This kind of private specialization was impossible to obtain, especially for Byron.

Maeve wanted to ask something but hesitated, remembering her hospital conversation. Without solid evidence, Byron would believe Karen, not her. This thought extinguished the joy in her heart. She lowered her eyes and followed Byron, lost in thought.

Suddenly, a butler's greeting brought her back to reality. The villa was quiet; only an elderly butler in a black suit, bow tie, and pocket watch waited at the door. Maeve was surprised. Byron noticed and raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"

"It'sโ€ฆ" Maeve leaned closer, whispering, "A villa this size usually has two butlers and at least ten maids. When you arrive, they should bow and welcome you with smiles." She glanced at the butler, who wore a kind smile. "Then, when the butler sees you with a woman, he'd say, 'Sir, you've never brought a woman home before!' or 'Sir, I've never seen you so happy!' Something like that." Byron's lips twitched. The butler's face tensed; he'd never had to deliver such lines at the Butler Academy. He feared his career was over.

"You watch too many television dramas," Byron said, a hint of helplessness in his voice. "The noise they'd make every time I arrive home exhausts me." He preferred peace and quiet. Maeve understood, but was still shocked. "You only have one butler for this house?"

"Mr. McDaniel prefers peace and quiet," the butler explained. "He doesn't like visitors unless it's urgent. You won't see outsiders here." Maeve nodded, then asked, "So he can conduct illegal activities?"

Byron's lips curved into a thin smile. "Regarding bringing a woman home, my mother and Karen live here. That situation won't happen."

Maeve didn't understand why Byron brought her to Karen's residence. She suspected he was lying, but lacked evidence. Is he planning to hang me from the ceiling to illuminate their love? she thought sarcastically.

Rolling her eyes, she said childishly, "But you brought me here! What if Karen gets angry? She has a terrible temper. My heart would ache if you got hurt!"

The butler nearly laughed; he thought Byron had brought home a clown. Byron, however, was captivated by Maeve's childishness and missed the sarcasm. He felt a jolt of something akin to electricity, his back stiffening. Clearing his throat, his low voice deepened. "Maeve, please speak properly."

Her ears tingled, and heat flushed her cheeks. She mumbled something unintelligible. Byron frowned, grabbed her wrist, and led her to the master bedroom elevator. Seeing him remove his jacket and loosen his tie, Maeve's heart skipped a beat. "Why are you taking off your clothes?" Byron glanced at her. "To sleep."

Sleep? Is he trying to sleep with me? Maeve became wary, turning to flee. However, Byron easily wrapped his arms around her waist, pressing her against the bed. He hugged her from behind. "Where are you going?"

"If you want to sleep, then sleep! Why are you hugging me?" Maeve pushed him angrily. "Let go!"

"How can I sleep if you keep moving? Be still!"

Maeve froze, afraid of unintentionally arousing him. After a few minutes, she heard his even breathing. He was asleep. So soon? How tired is he?

Remembering Archer's words in the car, Maeve abandoned her plans to escape. Has he been sleeping lately? Is he tired from reinvestigating my kidnapping?

Byron's actions that day suggested he was reopening the case to help Karen, but that was unnecessary; she was already free. Maeve felt conflicted. Should I believe him?

Meanwhile, Karen stood before a desk, looking grateful. "Thank you for your help, Mr. McDaniel. I don't know how to thank you."

Jason held a newspaper. "You like Byron, correct?"

"Yes, since I was young," Karen admitted.

"You grew up together. You're the most suitable person to be his wife," Jason said. "If his grandfather hadn't insisted on that other woman, our families would have united. Thankfully, we're not too late."

"Mr. McDaniel, what do you mean?"

Jason looked at her sharply. "With my backing, as long as I help you divorce that woman, I'll ensure Byron marries you."

Karen's heart pounded. "But will Byron agree?"

"That depends on your presentation."

"Don't worry, Mr. McDaniel, I won't disappoint you."

Karen left the study, but at the hall, she encountered Alexis's gaze. "Mrs. McDaniel, when did you arrive?"

"Just now." Alexis looked at her. "What did Jason say?"

Karen smiled shyly. "Mr. McDaniel said he wants me to be Byron's wife."

Alexis frowned, discomfort welling up. She suppressed it, reminding Karen, "Byron and Maeve aren't divorced yet."

"I know." Karen smiled, assuming Alexis was concerned. "Don't worry, they'll divorce sooner or later."

"What if they don't?"
