Listen to this chapter:

Karen shot to her feet, violently gripping the window bars. "Nonsense! How could my family go bankrupt?" she cursed angrily. If her family went bankrupt, how would she survive once released?

The reason Karen remained fearless, even in detention, was her absolute confidence that her pampered life would continue. Compared to Neville's confinement, jail was insignificant. But she never imagined the Booth Group's collapse.

Maeve watched silently, her gaze unwavering as Karen broke down. There was no flicker of emotion in her eyes. "What? Is this too much for you to handle? I thought you'd appreciate this gift," she said coolly. After all, she had played a significant role in the Booth Group's downfall.

Karen glared, bloodshot eyes seething. "You bitch! Maeve, you're a complete bitch!"

Maeve remained amused. "It seems you've run out of civil words," she said, rising slowly, a faint smile playing on her lips. "This will be the last time we see each other. So, I'll wish you luck in your future endeavors."

That remark pushed Karen over the edge. She pounded the window, rage burning. "You bastard! You won't get away with this!"

At "bastard," Maeve hesitated, frowning. What did Karen mean? She wanted to ask, but the police restrained Karen. Shrugging, Maeve left. It seemed her parents wouldn't receive final payment from Karen.

Meanwhile, in the McDaniel Group's top-floor office, cold sweat trickled down Archer's forehead after watching the video. He hurried to defend himself. "Mr. McDaniel, on the day Ms. Reese left detention, I was home sick. I didn't go anywhere! I have no witnesses, but my home surveillance can prove it. It might be difficult to retrieve after four years, but please give me time to prove my innocence!"

Archer trembled. No wonder he felt he'd offended Ms. Reese. He was just an employee. How could he falsify an order to force an abortion on the president's wife? Never!

Byron tapped his fountain pen. "You will handle this personally. Two days. I want everything Karen ever did to Maeve."

"Yes, Mr. McDaniel. I'll do my best," Archer responded, straight-faced. "Thank you for this opportunity." Archer had joined the McDaniel Group after graduation, working alongside Byron.

But this was the first time he felt the sting of hot tears. With a less forgiving boss, he'd have lost his job long ago.

Maeve reached the apartment just in time for lunch. Will and Theo debated in the kitchen. Seeing her, they ran over.

"Mommy! Where have you been?" Theo wiggled into her arms. "You left without me!"

Maeve hugged him, his softness melting her stress. "I was running errands, and I bought you snacks."

Will wrinkled his nose at the faint smell of disinfectant. "Mom, were you at the hospital? Are you okay?" "No, no! I'm fine. I just visited someone," Maeve reassured them.

Theo, clinging to her leg, piped up. "Will and I are making lunch! You go rest, Mommy. We'll call you when it's ready!" Maeve started to protest.

"We'll make pasta," Will insisted. "Don't worry about us. Go rest."

Unable to refuse, Maeve kissed their cheeks and retreated.

But they only wanted to send her away. Theo rubbed his chin. "Mommy seems down. Do you think those two are giving her trouble again?"

Will frowned. "Who?"

"Mommy's parents!" Theo exclaimed, launching into a rant about Scott and Valda's misdeeds. He'd heard much from Bonnie and Jaylen. It was enough for Theo to hold a grudge.

Will silently added Maeve's parents to his list.

Theo, about to look up a recipe, gasped. "What's wrong?" Will asked.

Theo handed him the iPad. "Look at this!"

Will stepped back. His usually cold composure faltered. His eyes widened; a cold gleam flashed. People who upset Mom must be punished, he thought.

"I'm not letting them get away with this," Will said coldly. He turned to Theo. "You still have the surveillance footage of Horace committing the crime, right?"

Theo understood. "I'll edit it later, but I can't just post it online. That would only take care of Horace, not the couple." He didn't want to call them "Mommy's parents."

Will grunted. "I'll talk to Dad first. The McDaniel Group's PR department will know how to handle it." Theo had no time to argue with their "Cheap Dad." They had to act quickly.

"I want to go to the hospital," Theo added.

Will frowned. "Did you find something?"

"Not sure yet. The footage is a bit distorted," Theo said.

"We'll go together later," Will said.

They finalized their plan. After lunch, they slipped out, wearing duck-billed hats, while Maeve napped.

Will waited outside the hospital room, his laptop slung over his shoulder, while Theo used his social skills. Pretending to be lost, he ran near Valda's room, causing a stir. Without Scott, Valda grew irritated. Unable to stand the commotion, she got out of bed and chased him away.

"Where did that little troublemaker come from? No discipline at all!" Valda muttered, slamming the door.

Theo flicked his hat. He returned to the stairwell. "Okay, let's do it now."

Will nodded and started working. Theo pulled out chips and started munching, even shoving one into Will's mouth.

Will hesitated but ate it, ignoring his dad's warning.

"Did you find it?" Theo asked softly.

"Yeah, take a look. Here's her medical record, and right below it is her husband's." Will turned the computer.

Scott had a checkup last week; his records were in the archive. Theo's expression darkened. "Will, did you notice anything strange?"
