Chapter 389 Narrow Escape
Following behind them, Joseโs expression suddenly changed.
Not dead?
How could Johnathan still be alive?
Didnโt they say he crashed into a freight truck?
At that speed, even the best car would be totaled โ so why was he still breathing?
Jose didnโt even realize how twisted his expression had become.
Susie, overjoyed, was just about to share the good news with her son when she saw the look on his face.
That wasnโt the face of someone relieved. It wasnโt the expression a younger brother should have after hearing his older brother had survived.
Susieโs heart dropped sharply, her face turning pale.
Chase didnโt notice Joseโs reaction. Seeing his wifeโs sudden change in expression, he asked in concern, โWhatโs wrong?โ
Snapping out of it, Susie forced a smile. โNothing, Iโm just really happy.โ
Chase patted her hand and didnโt suspect anything. He felt the same way.
Though Johnathan was out of danger, he had been transferred to the ICU. No one was allowed in, so Sierra and the others could only wait outside.
Sierra stood by the window, peering in at Johnathan through the glass.
He lay motionless, still under anesthesia. His body was covered in injuries, and Sierraโs heart ached just looking at him.
Mateo and the others had wanted to convince her to go rest, but seeing her like this, they couldnโt bring themselves to say anything.
Once Wayne heard Johnathan was stable, he didnโt stay much longer. At his age, he was already pushing his limits.
As he left, he cast a complicated glance at Sierra and sighed quietly.
Chase and Susie also left soon after, leaving Sierra and Mateo behind. Stone and the others had gone to investigate what had happened. They wanted to do their part.
Johnathan was a close friend. Anyone who dared touch him had made enemies of them too.
Mateo had food sent over and quickly urged, โSierra, eat something.โ
Sierra didnโt refuse. She had regained her composure.
She knew she couldnโt collapse. For a long while to come, Johnathan would need her to take care of him.
Mateo had expected to have to talk her into it, but to his surprise, she had already calmed down. He looked at her with admiration. โSierra, youโre incredible.โ
Johnathanโs accident had shaken even them. But Sierra had managed to steady herself this quickly.
โAs long as heโs okay, nothing else matters,โ Sierra said softly.
After eating a little, she added, โIf you find out anything, please let me know right away.โ
โDonโt worry, Sierra. Whoever had the guts to go after Johnathan was asking for it.โ Mateoโs usual playful manner was gone. His tone was cold and sharp.
Talking with Mateo helped ease her nerves a little more. Sierra glanced at the ICU again. Johnathan still hadnโt woken up.
โDonโt worry, itโs just the anesthesia,โ Mateo reassured her.
Sierra nodded, then brought up Quinn. โIs there any security footage? I want to see it.โ
Mateo immediately pulled up the clip of Quinn escaping. โHere. Watch this part.โ
The nurse who entered had a similar build to Quinn, so it wasnโt obvious to anyone else what had happened.
Suddenly thinking of something, Sierraโs expression changed. โWhereโs Dora? What about her-?โ
Mateo quickly said, โDonโt worry. Once we realized Quinn had escaped, we arranged protection for Dora right away.โ
They had also hoped to use it as a chance to recapture Quinn. But she was slippery โ only this short clip remained, and after that, she vanished.
Whatโs more, she hadnโt even tried to contact Dora again. It was cold-hearted โ far beyond what theyโd expected.
Then Sierra suddenly thought of something and muttered, โWhy didnโt I think to check their DNA?โ
Maybe Dora wasnโt Quinnโs daughter at all. Maybe she was just a decoy.
The lab at the school had samples of both their blood. Sierra called Autumn and asked her to verify whether they were actually related.
After handling everything, Sierra looked back up โ and froze.
Johnathan had opened his eyes.
She rushed to the glass, calling his name.
โJohnathan!โ
