Chapter 59: You Have No Say

The next morning, George forced Caleb to stand at the gates of the Sherman residence. The Sherman family's housekeepers had already gathered, whispering among themselves, their curiosity piqued as they watched the two outsiders approach.

“Kneel!” George barked, delivering a forceful kick. Caleb was caught off guard, his legs buckling. He collapsed to his knees. The housekeepers gasped, exchanging confused glances. They had no idea what was happening or why George and Caleb were making such a spectacle outside the Sherman gates. One of the housekeepers quickly ran to inform Phillip, while the others stayed behind, eager to see how this strange confrontation would unfold.

Outside the door, George placed a heavy hand on Caleb’s shoulder, his voice commanding. “Bow down!” Caleb stood his ground, refusing to bow. The defiance only fueled George’s frustration, and in a burst of anger, he struck Caleb several times.

“Did you hear me? I told you to bow! You stole from them and still think you’re in the right?” George growled. The force of the punches sent Caleb crashing to the ground, his forehead hitting the earth with a sickening thud. A few of the housekeepers gasped in horror, their hands flying to their mouths in shock. Some stepped forward to intervene, but a cold, piercing look from George instantly silenced them.

Gripping Caleb by the head, George forcefully slammed it into the ground once more. Blood splattered instantly, staining the ground and creating a horrifying scene.

“Stop!” A commanding voice rang out, sharp and forceful, causing the housekeepers to instinctively recoil. Phillip appeared at the entrance, his black suit impeccably sharp. His eyes flicked across the scene, cool and calculating.

“Mr. Quixall, what are you doing?” He raised an eyebrow. “The one kneeling on the ground, that’s your son, isn’t it? Don’t you think it’s a bit much to beat your child like this?”

George flashed a charming smile, trying to mask the tension. “Mr. Sherman, I don’t usually resort to such harsh measures. It’s just that this boy stole from your household, so I had to be firm with him—made him kneel and apologize right at your doorstep. But don’t worry, he’s been through the roughness of prison life, tough as nails. No matter how many times you ask him to bow, he’ll do it without complaint.”

With that, George reached out once more to grab Caleb, hoping to force him into another apology to Philip, seeking forgiveness. However, Phillip intervened. “Enough! I want to know exactly what happened. As for the punishment, I’ll be the one to decide.”

George quickly backed down, rubbing his hands together. “You’re right, Mr. Sherman.”

He then began to embellish the story, exaggerating Caleb’s supposed motives and painting him as a delusional troublemaker. Even the housekeepers frowned at his story.

“Oh, my son had been in jail five years ago. When he got out, he saw your lovely daughter and became obsessed with her. I’ve scolded him countless times, but instead of listening, he’s only grown more defiant—he even hit me! Look at this, he kicked me so hard that I can’t even straighten my leg properly.” George attempted to stretch his left leg, but it buckled, refusing to cooperate.

Wiping the blood from his forehead, Caleb smiled mockingly. When did I ever kick him? The bruise on George’s left leg was from bumping into the car seat this morning. Just a few minutes ago, George had been rushing Caleb to get in the car. But as he opened the door, he had accidentally slammed his knee against the seat. Caleb hadn’t thought much of it then—it was a minor mishap, nothing to dwell on. Who would have guessed that George would twist the truth and paint him as the villain in front of everyone!

Fury bubbled inside Caleb as he prepared to speak up, but before he could, George caught his gaze and shot him a vicious glare.

“You have no say here,” George snapped. “Just shut—”

Phillip raised a hand, cutting him off. “Wait a second.”
