Chapter 440

"What's the difference?" Maeve sensed a hidden meaning in his words. She started to question him further, but the doctor knocked and entered, interrupting her. She swallowed her doubts and submitted to the examination. Unexpectedly, it was a psychiatrist. Maeve's body trembled slightly as she nervously clutched the blanket.

Byron stood up, about to approach, when his phone illuminated. He checked a message; a flicker of understanding crossed his dark eyes.

[Continue to observe and report at any time.] [Yes.]

In the top-floor ward, Theo handed Wren's maid the prescription, carefully explaining its use.

Wren's gentle eyes, filled with curiosity, studied the twins. They looked alike, yet possessed different personalities. "You're so smart," she said. "Your parents must be excellent, too." Even young princes and princesses in the palace, with their elite educations, might not possess such outstanding abilities at this age.

Theo agreed. "My mommy is a super-talented, beautiful woman. That's why she gave birth to smart and cute babies like us." While praising his mother, he didn't forget to boast.

Will blushed slightly. His comment about their mother was true, but the last sentence felt a bit narcissistic.

Wren was amused. She felt a flicker of curiosity about their mother, but not enough to seek a meeting.

The twins, sensing Wren's low spirits, didn't linger.

Entering the elevator, they saw a tall man exiting the adjacent elevator and heading toward the ward. He even glanced into their elevator as the doors closed. The twins exchanged a look. 'Why is he here? Does he know Princess Wren?'

They had inherited their father's scheming genes and tended to overthink. This was no exception.

Theo and Will returned to the downstairs ward, confused. They sensed their mother's low mood in their father's absence.

Seeing her children return, Maeve suppressed her unease and smiled. "How is it? Is Princess Wren alright?"

Theo grinned. "She's the same, but as long as she follows my prescription, her physical pain will be cured."

"That's good," Maeve replied faintly.

Seeing his mother's low spirits, Will swallowed his words, gently hugging her waist and rubbing her head affectionately. "Will, you're so cunning!" Theo, not to be outdone, hugged Maeve's other arm.

Their small bodies nestled tightly against Maeve's sides.

Maeve's mood brightened instantly. She hugged them happily, kissing their chubby cheeks.

Chapter 440

That night, Maeve returned from the hospital to the villa, its exterior covered in pink and yellow roses. A sense of peace and relaxation washed over her. Anywhere was better than the hospital.

It would be better still if Byron would show her the psychiatrist's diagnosis. However, he claimed knowing too much would hinder her recovery and, before her eyes, placed it in a safe. Maeve noticed a pile of raw diamonds inside, some glittering brilliantly. Her diagnosis rested on top, treated like the priceless gems. Yet, it was just a piece of paper. As Byron locked the safe and descended the stairs, Maeve followed, grabbing his shirt. "Tell me," she asked, "can my fear of sharp objects be cured?"

Byron's thin lips pursed imperceptibly. He hummed. "Yes, it won't be long."

Relief washed over Maeve. She feared this phobia would be incurable, preventing her from using scissors to design clothes or even cooking.

Dinner was prepared by Byron and the twins. He even kept Maeve from the kitchen to prevent her from approaching knives.

Though she knew they acted for her benefit, Maeve felt a hollowness, a sense of being less needed in the family.

After dinner, Byron went upstairs to his study for an online meeting. Maeve took the children for a walk around the villa. It was a safe neighborhood, but her recent kidnapping made her cautious. Soon, she saw a man at the door, ringing the doorbell.

"Hello, what's the matter?" Maeve asked, confused.

Upon seeing her with Will and Theo, the man's elegant smile broadened. "Hello, my name is Connor Elliott. I live next door. I'm here to express my gratitude."

Will reminded his mother that this was their afternoon visitor.

Maeve nodded and chatted with him amiably.

Connor sought help with a medical diet. His wife, though able to eat similar medicinal dishes, still felt nauseous with this particular meal.

Connor discovered the problem lay with the dish itself. The doctor examining the leftovers found it contained the essence of over ten medicinal herbs, beneficial yet complex. The doctor couldn't determine the specifics or its preparation method.

Connor, seeking help, brought a small box of consultation fees.

Understanding his intent, Maeve smiled gently. "You're mistaken. My children prepared today's lunch. You must ask them."

Connor was shocked. 'What? That's impossible!' Yet, Maeve seemed serious. Despite his disbelief, he humbly asked the twins.

Theo hesitated. He needed to care for his mother. How could he help?

Will whispered in his ear, "Mommy doesn't have much jewelry. The jade he brought could make several sets."

Theo's eyes lit up. He puffed out his chest. "Alright, we'll help. But you must do as we say, or it's not happening."

This wasn't just a matter of trusting children. They'd seen many patients ignore treatment plans, worsening their conditions. Connor immediately agreed.

In the palace, after a day of arduous chores, Fiora gritted her teeth, cursing Maeve in her heart. If not for that commoner, she wouldn't have been punished by her uncle.
