Chapter 422
Will listened and silently replaced Theo's fried egg with his own. "Dad, you can call me as many times as you want," he said.
Theo gobbled up Will's fried egg in one gulp. "Mmm, it tastes so good!"
Byron said nothing.
After breakfast, Maeve gathered her things and prepared to leave for Yoke Headquarters. Worried about leaving the twins home alone, she asked Byron to take them with him when he went out, or to leave them in Loren's care. He had plenty of free time during the recent holidays, anyway.
Of course, Byron wasn't about to leave his sons with a stranger. He changed their clothes and prepared to take them to the McDaniel Group.
Naturally, Will had no objections. And Theo, eager for an outing, didn't complain.
That day, McDaniel Group employees witnessed an unusual sight: the usually icy Mr. McDaniel, accompanied by two adorable twins in black suits, who trailed behind him everywhere. It was as if Byron had two miniature versions of himself at his side. Even his chilly demeanor seemed to soften.
Theo possessed a remarkably smooth tongue. He called every woman "sis" and every man "bro," regardless of age. His charming demeanor delighted people.
Maeve had packed plenty of snacks and candies in her pocket. Will, the older brother, was more reserved, unfazed by curious glances. His expression remained cool and collected; he already possessed Byron's swagger.
"I'll keep the snacks and candies. You can ask me for them, but don't exceed Mom's daily limit," Will negotiated, preventing Theo from overindulging and developing a toothache. Theo immediately hugged his pockets tightly and shook his head vigorously. "I'll keep them! I won't eat too much!"
Will said softly, "Let me keep them safe. You can have one more chocolate today. Otherwise, Mom might reduce your snacks tomorrow."
Theo considered this. His mother definitely wouldn't believe he could control himself and would use it as an excuse to reduce his treats!
To avoid a reduction in future snacks, Theo reluctantly emptied his pockets into Will's.
Will patted his head and produced a tiny chocolate. "Be good. This is your reward. Remember to brush your teeth afterward." Theo happily accepted the chocolate. "Okay."
A mischievous smile flickered across Byron's eyes as he overheard the twins' loud plotting. 'Is this how they usually interact?' he wondered, surprised.
Suddenly remembering something, Byron asked Will, "Will, didn't you have a cavity?"
Will shook his head.
Byron narrowed his dark eyes, rose from his desk, and examined Theo's mouth. Sure enough, Theo had cavities. "You still have rotten teeth and you're eating all these candies! Are you taking advantage of your mom's soft spot?" Byron furrowed his brow. "No more for you. Hand over all the snacks."
Theo was heartbroken.
Seeing Byron confiscate the snacks from Will's pocket, Theo pouted and almost cried. He might have gotten a treat from Will, but with his stern father, it was hopeless!
A twinkle of amusement shone in Will's bright eyes. He leaned close to his brother and whispered, "I saved one for you. Let's go outside and eat it. Don't tell Dad."
Theo's teary eyes brightened. Overwhelmed, he hugged Will tightly. "Will, you're the best! I love you!"
Byron saw their antics and didn't interfere. He found it rather cute. The boy didn't realize Will had outsmarted him and was actually helping him.
After half an hour, Byron went to a conference room meeting, leaving the twins in the office. The twins, however, weren't waiting for him. Hand in hand, they left.
Byron's earlier show of authority had made an impression. Nobody dared stop them. The secretary, trailing behind to watch them, assumed they were playing a game.
The mischievous twins were simply curious about the office. Unhappy about being followed, they quickly lost the secretary.
"It's me. I've succeeded. Send someone to pick me up... I'll go down immediately. If needed, I can use sneaky ways to get out." Scattered voices drifted from the corridor. The hushed tone was unusual for the quiet floor.
Seeing a figure about to turn the corner, Will frowned. He pulled Theo under a nearby cart.
"Is that guy up to no good?" Theo whispered, his eyes wide. "Sounds like a corporate spy!" He was excited.
Will nodded. Hearing approaching footsteps, he held Theo's hand and held his breath. Luckily, they were small and the cart was full. The man didn't see them.
Will craned his neck and saw the man brush against his backpack. His expression changed. He mouthed to Theo, "He has a gun."
'Holy shit! We can't let him get away!' Will thought.
Unfortunately, they didn't have their phones, and Byron was in a meeting.
Theo pulled Will's sleeve and produced a fountain pen. Will looked at him questioningly.
Theo gestured for him to watch. He crouched, removed the cap, aimed at the man's heel, and spun the top. A yellow bead shot out, marking the man's heel. After the man entered an elevator, the twins dashed into the adjacent elevator and headed downstairs.
On the first floor, they spotted the marked man leaving. They scurried toward him.
Theo bumped into the man's leg and tumbled, crying "ouch!" The man, tense and startled, relaxed upon seeing a child.
He crouched to help Theo up. Theo, with an innocent smile, said, "Sir, you hurt me. I need to rub it."
