Listen to this chapter:

Rachel knew Matthew had a criminal record; police involvement would quickly escalate the situation. Deep down, she blamed his impulsiveness, but that was a concern for later. Hurriedly stepping forward, she stopped the security guards. "Don't call the police," she said. "Let's get him treated first, and we'll compensate for the damages. Let's discuss this privately."

Matthew intervened. "Rachel, let them call the police."

Stunned, Rachel watched him fan the flames she was trying to extinguish. Furious, she glared. "Can you stop talking?"

Mike, too, was confused by Matthew's insistence. The guard who had dialed 911 hesitated, unsure what to say next.

Matthew continued, "After calling the police, notify Lambda News. Let them interview everyone. Tell them Mike said he'd renounce his PhD if I revived the patient. I did revive him, yet he's still clinging to his title. Let the media judge his broken word. Let them also note that a doctor with a PhD is less skilled than someone who hasn't even been to medical school. What use is a doctor like him?"

Rachel suddenly understood Matthew's strategy, stepping back silently. The doctors and guards turned their gazes to Mike, a strange look in their eyes. He felt a chill; the potential consequences—ruined reputation—sent a shiver down his spine. Such a scandalous story would quickly spread nationwide.

Seeing the guard still talking to the police, providing the address, Mike quickly snatched the phone. "I'm the doctor who was attacked," he said. "It's nothing serious; I don't blame him. We'll handle it privately. Thank you. Goodbye."

Facing a lifetime of disgrace versus temporary physical pain, he knew which was worse.

Rachel breathed a sigh of relief; the situation hadn't escalated further. Seeing this, Matthew pulled out his phone. "If you don't call the police, I will."

Was he crazy? Things had just calmed down; Rachel was baffled by his actions. The doctors and guards were equally astonished.

Seeing Matthew dialing, Mike grabbed his hand, pleading, "Please don't call the police. It's all my fault. My medical skills aren't as good as yours. I apologize. I've refunded the money and asked for the article to be retracted, but the reporter refused. You can talk to him if you want. His name is Evan Whitaker, from Lambda News."

Rachel noted the important information: Mike agreed to retract the false statements, but Evan wouldn't retract the article. Matthew had accomplished something. Compared to her and Tracy, who had achieved nothing but frustration, Matthew had gotten Mike to retract his statements and apologize after a beating, without taking any responsibility. In comparison, she and Tracy seemed useless. She felt guilty for scolding him.

Matthew was satisfied; Mike had provided useful information—Evan Whitaker, a Lambda News reporter. "Good. You know what you're doing," he said. After nodding to Rachel, they left together.

Mike, still uneasy, followed them out. "Let me see you off," he said. He trotted after them, covering his beaten face. "Please, Dr. Grant, don't let the media know about this. I'm begging you!"

Tracy, by the elevator, felt even more furious. Thinking that Matthew had caused trouble and Rachel had to clean up his mess made her angrier. After waiting so long without seeing them, she texted Rachel. Just as she found Rachel's number, she saw Matthew, followed by the badly beaten Mike, who repeatedly pleaded, "I'm sorry for what happened today. Please don't hold it against me. Please…"
