together with Deborah, they carried Jesse out.
Yelena shifted a few steps, then suddenly changed her direction. She said, with a very disappointed tone, “Caleb, you’ve let me down. You’re unworthy of being part of the Quixall family.”
Caleb chuckled softly. “That’s exactly what I want.”
