Listen to this chapter:

Bonnie pulled Maeve to a round table and introduced her to Karen Booth, saying, "Maeve, this is Karen Booth." Maeve was stunned. The woman sitting beside Bonnie was Karen, wearing a black, off-the-shoulder dress.

"Ms. Reese, it's been a while," Karen said, smiling gracefully.

Surprised, Maeve nodded slightly. "Ms. Booth, it's been a while."

Bonnie looked at them, surprised. "You two know each other?"

"We've only met a few times," Maeve explained.

Karen smiled meaningfully. "It's nice to see Ms. Reese. I heard from Ms. Hancock that you two are very good friends."

Bonnie nodded vigorously. "That's right. Maeve's my best friend."

Maeve felt amused and annoyed. "Yes, I am."

Karen's smile widened. "Ms. Hancock is more approachable than I thought," she said. "She can be best friends with a maid. Many here wouldn't measure up." The eavesdropping socialites' expressions changed when they heard "maid." They thought, How can Hancock Group's heiress's friend be a maid? She has no right to be here. They didn't chase Maeve away out of respect for Bonnie, but their disdain was evident.

Maeve knew Karen was being sarcastic. She said, "Ms. Booth, say what you mean directly." She's beating around the bush, Maeve thought. I feel sorry for her.

Karen smiled, covering her mouth. "I'm just expressing my thoughts. Ms. Reese, don't misunderstand. I prepared a surprise for Ms. Hancock. Let's appreciate it together." She gestured toward a hovering screen.

Maeve frowned, sensing something was wrong. Bonnie whispered to Maeve, "What about that maid? She's not talking about you, is she? Something feels off."

Before Maeve could answer, the socialites gasped. "Why is that video playing?"

Maeve looked up. Seeing a blurry video of herself and Byron kissing, she was shocked and stood up. Although blurry, she recognized herself and Byron. Did Karen record this? she wondered.

Karen looked at Bonnie. "Ms. Hancock—or should I say Mrs. McDaniel? Everyone may not know yet. Ms. Hancock is Mr. McDaniel's wife, and Maeve, beside her, is his maid."

The socialites were shocked. They thought, There's only one Mr. McDaniel: Byron, the heir! We heard he's under pressure to marry. They envied Bonnie. They coveted Byron, not only for his powerful family but also for his youth, good looks, and business acumen. Countless socialites in Kleymond wanted to be Mrs. McDaniel. He's already married, and his wife is Bonnie? they thought. So, that's the couple kissing?

Bonnie choked on her cake, turning pale. Karen stood behind her, supporting her shoulders. "Ladies, see how well Mrs. McDaniel treats this maid, considering her a best friend. But how does the maid treat her? She seduced Mr. McDaniel privately and publicly... Mrs. McDaniel, I'm so sorry for you."

The socialites thought, The maid in the video is kissing Mr. McDaniel? They looked at Maeve with disgust. They despised women who seduced married men.

"Get out!" an heiress hissed. "We don't welcome people like you here."

"Oh my god, so disgusting! Ms. Han—Mrs. McDaniel is so kind, and she seduced her husband?" "She must have seduced him many times! She's a b*h!" "I'm sitting with her? I need a shower!"

Karen's eyes gleamed with amusement. I want everyone to know what Maeve did, she thought. I want to ruin her. I want her to never work in this circle again. This b*h deserves it.

Maeve, unfazed by the insults, chuckled. "Ms. Booth, I thought your relationship with Mr. McDaniel was close. So-so, it seems."

Karen frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Aren't you trying to drive me away from Mr. McDaniel?" Maeve mocked. "Using Bonnie to hurt me? If you were so close to him, why go to such lengths?" Karen's face fell.

"You're wrong about one thing," Maeve said indifferently. "Bonnie isn't Mr. McDaniel's wife. I am."

Karen scoffed. "You? Look in the mirror! Mrs. McDaniel is right there! Who are you fooling?" She pointed at Bonnie.

Bonnie finally swallowed her cake, stood up abruptly, and pounded her chest. "I thought you liked otome games! You used me against Maeve?"

Karen said, "Mrs. McDaniel, please let me explain…"

"Mrs. McDaniel, my a!" Bonnie yelled. "I've been single for twenty years! And the man kissing Maeve is her husband! It's none of your business! You accused Maeve of seducing someone else's husband?"

Karen was shocked. "N-no way. She's just a maid."

Maeve laughed. "Ms. Booth, I've told you many times I'm not a maid." She doesn't believe me because I'm close to Byron, Maeve thought. It's easier for her to believe I'm a maid.

Bonnie nodded. "Maeve's a designer. Even if things were tough, she could freelance. Why would she be a maid? If I hadn't choked, I would have scolded you. You're the one trying to seduce someone's husband. You recorded that video to use us against Maeve, didn't you?"
