Chapter 413 The Line That Was Crossed

โ€œDid you notice something wrong?โ€ Sierra hadnโ€™t dared to ask earlier.

โ€œSomeoneโ€™s been inside,โ€ Johnathan replied crisply.

Heโ€™d set up a small security mechanism by the doorโ€“something even Sierra didnโ€™t know about. Just now, heโ€™d spotted a slight disturbance. That was all it took.

If it had just been him, maybe he wouldnโ€™t have cared. But with Sierra thereโ€“he wasnโ€™t willing to gamble.

It was a while before Mateo and Stone returned from checking the apartment. Their expressions were grim. Mateo opened his hands, revealing the problem. โ€œThere were several hidden cameras installed.โ€

If he hadnโ€™t been an expert, he might have missed them entirely. Stone had initially found nothing, and only when Mateo pulled out his most advanced detection device were they located.

โ€œThese are cutting edge,โ€ Mateo said, frowning. โ€œEven more advanced than the models Iโ€™ve developed.โ€

Johnathanโ€™s face darkened.

Mateo might act unhinged most of the time, but when it came to electronics, he was at the top of the field. If this tech surpassed his latest prototypes, then the people behind it were no small operation.

Mateo was visibly rattled, his pride bruised. โ€œIโ€™m locking myself in the lab tomorrow. I will make something better.โ€

But Stone brought them back to the point. โ€œNowโ€™s not the time. Whatโ€™s the plan?โ€

This place was clearly compromised. Even Stone felt uncomfortable staying there now.

โ€œWeโ€™ll move to Garden Compound,โ€ Johnathan decided.

It was one of his other properties, famous for its securityโ€“one of the best in Capital City.

Stone and Mateo personally escorted Johnathan and Sierra there. After a full sweep and clearing of the premises, they left the two alone.

Before departing, Stone promised to start tracing the intrusion. But everyone knew the odds of finding anything were slim.

The place was new to Sierra. It was spacious, and she only tidied up the master bedroom. For now, it was enough to rest.

โ€œScared?โ€ Johnathan asked.

He had dealt with things like this beforeโ€”but this was Sierraโ€™s first time.

Sierra shook her head. โ€œNot scaredโ€ฆ just tense.โ€

โ€œWas it someone from the group behind Quinn?โ€

โ€œMost likely,โ€ Johnathan said.

Theyโ€™d clearly been targeted since Quinn had come into the picture.

โ€œIf nothing comes from the symposium, Iโ€™ll go visit Quinn myself.โ€

โ€œBut her conditionโ€“โ€

โ€œShe may not be able to give us anything,โ€ Sierra said. Quinn had spiraled into madness. She was under heavy watch. Medical experts were attempting to repair her nervous systemโ€“but with todayโ€™s technology, that was basically impossible.

โ€œI need to see her with my own eyes,โ€ Johnathan said.

He wasnโ€™t convinced yet. Quinn had always been good at pretending. This could be another trick.

Just as they were preparing to settle down for the night, Johnathanโ€™s phone rang. It was Wayne.

The moment the call connected, his grandfatherโ€™s voice came through, low and sharp. โ€œWas the intrusion meant for youโ€“or for the person beside you?โ€

Johnathan wasnโ€™t surprised heโ€™d heard about it so fast. Wayne had been busy these daysโ€”digging up everything he could. And the more he found, the angrier he got.

Johnathan wasnโ€™t just anyone. He was the Wynn familyโ€™s eldest grandson, the next in line for the patriarchal seat. And yetโ€“someone dared target him?

Wayne hadnโ€™t just been sitting idle. Heโ€™d been running parallel investigations into the same organization. Thatโ€™s why the authorities had given Quinnโ€™s case so much attentionโ€“it had become a full-scale priority.

But so far, nothing solid had surfaced. The organization was slippery, cautious. Every time a lead popped up, it vanished almost immediately. They rotated personnel, switched identities, erased trails. Impossible to trace.

The scale and sophistication suggested deep financial backing. And that raised red flags all the way to the top.

What little they had exposed so far only hinted at drug research. But if that was what they let be discoveredโ€“what else were they hiding?

This was no longer just about Johnathan or Sierra. This was a national concern.

So when Wayne got the news that someone had broken into Johnathanโ€™s home, he called immediately.

โ€œCome stay at the ancestral estate.โ€

His tone left no room for negotiation.

The Wynn familyโ€™s old estate had top-tier securityโ€“on par with classified government facilities. Possibly even safer.

Wayne knew how stubborn his grandson could be. After a brief pause, he added-

โ€œBring her with you.โ€
