Chapter 413 The Line That Was Crossed
โDid you notice something wrong?โ Sierra hadnโt dared to ask earlier.
โSomeoneโs been inside,โ Johnathan replied crisply.
Heโd set up a small security mechanism by the doorโsomething even Sierra didnโt know about. Just now, heโd spotted a slight disturbance. That was all it took.
If it had just been him, maybe he wouldnโt have cared. But with Sierra thereโhe wasnโt willing to gamble.
It was a while before Mateo and Stone returned from checking the apartment. Their expressions were grim. Mateo opened his hands, revealing the problem. โThere were several hidden cameras installed.โ
If he hadnโt been an expert, he might have missed them entirely. Stone had initially found nothing, and only when Mateo pulled out his most advanced detection device were they located.
โThese are cutting edge,โ Mateo said, frowning. โEven more advanced than the models Iโve developed.โ
Johnathanโs face darkened.
Mateo might act unhinged most of the time, but when it came to electronics, he was at the top of the field. If this tech surpassed his latest prototypes, then the people behind it were no small operation.
Mateo was visibly rattled, his pride bruised. โIโm locking myself in the lab tomorrow. I will make something better.โ
But Stone brought them back to the point. โNowโs not the time. Whatโs the plan?โ
This place was clearly compromised. Even Stone felt uncomfortable staying there now.
โWeโll move to Garden Compound,โ Johnathan decided.
It was one of his other properties, famous for its securityโone of the best in Capital City.
Stone and Mateo personally escorted Johnathan and Sierra there. After a full sweep and clearing of the premises, they left the two alone.
Before departing, Stone promised to start tracing the intrusion. But everyone knew the odds of finding anything were slim.
The place was new to Sierra. It was spacious, and she only tidied up the master bedroom. For now, it was enough to rest.
โScared?โ Johnathan asked.
He had dealt with things like this beforeโbut this was Sierraโs first time.
Sierra shook her head. โNot scaredโฆ just tense.โ
โWas it someone from the group behind Quinn?โ
โMost likely,โ Johnathan said.
Theyโd clearly been targeted since Quinn had come into the picture.
โIf nothing comes from the symposium, Iโll go visit Quinn myself.โ
โBut her conditionโโ
โShe may not be able to give us anything,โ Sierra said. Quinn had spiraled into madness. She was under heavy watch. Medical experts were attempting to repair her nervous systemโbut with todayโs technology, that was basically impossible.
โI need to see her with my own eyes,โ Johnathan said.
He wasnโt convinced yet. Quinn had always been good at pretending. This could be another trick.
Just as they were preparing to settle down for the night, Johnathanโs phone rang. It was Wayne.
The moment the call connected, his grandfatherโs voice came through, low and sharp. โWas the intrusion meant for youโor for the person beside you?โ
Johnathan wasnโt surprised heโd heard about it so fast. Wayne had been busy these daysโdigging up everything he could. And the more he found, the angrier he got.
Johnathan wasnโt just anyone. He was the Wynn familyโs eldest grandson, the next in line for the patriarchal seat. And yetโsomeone dared target him?
Wayne hadnโt just been sitting idle. Heโd been running parallel investigations into the same organization. Thatโs why the authorities had given Quinnโs case so much attentionโit had become a full-scale priority.
But so far, nothing solid had surfaced. The organization was slippery, cautious. Every time a lead popped up, it vanished almost immediately. They rotated personnel, switched identities, erased trails. Impossible to trace.
The scale and sophistication suggested deep financial backing. And that raised red flags all the way to the top.
What little they had exposed so far only hinted at drug research. But if that was what they let be discoveredโwhat else were they hiding?
This was no longer just about Johnathan or Sierra. This was a national concern.
So when Wayne got the news that someone had broken into Johnathanโs home, he called immediately.
โCome stay at the ancestral estate.โ
His tone left no room for negotiation.
The Wynn familyโs old estate had top-tier securityโon par with classified government facilities. Possibly even safer.
Wayne knew how stubborn his grandson could be. After a brief pause, he added-
โBring her with you.โ
