Chapter 15

In the ward, the story left the other patients gasping in disbelief. What kind of jerk was Christopher? He teamed up with his ex-wife to bully his current wife. If they weren’t in a law-abiding society, he might have killed Melody by now.

“I saw with my own eyes that you moved toward her with a knife,” Christopher said.

“Oh, was she hurt?” Melody retorted.

Christopher was instantly speechless. Cynthia’s wound was smaller than a nail scratch; it didn’t even need a Band-Aid.

“You said I was making things up, but I think you’re far better at manipulating the truth,” Melody said sarcastically, noticing his silence. “And you’re asking if I went home last night? Do you really want me to catch you in bed with that woman? You really are acting so confident while cheating on me.”

Christopher’s body stiffened. He quickly denied, “I’m not!”

“Then, did a dog leave the marks on your neck?” Melody mocked.

Christopher immediately reached for his neck, used his phone camera to check, and hoisted his collar. There was indeed a hickey on the side of his neck.

“Let me explain. This isn’t…” Christopher stammered in panic, but Melody cut him off.

“There’s nothing to explain. You’re disturbing the other patients,” she said.

Christopher didn’t want to leave. He tried to explain, but Melody, with an indifferent gaze, placed her hand on the call button. “If you’re thinking of resorting to violence, I’ll press this and see you in court.”

Christopher opened his mouth to deny being abusive, but the injuries on Melody’s back were clear evidence of his “crimes.”

“Let’s leave, Mr. Fuller. You’ve got a meeting to attend,” Sheldon said gently. He had been waiting anxiously outside the ward, overhearing the argument. He cautiously entered, trying to pull Christopher away. Considering Christopher’s earlier rage in the ward and his punching of the car seat, Sheldon genuinely worried he might turn violent.

“Let go of me!” Christopher broke free from Sheldon’s grasp and glared at Melody with clenched fists. He was like an enraged bull. He wanted to explain that nothing much had happened between him and Cynthia, but Melody’s indifferent expression only fueled his anger and frustration.

Sheldon finally managed to drag Christopher out of the ward. In the hallway, Christopher could no longer contain his rage. He slammed his fist into the wall, making a dull thud. Sheldon gulped anxiously, thinking he’d luckily gotten him out of there. If that punch had landed on Melody, her life would have been over.
