Rachel glanced at Matthew in confusion. “Why aren’t you getting out?”

Just then, she heard a knock on her window. Turning around, she saw Tessa. Her expression hardened. Winding down the window, she glared at Tessa. “Are you looking for Matthew? He’s working right now. Find him after he gets off work.”

Frankly, Rachel disliked Tessa. She had abandoned her child and her husband, who went to prison in her stead. Already ruthless to her husband and child, Rachel knew Tessa must have treated her acquaintances even worse. She wanted nothing to do with her.

Tessa shot a vicious look at Matthew before turning to Rachel. “I’m here for you. We’re both women, so we should understand each other best. I have to tell you something, so you won’t be deceived.”

Deceived? Rachel recalled her time with Matthew, realizing he hadn’t lied to her. In fact, she owed him many favors. He’d cured Fred, resolved the medication incident, and even secured the deal with Shane. She’d given him only $20,000 in return, which made him extremely happy.

Rachel shook her head. “He hasn’t deceived me at all. I trust my own judgment.”

Tessa looked sheepish. Rachel’s retort stung, but Tessa pressed on. “I think you’re clueless—I’m talking about money. A huge sum, in fact. Are you sure you don’t want to know about it?”

Rachel shook her head. She’d just given Matthew $20,000. With her control over a company worth hundreds of billions of dollars, $20,000 was insignificant. Nonchalantly, she replied, “Calling $20,000 a huge sum is quite far-fetched.”

A flicker of understanding crossed Tessa’s face, suggesting she’d known all along. “As expected, you’ve been deceived. He really fooled you.”

Rachel had no idea why Tessa insisted she’d been deceived. The nerve! Tessa had taken all of Matthew’s assets after their divorce! Thus, Rachel felt the need to defend Matthew.

“He was short of money, so I willingly gave him $20,000.”

Tessa sneered. “He’s short of money, so you gave him $20,000? And you say he hasn’t deceived you? Do you have any idea how much money he has?”

Rachel looked unfazed, resembling a deity devoid of emotion. In terms of money, she had more billions than she needed. Even if Matthew had only $10,000, it wouldn’t faze her.

“How much money does he have? I bet he only has a few tens of thousands of dollars!”

Judging by Matthew’s elation at receiving the $20,000, she could guess his financial situation. If he were truly wealthy, he wouldn’t take money from a woman.
