Listen to this chapter:

Looking at his daughter’s pretty face, clouded with sadness, Matthew felt a pang of guilt. “Lori, I was wrong. I’ll tuck you in tonight.”

Lorraine nodded and hummed softly. Then, she suddenly remembered something and blinked her big eyes, asking, “Dad, where’s the pretty mommy you found for me?”

Matthew was momentarily stunned before realizing she referred to Rachel. “Do you miss her?”

Lorraine nodded. “Yes. Can you bring her with you when you pick me up from school today?”

Seeing the hopeful look in his daughter’s eyes, Matthew couldn’t bear to refuse. “Okay, I promise.”

After brushing Lorraine’s hair, Matthew took her to school.

At the guesthouse, Cosmo clutched his stomach. “Jenny, I’m hungry. Aren’t you hungry?”

Jenny handed him a glass of water. “Drink some water.”

Cosmo frowned. “I already drank three glasses of water. Why don’t we order some takeout?”

Jenny shook her head. “Just bear with it a little longer.”

Then, there was a knock on the door.

Jenny asked, “Who is it?”

“It’s me,” came Matthew’s voice from outside.

Cosmo protested, “He didn’t even say who he was, and you’re going to let him in? Didn’t you say it was dangerous?”

Jenny smiled. “He’s the person who saved your life.”

Cosmo got excited and ran to open the door himself. When he saw Matthew, he didn’t say anything. He just looked at him quietly, as if trying to memorize his face.

Jenny welcomed him in. “Matt, come in quickly.”

Matthew set down the breakfast he had brought. “I’ve thought of a way to get you guys out of danger.”

Jenny’s eyes lit up. All she wanted at that moment was to be free of danger. “What is it?”

Matthew leisurely entered the room, pulled out the forged copy of Medieval Medicine, and handed it to her. “Whoever wants this book, just give it to them.”

This was the solution he devised the night before—give up the root of the problem to live a peaceful life.

Jenny nodded. “Okay, I will.”

Beside her, Cosmo protested, “Jenny, Mom, Dad, and Grandpa all died because of this book. They gave their lives for it! When I was kidnapped, I didn’t say anything about our family having the medical literature. You can’t just give it away!”

Jenny explained, “You don’t understand. This is a fake copy.”

Cosmo stood aside, saying nothing else. He seemed to speak little unless absolutely necessary. Matthew glanced at Cosmo again. The boy was only seven or eight years old, but he was quite tough.

Jenny was staring at Matthew wistfully, and their gazes met for a brief moment. She quickly looked away, choosing to focus on her feet instead.

Matthew smiled. “You two should go home now. There’s no need to hide here anymore.”

In a café, Jeffrey sipped his coffee slowly. Tessa stood beside him, not daring to sit down. Jeffrey had told her to come without stating his purpose. It made her feel uneasy.

The Smith Group had just established a branch in Lambda City, but their power already surpassed that of the Evergreen Group.

Tessa knew she wasn’t on the same level as the Smith Group and wouldn’t even dare to hope for a collaboration. She wasn’t sure why Jeffrey asked her to meet him. Thus, she just waited anxiously.

Jeffrey put down his coffee cup. Seeing how nervous Tessa was, he smiled. “Don’t be nervous. I heard you’re Matthew’s wife?”

Tessa frowned and answered cautiously, “I used to be. We divorced a few days ago.”

The smile disappeared from Jeffrey’s face as he asked coldly, “Do you not hate him? I can help you vent your anger.”

Tessa gritted her teeth, seething with anger at the mention of Matthew’s name. He refused to help her despite having ten billion dollars, showing not the slightest regard for their time together. Still, she couldn’t understand why the heir of the Smith Group would want to help her. It was unusual.

“Why would you help me?”

Jeffrey replied coldly, “My reasons are none of your concern. All you need to know is that I can help you.”

Tessa thought of her financial troubles. “What I need most right now is financial support for my company. You…” She wanted to ask if he could help with that.
