Chapter 108: A Token of Thanks
Sierra thanked Oscar again, having prepared a small gift for him. โDr. Zahn, I really appreciate what you did. I hope you donโt mind this small gift.โ
Sierra slid the gift across the table towards Oscar, who gave a wry smile. โI already told you, it was nothing. You donโt have to be so formal.โ Even as he said that, he still accepted it. He could tell Sierra didnโt like owing people favors. Sure enough, the moment he took the gift, she visibly relaxed.
Oscar had briefly considered refusing the gift, but Sierraโs attitude made it clear she wanted him to take it. The conversation soon shifted to Lilyโs health, and Sierra also asked about therapists, figuring Oscar might have some recommendations.
โI have a former classmate who specializes in psychology. I can give you her contact informationโyou can reach out if you need advice. Is this about Dickson?โ Oscar asked, sensing the reason behind her question.
โYeah,โ Sierra didnโt hide it, simply explaining that Dickson had been struggling lately. On the surface, he seemed fine, but mentally, he was still struggling. He wouldnโt leave the house, only calling Lily, and he refused to go anywhere near a hospital.
โIโm not a psychologist, but I do know that recovery takes time. If he trusts you, just being there for him will help more than anything.โ
โI understand. Thank you, Dr. Zahn.โ Sierraโs gratitude was sincere. She had been spending as much time with Dickson as possible, afraid he might do something reckless again. As they ate, their conversation flowed naturally, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
Not far away, Jonathan watched the scene unfold, his brows slightly furrowing. He didnโt like Oscar. He wasnโt sure why, but something about the man irritated him. And now, watching Sierra chat and laugh with him? It was even more frustrating. What makes an average doctor good enough for Sierra? She really has terrible taste.
Jonathan was just about to walk over when someone else got to them first, interrupting the peaceful moment. โSierra, what a coincidence.โ The voice belonged to Kason, who was clearly trying to come off as sophisticated, but it didnโt suit him one bit.
Sierra was caught slightly off guard. โMr. Kason? What are you doing here?โ
โJust checking on feedback for a new medication we launched.โ Kasonโs focus was entirely on Sierra. He didnโt even glance at Oscar.
โBy the way, what happened the other day? Our call suddenly dropped, and when I tried to reach you, you never answered.โ
The moment Kason brought it up, Sierraโs expression turned slightly cold. โSomething came up. A friend of mine got into trouble, and I was going to ask for your help. But in the end, it was handled, so I didnโt bother.โ
Kason, however, didnโt seem surprised at all. It was clear he already knew. Sierraโs fingers unconsciously curled slightly as she recalled Jonathanโs words.
Chapter 105: A Token of Thanks
The thought made her want to smash a glass bottle over Kasonโs head. Yet, completely unaware of her thoughts, Kason casually extended an invitation. โAre you free tomorrow?โ
Sierra thought for a moment before replying. โTomorrow wonโt work. How about the weekend?โ She was interested to see what kind of โsurpriseโ Kason had planned for her this time.
After finishing lunch with Oscar, Sierra contacted the psychologist he recommended. Fortunately, she was available, so Sierra decided to meet her in person. The psychologist, Abigail Hill, was Oscarโs former classmate. Oscar had already given her a brief overview, but Sierra provided a more detailed account of Dicksonโs condition.
As she listened, Abigail frowned slightly. โHis situation is quite complicated. Experiencing repeated trauma can leave deep psychological scars. Based on what youโve told me, heโs already showing signs of social withdrawal and mood instability.โ
Hearing this, Sierraโs worry deepened. โThen Iโll bring him in tomorrow. Dr. Abigail, would that be okay?โ
Abigail thought for a moment before shaking her head. โGiven his current state, I wouldnโt recommend forcing him to leave the house just yet. It sounds like he feels a strong sense of security at home and trusts you. Suddenly bringing him to an unfamiliar environment might trigger resistance or distress. If youโre comfortable with it, Iโd suggest doing the sessions at your place instead.โ
Sierra hadnโt expected Abigail to offer house visits, but she quickly nodded. โThat would be great. I really appreciate it, Dr. Abigail.โ
Abigail smiled. โA patientโs health always comes first. Our job is to provide the best care while ensuring their comfort and convenience. Since Oscar referred you to me, I genuinely hope I can help.โ
