Chapter 437 The Price of Obsession
โWhy did you use that drug on him?โ Quinn pressed him.
โWhat choice did I have?โ The man let out a cold snort. โIf he were easier to control, I wouldnโt have used it. But that was the only drug we had that could actually keep someone in check.โ
โBut you knew there was no cure for it.โ Quinn couldnโt help but yell.
โOf course, I knew. Wasnโt I counting on him or Sierra to figure one out? What a shame.โ There was a trace of regret in the manโs voice.
โThatโs enough. Timeโs running out. You should get going. We still need you,โ the man spoke lightly.
โLeave? No, Iโm not going anywhere!โ Quinnโs face was blank. โHeโs dead. Whatโs the point of anything Iโve done?โ
Hearing that, the manโs tone shifted. โThinking of quitting now? Isnโt it a little too late for that?โ
Quinn didnโt feel the least bit threatened. She let out a cold laugh. โYou should know why I joined you in the first place. All these years, itโs only ever been for him. Heโs gone now. Whatโs the point of any of it?โ
At her words, the man chuckled strangely. โYou were so devoted. Did he even know? He didnโt. In fact, he hated you and avoided you like the plague. You barely showed him a little affection, and he rushed to draw the line. Donโt forget how pathetically you begged me back then to let you join the organization.โ
His words tore open parts of Quinnโs memory she never wanted to revisit.
She had always known exactly what she wanted. From the moment she met Wendy, she knew her chance had come. She had to get out of the orphanage.
And she did it. Back then, she had been satisfiedโgenuinely grateful to Wendy.
The first time she saw Johnathan, all she could think was how beautiful he was, like a little prince.
Johnathan had treated her well too, but not well enough. She wanted him to care only about her. But back then, Johnathan cared about too many people.
After Wendyโs death, her chance came again.
Johnathan changed completely. No one could get close to himโexcept her. She stayed by his side. Eventually, she became someone special to him.
