Chapter 448 Unwelcome Returns
Sierra used to think Chase was a scumbag and Susie was a homewrecker who stole someoneโs husband. But the more time she spent around them, the more she began to doubt if that was really true.
Chase and Susie seemed genuinely affectionate toward each other, and they were both fairly decent people. Aside from being a little arrogant, Chase didnโt seem to have any serious flaws.
She didnโt think they were the type to team up and hurt Johnathanโs mother.
You canโt fake sincerity. When Johnathan was in trouble, the worry in Chase and Susieโs eyes had been realโespecially Susie, who had even gone so far as to send her own son away to protect Johnathan.
Why? She couldnโt understand it.
As she was lost in thought, Johnathan walked over. He looked composed.
โCome on, letโs head back.โ
He took her hand and noticed right away that it was ice cold.
He quickly led her out of the cemetery and over to the management office.
This was the Wynn familyโs private cemetery, and the people running it were also part of the Wynn family.
When they saw Johnathan walk in, the person in charge immediately said, โWe really didnโt see anyone suspicious.โ
Theyโd reviewed the surveillance footage multiple times and hadnโt spotted anything unusual.
Johnathan said, โSend me a copy of the footage.โ
He didnโt stay long and left with Sierra.
Not long after they drove off, a car pulled out from a corner of the cemetery.
The driver spoke first. โSir, everythingโs been handled. They wonโt find anything.โ
โMm.โ
The man called Sir nodded. โHave you confirmed it? He really is a Wynn?โ
โWeโre still checking, but it seems so.โ
After all, the Wynn family wouldnโt let an outsider inherit the family estate.
The man said nothing more.
Back at home, Johnathan finished unpacking and sent the surveillance video to Mateo to see if it had been tampered with.
After being gone for a month, both of them were busy. The next day, they returned to their routinesโJohnathan went to the office, and Sierra went back to school.
When Autumn saw her, she froze for a second before lighting up.
โYouโre back? How was it? How was the honeymoon? Whereโd you go?โ
Sierra smiled and shared the fun things sheโd experienced during the trip. She also handed out souvenirs sheโd picked up along the way.
They were chatting happily when Professor Martin arrivedโwith someone.
โLet me introduce you,โ he said. โThis is White, one of the investors and partners for our new project. Heโll be joining us in the research.โ
White?
Sierra knew that name far too well. The impression he left on her had been deep. She never expected their paths to cross again.
And with that came a flicker of suspicion.
After the introductions, White came over to Sierra and Autumn enthusiastically.
โHey, fancy seeing you again.โ
Autumn seemed to recognize him too and stole a few glances in his direction.
Sierra frowned. โWhy are you joining this project?โ
โFor you, of course.โ
White was completely honest. โWe needed someone to lead this research. You were the first person who came to mind.โ
โYour skills are solid. Weโre confident leaving this project in your hands.โ
His directness actually made Sierra a little embarrassed. Maybe it was because too much had happened lately, but she found herself getting a bit paranoid.
White snorted lightly. โI told youโweโre meant to work together.โ
He sounded more like he was trying to pick a fight with Johnathan.
Sierra felt helpless. This guyโs personality really wasโฆ
That night, she told Johnathan about White. His face immediately darkened.
โIโll invest in the project and have them transfer him to another team. You donโt need to get involved with this mess.โ
Johnathan was clearly annoyed. He hadnโt found any concrete dirt on Whiteโit was just that he simply didnโt like him.
And on top of that, White came from a powerful background, which made things even trickier.
That guy had come just to stir things up for him.
Sierra spent a long time trying to calm him down before Johnathan finally let it goโbut he still decided to give White some โworkโ to keep him busy.
The first person he thought of was Mateo.
As expected, the moment Mateo heard Whiteโs name, he blew up.
โDonโt worry, Johnathan. Leave it to me. Iโll make sure he doesnโt have a single free second to run around playing researcher,โ Mateo said confidently.
Lately, heโd been anything but idleโheโd already upgraded several generations of his equipment. No way was he going to lose to White.
After hanging up with Mateo, Johnathan made another callโthis time to Maddoxโto ask about Whiteโs recent movements.
What he learned was that White and Greg from Southpoint Biologies had been making big moves lately. Supposedly, theyโd already locked in several new project directions.
