Chapter 152: A Pawn in Her Game
As Sierra examined the tiny diamond studs, she was mildly surprised that such small accessories could possess so many intricate functions. Seeing her interest, Jonathan spoke up. โA friend of mine specializes in these. If you need more, I can get you some.โ Sierra nodded and accepted without hesitation. She wasnโt reckless; anything that ensured her safety was always welcome.
Saturday arrived swiftly. Jonathan wore a grim expression the entire day, and Mateo was growing increasingly frustrated. Had he known this would happen, he would have followed Maddox and made his escape. Just as he was about to speak, Jonathan raised a hand, cutting him off. Kason and Sierra had already met.
โYou look stunning today,โ Kason remarked, his eyes fixed on Sierra. He noticed she had taken the time to dress up, and his gaze landed on the diamond studs in her ears. It was the first time he had ever seen her wearing earrings. Realizing where his eyes lingered, Sierra asked nonchalantly, โDo they look good? Jonathan gave them to me.โ
Hearing her mention Jonathan so casually, Kason froze for a moment before chuckling, though irritation flickered beneath his amusement. โSierra, what exactly are you implying?โ
โI thought we had an understanding.โ
Kasonโs anger barely remained concealed. It had been a long time since someone had dared to toy with him. Noticing his growing frustration, Sierra remained utterly unfazed. Instead, she curved her lips into a smile. โDoesnโt this make things more thrilling?โ
Jonathan, standing at a distance, could hear their conversation perfectly, and naturally, so could Mateo. His eyes widened in shock. Did I really just hear that? Was Jonathan nothing more than a pawn in Sierraโs game? Now thatโs something. No wonder heโs drawn to her.
Mateo instinctively turned to look at Jonathan, expecting to see rage on his face. But there was none. His expression remained composed, devoid of any visible anger. Mateo was bewildered. He is not even mad?
On the other hand, Kason was momentarily stunned by Sierraโs words before finally understanding her implication. โSo this is the kind of game you enjoy!โ
โNot exactly,โ Sierra replied indifferently. โBut heโs useful to me right now. My experiment has run into complications, and with his help, things will go much more smoothly.โ
โYou could have come to me instead,โ Kason said, unwilling to concede. Sierra lifted her gaze to meet his, saying nothing, yet the contempt in her eyes was undeniable.
Kason let out a sharp laugh, both irked and amused. โWhatโs wrong? Do you think Iโm not capable?โ
Sierra scoffed internally but spoke with mild impatience. โKason, I always believed we were the same kind of people. So donโt get caught up in petty matters.โ She let out a cool laugh. โJust like I donโt care how many women youโve had, because none of it is worth acknowledging.โ
Kasonโs heart wavered, and the way he looked at Sierra shifted subtly. She really is different.
And though her logic made sense, he still felt dissatisfied. I havenโt even had a taste of Sierra yet, why should another man get there first? With that thought, he spoke bluntly, โI can let it slide. But donโt you think youโre being a little too distant from me?โ
His implication was unmistakable. Sierra understood immediately, and disgust flashed across her face. She didnโt bother to mask it, even tilting her head in feigned confusion. โAre you seriously going to wither away if you donโt get laid? Once the clothes are off and the lights are out, doesnโt it all feel the same? After all these years, arenโt you sick of it?โ
Kason choked on his words, while Mateo, listening in, gaped in disbelief. Dmn, this girl really says whatever she wants. He turned to Jonathan again, expecting a reaction, but to his shock, Jonathan wasnโt the least bit upset. In fact, there was amusement dancing in his eyes. Theyโre all lunatics. That was the only conclusion Mateo could reach.
Across from Sierra, Kason snapped out of his daze. He couldnโt help but blurt out, โHow could they ever compare to you?โ She really was the most intriguing woman he had ever encountered.
Sierra, growing impatient, said flatly, โMaybe when Iโm in the mood. Just hope you can handle it when the time comes.โ Kasonโs intrigue only deepened. He licked his lips and said, โDonโt worry. I wonโt disappoint you.โ
Sierra averted her gaze, avoiding his eyes to prevent her real emotions from slipping through. She reached up and lightly brushed her earring. Jonathan had informed her that doing so would activate the recording function. Then, in a languid tone, she asked, โDidnโt you say there was something planned for today?โ
Kasonโs eyes flickered, and he shook his head. โNot anymore. Brendanโs in trouble. Did you hear?โ
Sierra nodded. โYes.โ
