Chapter 503
A knock echoed through the ward. Dylan cautiously opened the door to reveal a stunning woman and two adorable twins.
"Can I help you?" Dylan asked.
"Is the gentleman inside awake? We're here to see him," Maeve replied politely.
Alexis, hearing her, called out, "Dylan, let them in!"
Dylan was stunned. "Please?" he muttered, surprised by Alexis's uncharacteristic politeness.
Maeve and the twins entered, finding Alexis bandaged from head to toe. He looked both miserable and comical.
"How are you feeling, sir?" Maeve asked.
"Fine, thank you," Alexis began, then winced as a small hand pressed his abdomen. He coughed, "Abdominal hemoptysis. It's serious."
Theo, the child, retracted his hand. "I'll write a prescription. You'll be discharged after a week."
Alexis stared, bewildered. "What?" he exclaimed. "You're a child! How...?"
Theo puffed out his chest. "Don't you believe me? You took my pill before. That's why the bleeding's lighter."
Alexis was stunned. The doctor had said his injuries were less severe than they appeared. He'd suspected the pill, but never imagined a child made it.
Dylan chuckled, "Kid, you're funny. How old are you? Can you even read?"
Dylan's suspicion flared. This kid's too adult-like. Have his parents discovered Alexis's identity? The recent kidnapping made him wary.
Will, seeing Dylan's mockery, retorted, "Sir, my brother can read. He knows more than the hair on your head." Dylan, balding, was speechless.
My hair did nothing wrong! he thought.
Maeve burst out laughing, Alexis joining in. He turned to Theo, "Kid, how do you know all this?"
Theo lifted his chin. "I'm educated by the Resurrection Sect. I'm Ezra's last disciple. My master... my mommy taught me."
Alexis and Dylan's expressions changed at the mention of the "Resurrection Sect." Its disciples were medical geniuses.
Dylan's excitement was palpable. "You're a Resurrection Sect disciple? Can you really cure him in a week?"
Theo, hands behind his back, looked like a round penguin pretending to be a sage. "I could have," he said in a cute voice.
"Why not now?" Alexis asked.
Theo pointed at Dylan. "He provoked me. I won't treat him."
Dylan's face fell. "Kid, I apologize. I was wrong. Please, don't hold it against me."
Dylan remembered his candy and offered it. "This is my apology. If you cure him, I'll buy you better candy."
Theo's eyes lit up. He grabbed the candy and stuffed it in his mouth. His cheeks bulged.
Maeve hid her face. Will sighed, "Theo's too easily bribed."
Alexis found Theo hilarious. His spirits lifted. He'd never met such a child.
Theo examined Alexis and wrote a prescription. "Your body's like a sieve. You need to patch the leaks. No smoking, drinking, coffee, or stimulants. I'll adjust the prescription in a week."
Alexis smiled. "Thank you. I'll visit when I'm better."
Theo waved dismissively. "We fought for our lives together. You don't owe us anything."
Maeve nodded. "He's right. Just rest."
"I'm Alexis Soar," Alexis stated. "And you are...?"
Maeve introduced herself and the twins. Alexis found their names adorable. He felt a strange pull towards them.
After they left, Dylan mused, "Alexis, Ms. Reese is almost as handsome as you, and the twins are like fairies! Maybe they're interested in the entertainment industry..."
"Don't even think about it," Alexis interrupted. "They're not ordinary people." The McDaniel Group owner had been involved in their encounter yesterday. Maeve, Will and Theo's identities were obvious, it turns out.
Dylan suddenly exclaimed, "Alexis, Ms. Reese resembles your uncle!"
