Chapter 122

Matthew was equally surprised to find Jeffrey there. He suspected Jeffrey was the culprit; it seemed too much of a coincidence that Jeffrey was present when Shane suddenly refused to sell Wealthwave's products. Matthew instantly understood this matter wouldn't be easily resolved.

Jeffrey's eyes lit up when he saw Rachel. Her burgundy shirt complemented her striking, aloof features, making her even more alluring. He had been with many women, but most paled in comparison to Rachel's unattainable beauty. He could only watch her from afar now, a fact that fueled his desire.

Sensing his unabashed stare, Rachel bristled. "Jeffrey, I didn't expect to see you here."

Jeffrey snapped out of his reverie. "Oh, Mr. Wright needed my advice on some work issues. I'm here to provide guidance." He sounded nonchalant, as if Shane's superior.

A hint of anxiety flickered across Rachel's face. She feigned ignorance and turned to Shane. "Mr. Wright, I apologize for the unexpected visit."

Shane smiled. "I've always wanted to meet the legendary beauty of a president, and you've finally granted me the honor today."

Shane, in his fifties, had large, double-lidded eyes and short hair. He looked fine with a neutral expression, but the angle of his lips twisted when he smiled. Seemingly aware of the oddity, he struggled to control his facial muscles, resulting in a few disconcerting twitches.

Rachel was startled. She considered asking about his health, but felt it too forward for a first meeting. Pretending not to notice, she stated her purpose. "Mr. Wright, we've worked together for years. Why have you suddenly stopped selling our products?"

Shane cleared his throat. "Traditional medicine is too unscientific. All that talk about the five elements and contrary forces is nothing more than feudal superstition. Besides, can medicines made from bark and roots really cure diseases?"

His question caught Rachel off guard. Before she could respond, Matthew interjected, "Mr. Wright, why haven't you treated your facial paralysis? Further delay will make a complete cure more difficult."

Glancing at Matthew, Shane asked, "Who is this?"

Rachel smiled. "He's my chauffeur."

Shane's expression darkened. "What does he know? He's just a driver. This isn't facial paralysis; it's facial nerve inflammation or spasms. I've been receiving treatment, but it can't be cured overnight."

Jeffrey chimed in, "Mr. Wright, that isn't exactly the case. This man is quite knowledgeable in traditional medicine. Perhaps he could heal your condition immediately."

Jeffrey knew facial nerve inflammation was difficult to treat; he deliberately put Matthew in a tough spot to make him look foolish.

"Really?" Shane looked astonished. "Forgive my skepticism, but can traditional medicine really cure facial nerve inflammation?"

Matthew nodded. "Yes, and it's very effective. As Jeffrey said, you'll be cured immediately after treatment."

Jeffrey hadn't expected Matthew to agree. He'd attributed his previous success at the hospital to luck. Shane's case was different; he'd had a month of unsuccessful treatment, and traditional medicine was known for its delayed efficacy. Jeffrey doubted its effectiveness in this instance.

"Mr. Wright, why don't you let him try? If he fails, it will prove that traditional medicine is just feudal superstition. You can remove their products from your pharmacies afterward."
