Chapter 453 Buried Truths
Johnathan could hear footsteps and the rustle of luggage through the phone. He quickly said, โIโm fine. I just wanted to hear your voice.โ
Sierra didnโt argue. She simply replied, โI booked the earliest flight I could. Iโm coming to you.โ
That broke Johnathanโs composure. โYou really donโt need to!โ
As much as he wanted to see her, he couldnโt feel at ease letting her travel aloneโespecially with the lingering threat of that organization.
โI just found out some things,โ he said quietly. โIโm feeling a little overwhelmed.โ
His voice had steadied somewhat, and that gave Sierra space to ask gently, โDo you want to talk about it?โ
โSierraโฆ I might not be my motherโs child.โ
Johnathanโs words came slowly, heavily.
Sierra sucked in a sharp breath. No wonder he was acting so out of character.
She knew what Wendy had meant to him. After her death, his entire existence had been fueled by vengeance.
His life had revolved around one thingโavenging his mother.
And nowโฆ someone was telling him she might not have been his real mother? Then what had his life meant all these years?
If he wasnโt Wendyโs childโฆ then who was his real mother?
A shadow flitted through Sierraโs mind. It was the same one Johnathan had thought of.
Pain struck her heart like a hammer. It hurtโdeeply.
She felt an ache not just for him, but for everything heโd gone through.
If her hunch was correct, then Johnathan had spent his whole life as someone elseโs joke.
How could anyone be so cruel?
She couldnโt take it anymore. She had to go to him.
He needed to knowโhe still had her.
โWait for me,โ she told him softly.
Then she hung up.
Johnathan sat frozen for a moment, torn between gratitude and fear.
He couldnโt let her come alone, not with those threats still out there.
Ignoring the late hour, he called Chenzhou immediately.
โMake sure sheโs protected,โ Johnathan instructed. โEscort her every step of the way.โ
โDonโt worry. Iโll have people on her the whole time. Nothing will happen.โ
โGood.โ
Johnathan checked the earliest incoming flightโit would land around ten in the morning.
At dawn, he knocked on Chandlerโs door and asked to borrow the car.
Still rattled from the night before, Chandler didnโt question him and handed over the keys right away.
Once Johnathan left, Chandler went to Silasโs room.
โDadโฆ I think we canโt hide it anymore.โ
The commotion from last night had woken Silas hours ago, but he hadnโt gone out to face Johnathan.
Hearing his sonโs words, he sighed.
โThen donโt hide it. Tell him what we can.โ
That was Chandlerโs plan, too. Theyโd moved out here hoping to stay out of sightโfor Johnathanโs sake.
They did love him. They did care.
But some truths were just too hard to speak.
Sierra, despite a sleepless night, didnโt feel tired at all. As soon as she stepped off the plane, she was ready to go find Johnathan.
To her surprise, he was already waiting at the airport.
Her eyes lit up the moment she saw him. She ran toward him.
It had only been a day, but it felt like ages.
He took her to grab a bite first, then they began the long drive to the town.
It would take more than two hours to get there. During that time, Johnathan told her what had happened the night before.
When she heard that his grandfather and uncle had moved away years ago and never once thought to tell himโฆ her heart ached.
She didnโt say anything. She just reached over and placed her hand over his.
When they arrived, Chandler seemed calmer than the day before. Almost at peace.
Maybe heโd made a decision.
He wasnโt surprised to see Sierra with Johnathan. In fact, he said, โYou must be Sierra.โ
Johnathan raised a brow. Heโd never mentioned her to Chandlerโhow did he know?
What he didnโt realize was that even from afar, they had never truly stopped paying attention to his life.
โCome in and eat something,โ Chandler offered.
โNo.โ
Johnathan looked at him, then at Silas, who had stayed quiet like a shadow in the corner. His voice was firm.
โTell me what youโve been hiding. Once I know, Iโll leave.โ
